How do I do automatic pausing during combat so that I can give orders to all my characters in DA:O? Sorry, I just read through the manual and didn't see it in there (not very observant though) and I'm still getting used to the new forums...I couldn't find the search button.
Also, why am I under DA:O general discussion forums and yet it's talking about everything BUT DA:O??

It's in the options, but it's only available upon initally entering combat. Unfortunately it most often pauses too early, so it's not really of much use IMO.
If you meant to ask how to pause, you just press the space key.

Try Start or Select? or one of the triggers? or even a D pad direction?
