Keeping blues for purples?

Hi all,

I understand that to get (if the random Goddess is good to me) high level purple weapons from the chests you need to have the equivalent blue one in your inventory. Is this the case? and if so is there a source that I can access to get a list of the weapons so that I know which ones to keep?

Does this transition also apply to grey common weapons? ie grey to blue, then blue to grey.

Your input would be appreciated.

Here's a list of items. It isn't quite everything but most of them. Keep the level 26 blues:

Is this what you are asking about?:

Here are each of the weapon cards for the new weapons:

One-Handed
Revered Defender Longsword (Rare)
Valos Atredum (Unique)

Two-Handed
Revered Defender Maul (Rare)
Stone-Breaker (Unique)

Staves
Lyrium-Infused Staff (Rare)
Isana's Song (Unique)
Kingfisher's Staff (Unique)

Daggers
Stone Stalker Blade (Rare)
Silencer (Unique)

Bows
Lyrium-Reinforced Longbow (Rare)
Tezpadam's Bane (Unique)

Shields
Revered Defender Bulwark (Rare)
Isatunoll (Unique)

Supposedly, you have to get the Rare version first before the Unique version can drop from the Perilous/Nightmare Dragon, unless they nixed the idea and allowed them to be obtainable through chests. Kingfisher's Staff is also the only Unique that doesn't have a Rare counterpart.

Though I can´t confirm if it really works that way cause it seems to me I got some of these purples without having the blue counterparts. But maybe I just didn´t pay attention enough.

Apart from the Kingfisher, that didn't need a pre-req, only time I got a purple was AFTER the blue.

It worked as intended for me.....for once.

The irony is not lost on me.

The blue prerequisite is only for when they drop from dragons. From chests, you can get the purple without having the blue.

That would explain the Kingfisher I got a while back. Other than that, I think I have received the Purples after getting the blues. Got the shield yesterday, shiny!

Edit: Isatunoll, of course. :D

I see, but then what happens when some players in the group have the prerequisite and others don't?

Maybe it's based only on the inventory of the player using dragon call?

I guess it's all speculation, but then again we might be on to something

In my I case can confirm the theory for valos atredum (after i got that i salvaged the rdl), tezpadam's bane (got 3 all from dragons so far after getting LRB from dragon), but not isatunoll, which I got from the victory chest last we, without having rdb.

I guess all in all this confirms your theory.

I've been working on getting them all, and I can confirm getting the blues first before the purples. I still need Valos and the bow, got the shield the other night! Quite a great shield IMO.

I've been getting quite a few repeats of Isanas Song and Silencer, and a couple of Stone Breaker. I want to use Silencer but its hard to justify using over Bloody Bargain with Savage Thorn off hand, even with its slightly higher base damage.

Stone Breaker is my main two hander, although Maul of the Dragon is pretty close, and has HoK.

I'd love the tanking sword but no luck this far. I favor Heart of Pride over the staff, but the bow would be awesome.

All of the Descent items are quite good for Hakkon-less people like me, and have a much better drop rate.

Each person's drops from the dragon/treasure rooms are completely unrelated to what other people have or don't have. I don't see how one person not having the prerequisite would affect you since loot is not shared for all people.

Isatunoll is amazing for the templar, since master effects don't stack (ie 10% chance of 5 seconds of WF), you can drop hakkon's honor and use bitter axe for devastating combo wombo explosions that bring down enemies immune to stun, if they are close to enemies killed by the combo, which explode and damage enemies close by. That allows you to deal with enemies immune to stun much more easily. Of course this is more true the lower your critical chance

I really didn't know that, so people can get different things from dragons?

Like that time I got valus atredum from the dragon, it's possible that my party got other items?

Correct. They almost certainly got other items. Actually I think it would be quite some coincidence for two people in party to get same loot.

And this applies to chests in treasure room as well, they also give different things to each player. Many times my friend would announce he got purple card from it while I got simple white for example.

Wow so all those times i saw a purple item from the chest in treasure rooms and pressed the "good work" button (lego rules btw),

maybe the other players just got a higland dirk :) lol and hated me for it.

Now I know thx guys

Unfortunately I don't have either of those weapons, so I've been using the blue revered longsword. I have Brand and Rime, but they are lower base damage for the wombo combo, and I'm weary of using elemental swords due to enemies resistances.

Any advice in those departments? I have to admit, Brand on a templar is a cool concept, but in practice the Revered Longsword seems better at this time.

Oh wow.. I did not know this.
I did have a blue Dagger of the Dragon in my inventory I was keeping there just because I like how it looks.. So that's the reason why I got the purple dagger of the dragon?

Damn I've been salvaging pretty much everything :/

Do not salvage any of your level 25, 26, 27, be they blue or purple.

Well, unless you have a duplicate you don't want.

First time hear that blue versions of dragon weapons exist
But yeah obviously better to have all lvl 25-27 weapons in inventory just in case

There's a reason you keep them all.

You're right, just keep using that and you'll eventually get something better. That's what I did at least. Just do as many nm FC runs as possible, even if you have only a couple of characters that can make it. That's the only way i guess. I got the following from a total of 30 NM FC runs:

One-Handed
Revered Defender Longsword (Rare)
Valos Atredum (Unique)

Staves
Lyrium-Infused Staff (Rare)

Kingfisher's Staff (Unique)

Bows
Lyrium-Reinforced Longbow (Rare)
Tezpadam's Bane (Unique) x3

Dragon rage ring

Plus other lv 24 and lower weapons

So I guess it's not that bad, for me at least. I guess there is no other way, considering how much platinum sucks

P.s. I salvaged revered defender longsword after getting valos atredum, was that a bad choice? (i have hakkon's honor)

I don't think the proc rate on the Isatunoll is as good as the hakkon's honor.  I have tried using bitter axe/Isatunoll vs hakkon honor/stinking cheater and the WF from the hakkon honor proc probably 3 or 4 times more often than the shield's.    Also the hakkon honor's unbowed is the same as the upgraded livid which gives full guard.   It really helps my level 1's. :D

No it's the same: 10% chance to grant 5 seconds of WF, see this:

https://docs.google....aWfhI/pubhtml#

yeah maybe on level 1, but when you go against those bad qunari mobs, you go wombo combo explosions in PL and NM and everyone is dead or hurt real bad including those with stun immunities, amazing against sarebaas surrounded by mobs. I said it before it depends on crit chance, if it's low go for bitter axe, if it's high maybe hh is better, but then again, i like expolosions :)

For the moment my templar is significantly stronger with bitter axe and isatunoll and everything that gets too close explodes

I agree about the explosions :P  But on paper they both 10% but it just doesn't feel like they proc the same rate.   I wonder if the 10% WF on the shield is 10% chance on being hit instead of 10% on you hitting something.

No it's 10% on hit, tested, cause if it was like you said the effects could stack, but HH and Isatunoll don't.  Trust me it's just your impression all the master effects on the shields except guardian spirit are on hit and not being hit

actually spec rate is higher if you use maces and axes, cause they hit faster

No, feel free to salvage those. The only blues you want to keep are the lvl26 Descent ones.
