Inquisition is not just the best product BioWare has ever produced but it is my favorite game in my roughly 18 year video game 'career' that I have ever played.  It has a really solid foundation to build upon for future games and now that they have worked out their kinks, take fan feedback into consideration, and fully utilize the tech available I think this franchise has nowhere to go but up.  Which is kinda scary.  Open World or more linear (like Trespasser) I believe BioWare can pull it off.  And give us less repetition in the quests.

Well you better enjoy it now because given the criticism of DAI, I doubt DA4 will be a copy & paste of DAI. Expect changes.

I'd even go with the Villains.  The Archdemon/ Darkspawn are one of the most boring video game monstrosities ever created  .  Which I find it hillarious that they had to go out of there way to overcompensate to actually make them threatening in future titles.  And Loghain was little more then a boring mustache twirling villain.

I kind of like the Archdemon. It doesn't make for a thrilling conversation and lacks that obligatory masterplan speech but when it urges the horde on in the deep roads I always get goosebuds (?). Loghain is more akin to that swordtwirler in Raiders of the lost ark.

I would say for Origins what it did bette then Inquisition was the general quality of the side quests, and how those side quests often integrated in and supported the main themes/ plot of the over all work.  This is someting DA 4 needs to look at.  Other then that, I pretty much agree Inquisition did everything better.

There are ups and downs when it comes to sidequests but stories like the Fallow mire and Crestwood are just gold. Origins got its fair share of generic fetching as well.

As a member of this toxic forum community that does not think DAI is the best BioWare game to date, my opinion does not matter because of a bunch of GOTY awards.

I second that.

And after all, I don't care about awards. As long as BW is able to keep me satisfied (which is hard enough).

Best game - not at all.
Bad game - not at all.
Raising my hatred of bears - absolutely.

I reached the edge of the map in TW3 many times. Either Geralt or words on the screen will warn you. With DAI we have the little world map exit arches. I think that's what confused me about TW3.

Well, this is only my perspective so far since I'm in Velen, but it looks like the map is the same zone for Velen and Novigrad, so we can walk from the barons place all the way to the city. And granted, it looks like there are only three or four main map zones compared to the ten or so in DAI. But I think DAI could have cut down on some zones and focused on tightening the remaining ones. And DAI's zones are much more distinct and beautiful than TW3, for sure, but I don't mind graphics too much.

Of course.  Again I argue, often, that DA I will be a foundation for four.  The foundation is not the house though.  And BioWare has proven, either open world, quasi open world, or more linear, they can successfully adapt and tell a good story.

Wait till you get to Skellige.

Rather then, bar Florianne, I felt probably more of a connection with them then I did with Loghain. I found Corypheus far more interesting philosophically then Loghain. Which is saying something given his releative lack of screen time.

Hmm yeah I'll have to see what Skellige is like then.

I did like Corypheus as a concept but think he was mishandled. Lost potential and all that. I think part of my issue with Loghain is that a lot of his characterization happens in one of the novels, which shouldn't be the case. Similar to WEWH relying on TME to characterize the contenders

Saying we should expect changes from one BioWare game to another is like saying we should expect the sun to go down tomorrow.

Yes I noticed that too. You can go to and from places in TW3 without a map (I'm in Velen too right now), but in DAI it felt I guess misplaced or like a scattered puzzle with places that were meant to connect but never really did.

I do wish the changing weather was in DAI and not just in certain locations. I loved that about TW3. I also liked the clock, but for DA I'm not sure if it would work.

True, but whether you believe it or not, there is a faction of people here who have this belief that because of the "success" of DAI and it's numerous awards and what not, that Bioware will go the "if it aint broke don't fix it" route and make DA4 a shinier version of DAI. What I said is just a reminder that Bioware does not work like that. Whether DAI was a success or failure, there will ALWAYS be changes.

Changing weather made the world of the Witcher feel alive, it was so neat being in the middle of nowhere and then woooooshhhh darkness, rain, thunder, blowing trees.  I could just hear the party commenting on those changes.

(Disgusted noise)  Another storm!

(sigh) Well, lets hope this one does not reach over my head.

I like storms.  Roaring.  Blowing.  Full of energy.  The Energy of...life.

Yeah I loved the DAI banter in the locations where it changed, but to have it randomly change would make it a lot of fun! I remember Cass was cold in the snow, Dorian was seasick in the Storm Coast and Varric was disgusted by the bog, but it was strictly location based. I loved how some mornings in TW3 were stormy and then we'd get rain later that day, and sometimes the wind would start to really blow. Add that to DA and it would really make it even better!

I get Movran (and Skywatcher) but what do you like about Widris? All that I remember is he is the one who put the poison formula in those veil runes...

Skywatcher is the best especially if you send him to the Hold in JOH lol I love that War Table mission!

Also I only just started reading the codex in the Mire and omg... the cause of that plague was so tragic!

Then they haven't been paying attention to any previous BioWare games. For better or for worse, there are always changes.

I do believe, because of Inquisition's critical and commercial success over DA2, that they'll improve on what's there instead of drastically overhauling anything. They'll bring back the cinematic camera for most sidequest conversations, deepen the dialogue wheels involved with those conversations, and cut back on some on the exploration-heavy material. I'd call that a "shinier version of DAI", though, which was a marked improvement over DA2 in most aspects.

Absolutely. If anything, BioWare's notorious for overcompensation in terms of critiques instead of not making changes.

Yeah the backstory to the plague was interesting and tragic. It was hard for me to follow, though, because only about half of the notes were recorded to the codex, and they were spaced far apart in the map, and not chronologically. I would have preferred if all notes related to the plague were kept in one journal entry so that once I had them all I could review them and make sense of how things happened.

As it is, I would go to that circle of stones where some people fled, and think "oh yeah I think I read a note about people coming here in some other part of the map" but I couldn't remember more than that.

Regarding Widris...its just that I interact with people like her professionally ;-) I would have liked to help her in a better way than we do as Inquisitors though. But hey, what can you do.

Yesterday I sent Skywatcher to Stone-bear hold. Lovely =) And the plague...Yes all in all I am a fallow mire fetishist =D

They were using Deathroot to cure the plague instead of Elfroot if I read it right.

Hasn't Bioware said that they will be using the Frostbite engine going forward? Part of the development cycle for DAI was getting used to this engine and shifting the visuals from the previous games into this engine. So hopefully they won't have to focus so much time on this and can now improve performance. Ideally, this would mean they can focus more on narrative and less on mechanics.

And to add to that, we find a journal about the boy dying from it and they suggest locking him in his home to stop the spreading. We actually enter that home. That was the one blocked by boxes. That's what I loved about DAI too. You may not see it, but when you combine the atmosphere with the codex, you get a real feel for what's going on around you.

The blatant Skyrim copying, the running in the opposite direction of DA 2, sanitizing the game world...

Good game, great game, but the weakest of the three Dragon Ages.

The success of the Witcher 3 should at least ensure that the tone of DAO and DA2 returns in the next installment.
