I'm not gonna list for each companion but only the classes I play...
Assassins: 10% hidden blades chance with 3/4 additional hits.. Because I love the design of the skill, the flashing, and ofc all the pew pew damage spam
Tanks (Cass/Rainier): On hit gain 5 guard -> specially Blackwall is never dying with this. Never.
Mages: 10% chance to cast Veilstrike on a hit -> Aoe stun/knockdown, super useful!
I don't really use Iron Bull, Sera or Varric except for their personal quests.
Least used: Berserker material and the one who gives extra focus.. because at some point of the game I don't even really use the focus abilities anymore anyway. :/
BUT! I only play on Normal. Might be a whole different story for higher difficulties ![]()

Rogues: Hidden blades on hit. 3/5.. and the other one on one of the weapons. An artificer that crits every hit..
Mages: Any magic ability. Necromancers can use a walking bomb proc and detonate it manually.. so that is always a good one. Add a POTA proc on the weapon and you can walking bomb detonate for the lolz. Immolate or chain lightning are also good ones to stick on there. Saves taking them on your abilities bar.
Tank: Guard on hit 5, Put 3 on the shield and any ability you want on the weapon. I use hidden blades 5 and it makes up for the dps issue.
2h: 5 Guard on hit, put hidden blades 5 on the weapon and spin to win.
I play on hard and nightmare.

You know there is a 5 hits hidden blades material, right? Plush fustian velvet does 5 hits. I like to stack ring velvet on one dagger and plush fustian on the other of a DW dagger rogue. Its magic! One time I played a game where everyone had hidden blades on something. It was downright ridiculous.
I like silverite guard on hit for my squishy types like Bull and Cole. But then again I like guard on hit for most everyone save my tanks who do a decent job of generating it themselves.
For Dorian I like the 1% heal on hit snofleur leather for his staff. He never dies. If that isn't available I'll sub in the dawnstone heal 25% damage over 10 seconds. But I like the 1% heal on hit since it is constantly healing him better.

I hate farming for materials. Normally I only get on Fade touch Silverlite. It usually drops by the dragons in Emprise Du Lion.

I'm running explode on kill for 75% weapon damage and 10% chance to cause walking bomb on my damage dealers for mobbing.
For bosses I masterwork the weapon and use the 30% damage bonus if you haven't been hit in 5 seconds.
Support mages I run heal 25% of damage over 10 seconds and 10% chance of veilstrike on hit
Tanks I run 10% chance of Walking Fortress for 5 seconds, PtoA on hit and heal 25% of damage over 10 seconds.

If you are running on PC, get cheat engine. There is a loot table that makes shops sell infinite supplies. Just sell the FT Silverite and just buy as many as you want back. Providing you have the money that is. The RNG grind was one of the things I hated on my first play through.. then after I finished it back in November, when we were all working on building the forums and wikis, I installed cheat engine and manually added all schematics.. got the loot table and never looked back.

if you don't mind, could you list those Engine out? or at least the one that sells infinite supply

I run these combinations:
1h-Shield tanks: 10% chance walking fortress, heal 25% damage, and one more
Mage: 10% chance walking fortress, 10% chance fade cloak
Mage (KE)/2h Warrior: 10% chance walking fortress, and +10% stat masterwork
Rogue (archer): +30% damage when not being hit, and +10% stat masterwork (or shield bash)
Rogue (dw): 10% chance walking fortress, 10% chance fade cloak, and one offensive masterwork
I mainly play on nightmare with all combat-related trials.
I don't prefer the +5 guard, because guard won't save you against many enemies when the difficulty setting is turned up. On the other hand, if you have walking fortress up, you are completely invulnerable. Furthermore, the +guard upgrade on horn of valor does the job of guard generation.

Just follow the link below. There you can download the engine and the loot table. I use one of the earlier versions as I need nothing else from it bar the infinite supply script. Saves hours of grinding and save scumming dragons for T4 mats. .

