You know what I'd love to see in DA4 that'd be a REAL quandary?

Tranquility without the downside.  Someone figures out how to take away someone's magical ability without otherwise harming them.  Then just think for a second how badly this would screw with things, particularly in the Tevinter Imperium with the Qunari attacking.

Think.  Really think about it.

Seems like less of a quandary than Tranquility as it is.

Yeah, it SEEMS like it . . . except who would have any qualms about inflicting this on anyone by force?  It doesn't hurt them, after all.  And what happens if X group goes all pacifist and gets rid of their mages but Y group keeps theirs?  Tevinter needs its mages to fight the Qunari--but they're also tyrants.  And mages are the primary source of healing in the game.  Get rid of your mages and you're left with the "science" of people who believe that health is governed by "humors".   Yeah, getting rid of the mages sounds great . . . until the Black Plague shows up and offs 85% of your population in DAYS.

REALLY think about it.

Or smallpox because that is decimated the population and armies of the roman empire in the third and fourth centuries which was a major factor in the fall of the western half of the empire much as the black death aka Justinian plague killed any attempts of the empire recovering the western half and insured that the empire couldn't keep the Arabs from overrunning much of the empire. Mages and Tevinter fighting will is the only reason the Qunari haven't enslaved all of Thadas to the Qun.

Either people who don't matter (superstitious commoners), or the type who are already fine with inflicting Tranquility as it is.

I agree with mages having a greater role in society, particularly healthcare, but they're not a magic bullet. They couldn't do anything about the Hundred Days Cough that swept through Orlais, nor could Vivienne do anything to save Bastien.

As for Tranquility, unless (non-criminal) mages want their magic taken away it shouldn't be done, simple as that.
