Bugs in Origins?

One of the problems with playing a five-year old game (albeit a classic like Origins) is not knowing how dated the information you find on the internet is with respect to that game.

I've made Wynne an arcane warrior and was thinking that the Effort armor set with it's "plus 10% to healing effects" would make sense for an arcane warrior.  However, while looking up info on the Dragon Age Wiki, I came across an article that said that, because of a bug in the program, all equipment with the healing characteristics wouldn't work with respect to healing benefits.  I noticed in the article -- which covered all bugs not just this one -- that some of the info was aimed specifically at the Xbox 360 version while other info wasn't clearly marked as referring to any particular version.  None of the info was aimed specifically at the PC version which is what I got (the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition to be precise).

So, does anyone know if this bug applies to all PC versions of Origins?  Was a patch ever put out?

Regarding the Dragon Age Wiki, is that maintained by people from Bioware or just interested gamers?

Thanks in advance.  I know this is a question that was probably answered long ago.

The bug is present on PC as of the 4th patch, and it wasn't fixed officially. But there is a mod that fixes this and many other errors: http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/1601/?, it is highly recommended to have this installed.

As for the DA wiki, it is maintained by fans, who research the game lore and mechanincs thoroughly in order to provide accurate information. It works like the normal Wikipedia, which anyone can edit.

Are there bugs in Origins?  Oh yes, a LOT of them.  My personal favorite for correcting bugs is: http://social.biowar...m/project/2563/

Thanks!  I'm giving the ones from social bioware a try.  Too  many disclaimers for the ones from nexus.  From my brief time playing with mods, I'm surprised how many things on origins have been addressed by independent modders and not by bioware itself.  Has the same held true for DA Inquisition?  Or is it's engine too difficult to work with?

For DA2 and Inquisition, no toolset was released.  Both have people who can do some modding (I applaud there ability!), but nowhere near the amount of mods that DAO has.

That's a pity.  Many of the mods show a great deal of creativity!  (Not to mention all the more mundane mods that correct bugs Bioware failed to correct.)

That file is from 2010.

Are we sure those haven't been fixed by Bioware since then?

Also, that nexusmod fix is from 2010 as well.

I'd prefer a definintive answer over what official 1.05 has fixed, and what is left, before I get any of those. I don't want to "fix" something that's possibly ALREADY fixed and risk breaking it again.

Patch 1.05 did not address ANY gameplay bugs, at all, just a DLC authentication issue and and something to do with DirectX and lag.

The last gameplay bugfixes from Bioware were in patch 1.04, which was released in the summer of 2010.

I play DAO/UE patched to  1.05 and still have to use the BSN bugfix.  And there are still bugs that aren't fixed by those.  There are a number of mods on Nexus that fix dialogue

Thank you both. Does the BSN file fix item modifiers that never worked? i.e., +to healing

Taki & MerAnne, I installed the mod fix files you recommended and now I have some odd problems with mages.  Sometimes it's just black hands.  Other times their mage gowns will go from normal colors to all black.  So far, this seems to be for NPC mages only; Morrigan seems unaffected.  (I haven't picked up Wynne yet.)

Also, I have the problem that when my rogue warden goes invisible, only her weapon gets that fuzzy shading.  The body of the warden is unaffected.

Is there a part of these mod packages I need to delete?

(One other odd post-mod occurrence; in Denerim, I accepted the quest to clear thugs from all the dirty back alleys.  On the very last alley, I ran into a gang led by a woman who kind of looked like Ser Cauthrien.  After the fight was over, I noticed that her dead body was naked but for her boots!  Both kinky and disturbing....)

It definitely isn't caused by Qwinn's (BSN mod)

Some of what you're seeing could be caused by Dragon Age Rules Fixpack - it has an autoloot (dead body naked but for her boots) but the issue with mages it not something that I've ever seen from Qwinn's and (after reading the description) doesn't look like it comes from the Rules Fixpack either.  Invisible/black it typically a mod that does something with textures

Yeah, I didn't like autoloot any way and deleted it.  The only mod I have currently installed is the "Natural Bodies" mod.  That seems to be working well without any unintended consequences.  Perhaps my problem is caused by the combination of two or mods which work well when installed alone but wreak havoc when installed separately?  The weirdest thing about that problem is that it focuses solely on mages.  If I don't find a way to correct this problem, doing the Broken Circle quest will become really funky!

Qwinn's doesn't impact textures and Dragon Age Rules Fixpack doesn't appear to impact textures.  Natural Bodies DOES modify textures.

