Not sure what a D3 Witch Doctor is, but for me the Necromancer was a lot of fun. Completed my Nightmare playthrough with that class.

 

Some of your party members also comment on it.

Supposedly all the classes have party dialogue, but I'll take it.

Witch Doctor replaced the traditional Necromancer in Diablo 3.

Depends. Here are the basics:

-mid range combat / DPS mage, prefers mobility/ positioning to flat out tanking (unlike ke) or overwhelming cc (rift).
-walking bomb and static cage = lots of exploding corpses, enemies. Maybe you like it that way? Though I have to admit if animations in dai were more realistic gory this would be a bigger selling point. Ps: You can also explode dragons.
-has potential to become immortal through clever use of simulacrum and heal on hit masterwork effects especially in a full party setup where getting the timing down is less of an issue than when soloing.
-damager. Has possibility through clever crafting and casting mechanics to deal most damage of any mage in a short time burst and almost as much as a rogue+ better aoe.

My two best builds for it:

Here take ice mine instead of mind blast generally this was just a vs fire dragon setup.

Kill Highland Ravager in under 90 seconds!
