Companion Flirting. Why does the PC always have to be one to initiate a Romance?

Well if you accept obsession is part of Liara's character, which is made clear from everything about her and the Shadow Broker, this makes sense.

Its beyond obsession. She has some head problems. Taking Shepard's armor, putting it in a glass case and display it like its some kind of trophy. I would enjoy hearing an explanation from her if Shepard were given the opportunity to ask her about that.

I would also like to hear an explanation of why Hackett gave the dogtags to the alien instead of to Shepard's mother, for those who played as a spacer.

While it is annoying as a player, all of that makes sense for Liara's character and I'm ok with them sticking to it.

I'm not ok with it. Why can't my Shepard say anything about it especailly after telling the asari I would throw her back in the volcano?

While Bioware did show favoritism toward Liara, also remember that she is the only character guaranteed to still be there at the Hammer FOB near the end of ME3.

And that means what?

The problem with Anders, I feel, is two-fold. He's a downer of a character and the player is saddled with dialogue options that have no happy medium between rejection and friendly banter.

If it was someone like, say, Dorian who came on to my M!Hawke, then I wouldn't have minded at all, because I think he's fun.

That and it was immediately after him killing his friend. Just came off as weird timing. That and the only apparent options as far as the player knew was to either initiate romance or end any possibility of romance.

Sadly legitimate criticism of this cutscene was lost in the whining about eww anders hit on me.

"Hey Commander Not!Shepard."
"Greetings Captain Shxz t'zil. It is good to see you once more."
"I know I have only just met you.."
"Yes?"
"And this may seem a little crazy.."
"Er.."
"But here's my omni number, so.. call me maybe?"

Well in that one case, maybe Shepard is just too uncomfortably shocked to do anything lol.  Also, remember that Shepard is not your Shepard in the same way that the Warden was your Warden. Shepard is more defined by the devs.

It means she will get the most attention because players are guaranteed to see the content. The fact that any of the ME2 companions could die is why they were shoved to the side, with the exceptions of Garrus and Tali, and even they had story replacements.

Yeah the timing was the big one for me. I don't think the legitimate criticism was lost as much as the "eww anders hit on me" was an excuse for the people who loved the scene to lump all criticism together and call people who didn't like it homophobes.

I'm not sure how a (very brief) cameo in me2 is favourtism.
And if you go out of your way to buy a Liara specific dlc, you can hardly complain about her presence can you.

We're talking about ME3 as far as that's concerned. The ME2 discussion just has to do with the hug that Mike didn't like.

The dlc came with my copy of ME2. So my excuse is I didn't know it was a dlc at that time. The other reason is I'm not a psychic so I had no idea what would happen in the dlc.

I didn't like the hug. After the broker is killed, the player is given the option to hug her or not. Why wasn't that option available when Liara is first seen on Illium?

Sorry but you can do this about every character - why am I not given the option of transferring the civilian Traynor off my military ship and replacing her with a military version?

Why can't I send the t'soni asari to Hackett after Mars?

And Traynor is part of the military. She wears an Alliance uniform. She went to basic training or whatever the Alliance calls it.

Better question:

Why can't Ashley borrow one of Traynor's uniforms once she rejoins the Normandy?

Why can't Ashley have her hair in a bun like in ME1/2?

Because people sometimes change hairstyle. Ashley hairstyle change is nothing compared to Jack.

Ashley's an Alliance marine.  Long, loose hair is not a good idea in combat situations.  Fashionable or not.

What about Samara in ME2? It does have to be Shepard initiated I think, but IIRC, she will show interest but ultimately say "no".

Samara does something different where she just flat turns Shep down, which is also another good Romance Plot, because not everyone should be into the PC. I want something like Ross/Rachel where they get together, but it doesn't work out because their personalities are incompatible, and not because someone is dieing or someone wants to conquer the world, etc.

Aveline did something similar in DA2 where she just wasn't interested in Hawke at all.

What does t'soni know about comms? What does she know about the retrofits that were added to the Normandy? It would just be another thing that is forced on the character that her background doesn't support. Just like her background doesn't support her being a squadmate or a broker?

It doesn't matter, by me3 she is the shadow broker. Comms could've been handled by Edi if necessary and the Intel side of things by Liara.

My point is (and I'm just using Traynor as an example ) is that complaining that you can't do X or y is not a fault of the character but is a result of the tale Bioware want to tell.

For example in ME2 I'd have shot Miranda for executing Wilson and gone straight back to the Alliance. But that is not the story Bioware wrote and there is no point in me spamming every single thread complaining about it.

Simple. She's initiating based on her feelings toward Shepard. Shepard is a passive recipient. While you can wish you could have pushed her off, there was no way to keep her from initiating.

I stopped talking to Liara unless I wanted to romance her.  She showed up unexpectedly when I was talking to Kaidan .  It's been awhile but I'm pretty sure I had told her I wasn't interested in anyone except him.  But I wanted to know about her and apparently she misunderstood my interest.

I wouldn't mind them hitting on my character if you could give a definite "your not my type, lets just be friends" comment with something ruder for those who don't want to be polite to anyone.

I want to know about the characters I'm hanging out with so I want to be able to ask them questions without it going directly to a romance and I don't mind if they tell me it's not my business.   DAI I enjoyed talking to all of them, I didn't mind Cassandra saying she didn't want to talk about her brother and flirting with Dorian.

The only thing the hologram turned platform was doing was making sure to keep the clown happy and to keep trying to tell jokes.

I would be all for that if there was an opportunity to go back to the Alliance. I would feed them crap for not making any effort to find a way to stop the reapers while I was dead.

She has some weird feelings than. Especially if Shepard wanted to throw her in the volcano. It must be an asari thing. Maybe Bioware should add an asterisk in the codex that asari have a tendency to hug people because of feelings and do other unexplained things like take armor from a dead body and display it like its some kind of trophy

Yeah, I'd love them to make companions flirt with you like James in ME3 but then without autodialogue you'd be able to be blunt and say "Keep your hands to yourself, pig" or play along with it and develop romance.

All characters. They are a product of Bioware's writing team, and at the mercy of their requirements for the plot.

Agreed, but is Ash's 'do any worse than some FemSheps'?

Both of them could put the hair in a bun before going into combat situations, of course. I'm more annoyed by both of them keeping their helmets off for a lot of Priority:Mars.

Hmm... how would Jacob have reacted to that? You could shoot him too, I guess.

That actually could have worked. Shepard steals the shuttle, a short cutscene on the Citadel, and the game just ends right there. A small dialogue change at the beginning of ME3, a WA hit for the Collectors' continued raiding, all ME2 companions except Garrus and Tali flagged as killed.... all you need to do is get the SR-2 into Alliance hands.