I know where I would guess the issue is.

The Fixpack is the last thing I added and I first noticed the problem afterwards.  That said, if the problem persists, I'll have to experiment, removing the mods one at a time -- perhaps starting with Natural Bodies.  I also read about similar problems at an EA website where Video card issues and DirectX came up.  My situation is unique in that it focuses on such a narrow group of characters.

Did you loot the girl before she was naked? Dead enemies have a chance for their equipped items to be lootable - after you loot them, they disappear from the model. So if you looted her chest armour that'd explain the nakedness. And then it wouldn't be a bug.

As for the original question, yes there are a ton of bugs. I use about 5 different fixpacks, plus several fixes I made myself.

Generally, you loot a body and it disappears.  Once, I went with Leliana to kill Marjolen.  After looting her, I noticed "noble clothes" in the inventory but there was no moment when Marjolen lay naked.  At the time when I saw the naked thug girl, I had the autoloot on from the one fix pack, so I assume that was the cause of it.  I removed the autoloot and haven't seen that happen again.

You mention 5 different fix packs.  Do you remember which ones they are?  The one fix pack that corrected some of Shale's powers changed her from a so so warrior to a monster secret weapon.  I can't help but wonder how many powers which I've written off as weak are simply in need of a fix.

Just looking through my override folder, here's the fixes/cut content... you should be able to find these on the dragon age nexus

Awakening Plus (only use the fixes and a couple of quality of life mods)

Detailed tooltips (more quality of life than a fixpack)

Dog Find Item Fix

Dual Striking Fix (though this takes DS from bad to too strong)

GT Core Rules Fixpack (this is the biggest, though I don't use all, and I've made some tweaks)

Jowans Intention

Law & Order Fix

Morrigan Restoration Patch

Shaperate Reward Fix

Unobtainable Item Fix

Vigilance Starfang Fix

ZDF (Zevran dialogue fix)

As for self-made, I have fixes in for Arrow of Slaying, Chain Lightning, Cone of Cold, Dual Weapon Expert, DW Sweep, Lacerate, Scattershot, Weapon+shield offensive talents, the attack speed cap, mage's chest key (for return to ostagar), and qunari base attributes. And some borderline bugs, and aesthetic and quality of life changes.

Several of those are available in other fixpacks but I prefer my own implementation - for others there aren't any comparable fixes online that I know of. I can upload some if you want me to.

EDIT: Quinn's fixpack was never updated after the 1.04 patch, it has some issues now and IMO it's more trouble that it's worth. Others still use it though.

Thanks for the rundown on the various fixpacks/restored content mods!  After seeing what a difference a fixpack made to Shale's "Rock Barrage" power, I'm definitely interested in all mods that help the game live up to its full potential!  If it's no trouble, I'd like to try your fixes as well.

BTW, does anyone know which mod slightly messed up "stealth mode" for rogues?  When I activate the power, my rogue becomes "invisible" as before, but after a few seconds, her body reappears though the weapons remain invisible and apparently she's still invisible to the enemy.  Anything to fix the fix?

That sounds like the VFX remover from the dragon age rules fixpack. If you just delete the subfolder it'll go away

Hi guys :)

I am downloading the fix-pack now. I have so many mods installed, I'll have to make sure none of them conflict. :)

... of course, immediately after I make my stuff public I notice a bug. DWE fix was stopping enemies from surrendering near death (.e.g bandits at lothering) - anyone using that might want to re-download.

A question for the mod experts, would mods get in the way of personal quests?  Romances?  I'm trying to romance Leliana and harden Alistair but haven't gotten anywhere even though I'm at 100% approval with both of them and have already gathered 3 of the 4 allies prior to the Landsmeet.  (I've saved the Redcliffe/Arl Eamon quest for last.)  Earlier in this run through, my philandering city elf rogue was in a romance with Morrigan while sweet-talking Leliana.  I forgot to add the polygamy mod and Leliana ultimately confronted my warden and gave her an ultimatum.  My warden agreed to break up with Morrigan (a rather sad break-up scene) and then...nothing.  I had had the romantic conversations with Leliana stating we were an item, but the Marjolane subplot refuses to trigger.

As to Alistair, the Goldana subplot fails to trigger for him.

As to other personal quests, I found Flemeth's grimoire in the Tower and that triggered Morrigan's personal quest.  Wynne was the last character to be recruited and her story is moving along.  Oghren's personal story completed as expected.  (Any personal story for Sten?)
