"Elaborate bro, gif and memes aint gonna cut it. #Anti-spam."

Amusing. Considering what followed after that.

Listen, most of the posters either stated their opinion with more words than this discussion seems worth or used a gif which is at least somewhat entertaining.

While you don´t even bother making full sentences. If it is important to you to have a discussion you have to participate in it.

Top kek.

Bioware has made it clear with Inquisition that their cutting back on cinematics cutscenes in favour of more content so lol nope.

DA:I was also an abysmal failure, which fell rather flat on its face after its initial launch. So yeah.. Besides Dragon Age and Mass Effect are being created by two different teams, with different goals and design philospophies.

Your welcome.

How very predictable. I guess I shouldn't keep my hopes up and wait for something original around here. Ah, well.

This thread made me facepalm......... we need better trolls.

It's interesting that troll threads can sometimes, perhaps unintentionally, spark pretty decent discussions. On the other hand, is this all some posters do on the MEA forum nowadays? Because whenever I visit, every other thread seems to be a troll. It's getting rather repetitive. Kind of makes me glad I don't hang around too often. Might catch whatever those people have.

Behave yourself. No need to become the dramaqueen.

Back your opinion up with facts, otherwise it´s just an opinion.

Over 50 GOTY awards (that are even remotely worth mentioning) are given out every year. But the actual number of GOTYs given out every year is well above 1000, since EVERY single publication can make a list (and they do), in which they name the "best" game of the year. And if you get ONE of them, you can slap that sticker on your game.

If there was a single respected organization, which gave out a single award for the best game every year (like the academy awards for movies), then GOTY awards could have some prestige. But there isn't, hence GOTY awards are worthless, since they are an over-abundance of them.

And how does this make DAI a failure?

Numbers and list of sources please.

Because it failed miserably in outselling its competitors, and it did so to such a degree that, despite being "BioWares most succesful launch", EA still refuses to release actual sales numbers.

BioWare's biggest strength has always been in their stories, characters and lore, though. And I dare say they know it very well. (David Gaider said himself that what he thought BW could do best were characters.) Shooting is nice but it wouldn't be a BioWare game if it didn't have something else going on. Multiplayer wasn't even part of BW games until recently. At least not in the traditional sense. In Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, you could join or open a server to play the official campaign and other modules. It's not what the games became famous for, however. It's not what made BW famous. And I don't think I would be half as obsessed with BW games if they didn't put all that emphasis on world-building, story and characters, either. I have other games that serve well when I just want to spend my time shooting space zombies and the like. But I expect more from BioWare.

Moreover, games are an art form and it's up to their makers what they want to make them into. They can focus on different things. Games can consist of different things. Like making the stories good. Saying games aren't about stories is throwing all the games with great stories that we've already had out of the airlock. I think that BioWare offers something not every company does and that's exactly what makes their games unique, fresh and fun to play. Take away the stories, characters, the colourful worlds and you have yet another generic shooter/dungeon crawler. I can pick among dozens of such titles already.

Couldn't have put it better myself I agree 100%

Dragon Age is not even on the list. While other games also released in the same month, and the "main competitor" Skyrim are.

Thank you for the source.

I still don´t understand how not being on the list of the best selling game of all time equals failure.

RPGs are a comparably small niche and one of the most sucessfull games in this field is Skyrim, you will hear no disagreement from me on this.

But Skyrim is the only RPG on that list.

The other games listed are mostly shooters, casual games like sims/wii and the neverdying Super Mario.

Because one of the goals of DA:I was to be a competitor to Skyrim, but it failed at that.

I think they wanted a piece of Skyrim´s cake, which is it´s costumers. Us.

They got that. A piece, but not the cake.

They made a mistake in my opinion, which is Frostbite. They could have made Inquisition immortal if they allowed mods.

A lot of exploration in Skyrim is fairly illusory, exploration means you genuinely aren't sure of where to go and have to rely on specific cues to progress. If you did that in Skyrim you would end actually never getting to the next town or quest marker because the world is too big and there aren't any real cues as to what's what.

Dungeons with the exception of the Black... something..? The underground mushroom one, are also fairly linear and procedural.

Consequently you end up having to rely a lot on the world map or horse fast travel to get where you need to go and you end up with a fairly instanced procedural impression paradoxically.

Heck even with quest markers some things were pretty hard to find, like some quest on top of a snowy mountain with a necromancer or something... the only logical path was south but that was a giant hill so you had to go around or something weird.

BioWare games need "less story" as much as Sera needs less sense and Solas needs less hair.

P.S. BioWare, it was only Tresspasser, with its improved storytelling, that compelled me to complete DA:I and buy the Descent and Hakkon DLCs.

If you hadn't returned to what you do best -- i.e. telling a good story -- you would have gotten a lot less money from me.

Because exploration in its self is a story.

No it's not. It's exploration involving a series of events the player experiences. That's not a cogent narrative.