I guess it makes sense. To be honest I never had them die with all that guard in Normal, but Nightmare might be completely different ![]()
Yeah, I know there is a hidden blades with 5 hits but I never found it :/ I don't really farm those, I just go with what I get in the inventory by simply playing/looting. So I said 3/4 cause that's what I have tried up to now ![]()
Also I guess it makes sense to put a little guard on weak guys (specially Cole, jeez he usually is the only one always dying XD And Solas after him). For some reason I always associated guard with heavy melee class. Might try this if I do another run one day.. ![]()

You can also use the container respawn exploit to get an unlimited amount of fade-touched materials.
For the +3 guard (Fade touched obsidian), there's a building in Redcliffe village that has a chest with this material, although requiring deft hands to access. Simply get the fade-touched obsidian while leaving at least one item in the chest. Zone to a different map, return, and the fade-touched obsidian respawns in the chest.
This also works on fade rifts in the frostback basin (Hakkon DLC). Each fade rift in the frostback basin spawns a fade-touch metal. So leave at least one item in the drop, zone to a different map, and then return to get another fade-touch metal. Using this method, an unlimited amount of Fade-touch dawnstone (10% chance of walking fortress) can be obtained from the fade-rift immediately NW of the starting point. Another fade rift to the west of the camp near the swamp spawns fade-touch silverite. The rifts are level 20+, but if you turn difficulty down to casual, you can clear them at an early level.

I must be doing something wrong. I'm about 65-70% into the game and i still haven't gotten anything that's worth it and haven't had any use for Dagna.

You don't need Deft Hands, you can glitch through the roof. And you while it's true you have to zone out to reload the chest, you don't have to leave Redcliffe village. Entering either the Gull and Lantern tavern or the chantry loads a new zone. For the +3 guard (Fade touched obsidian), there's a building in Redcliffe village that has a chest with this material, although requiring deft hands to access. Not that any of those pro glitching tips matter any more, since Horn of Valor/Fortifying Blast gives you all the guard you could ever want and more. FT mats for Guard are pretty much a waste of time now.

The OP FT mats are, of course, my favorites:
- Hidden Blades, any number, they are all good
- 30% damage bonus if not being hit, for ranged attackers
- 10% chance of Walking Fortress for X seconds
- Heal 25% of damage over X seconds
- Chance to cast Pull of the Abyss or Immolate
- Chance to inflict Bees!

That's all after Skyhold. Before Skyhold, I'm partial to the FT mats that reduce mana/stamina costs and give healing, since I tend to run under level on NM.

I typically give the non tanks guard on hit (tanks are fine generating their own IMO), Hidden Blades proc is nice for dps on weapons though it is tempting to use +10% to stats since the weapon dmg affects all your skills. I'm also a fan of the shield bash proc. It's not as much dps as hidden blades but I hate seeing foes with guard and the proc helps eradicate their guard quicker. I like health on hit for melee dps since they usually take the brunt of boss pbaoe's

yay! no more grinding. thanks!
by the way, do those loot ever disappear (given that i do leave at least one item behind) since they're not in a chest i.e. will they be gone when i come back after switching to and from another map or when i restart the game

Totally agree with the you. I don't understand why people like +5 guard on hit. Getting only 5 points of guard with each hit is so slow and useless. There are far better ways to generate guard like Charge Bull, HOV, To The Death...etc. Using +5 guard material is basically a waste IMO, especially on a tank.

My favorate too.
But why wast on your tanks who already have enough ways of getting guard already. Use on rogues who are in combat all the time but cannot generate guard otherwise (ecept Fortifying Blast.) Or on Viv for same reason.
OK if you are using the never empty chest cheat fine.

It works only on regular attacks, skills and spells doesn't get any noticeable bonus. I just recently did some tests.
I personally use hidden blades, guard on hit, heal on hit, walking fortress (for cass), and 10% chance of 5 sec of Horn of Valor.
I wonder about shield bash, does it make aoe damage or just to a single target?

I know that some folks are saying that +5 guard on hit suffers from diminishing returns on higher difficulties, but I'm going to have to disagree with that. That and heal-on-hit (I put Cole in both!) have saved my bacon more times than I can count.
