True, but you're threatening him in order to help Ken (I think that's his name) get off of Omega.  Meanwhile, the Renegade dialogue gets Harot to either make Ken increase his prices or shut down his shop completely (iirc), which is basically adding insult to injury considering Ken's situation.

Doesn't matter if you're helping the quarian. Shepard is threatening someone with violence. But that's ok. Its paragon. I don't care one way or the other. I just find it odd that threatening someone with violence is a paragon thing

I think that the context of the situation counts into it being considered Paragon.  And honestly, I have a feeling that Renegade Shep would just break Harot's legs instead of threatening to do so.

AGH you know what. I can't replay ME1 AGAIN. i love it, it's a great game. but I am some one who HAS to do all the side stuff, and ME1 is soooo soooo slow on my ps, the loading screens, the crashing. I canttttt. But I did prefer my first shepards backstory more than my newer one, plus I had kaidan alive and I regret killing him on Virmire on my 2nd shepard...only thing is I romanced him and want to romance Thane for this next shep - so guess shep will be 'cheating'.

I know the feeling, it takes me 5-10 minutes to run across the citadel looking for side quests even with fast travel. Honestly ME1 is a bit boring compared to the others. Still a great game but ill rather grind dog residue in undertale than play that game again >.>

I would recommend getting the treatment from Dr. Chakwas though to get rid of the scars. I feel like Shepard would be walking around like this:

My own advice would be to not pay attention to Renegade/Paragon but to come up with a profile/back-story for a Shepard that might lean more one way or the other. Do not think of it as yourself making the choices, but the avatar of the character you have created. For instance, you could pick the Ruthless background, a Shepard that will do what it takes to get the mission done regardless of personal feelings. It is Ruthless-Shepard that kills Wrex on Virmire, not you. It is Ruthless-Shepard that kills Mordin on Tuchanka, not you. (And since you have probably never killed Mordin, let me just say that that scene is extremely well done. Very dramatic and filled with feelz.)

Most of my Shepards end up almot 50/50 in the Paragon/Renegade department. Tristan Shepard, for instance, got the paragon version of the Shepard VI dialogue towards the beginning of ME3, but after the coup got the renegade version because of some choices he had made in between.

The one thing about going 50/50 however is that you will want to glitch up your renegade and paragon points in ME1 so that you can max out the number of these points you import into ME2. I always try to import the maximum of 190 points each so that I can pass persuade checks without focusing on being either pure paragon or pure renegade. This also allows me to skip persuade checks and interrupts if I do not feel they are appropriate for the Shepard I am playing at that time.

I normally do Paragon. Though I've started a Renegade Ruthless Colonist character.

The problem I have with the whole system is that the "paragon" choice is fairly consistent: shep trying to be a standup character and do the right thing.  But "renegade" seems to be a mish-mash of various attitudes, spanning a true renegade (well-meaning character working outside normal socially accepted or legal bounds, e.g. Robin Hood) to just being a jerk to people for no apparent reason.

True. The best (or worst) example of that is the treatment of Samara's family: Killing Samara and letting the Ardat-Yakshi Morinth escape is a Renegade choice, but killing Falere just because she's an Ardat-Yakshi and can't be allowed to escape is also... a Renegade choice!
That's why I played two types of renegades: one is a "jerk hero," and the other is a true psycho who executes allies and civilians without remorse.

I also find it problematic that I have to be nice to absolutely everyone or an utter jerk just so that I can defuse another situation futher down the line. I'd much rater prefer that renegade and paragon points influenced how others acted towards you without limiting the choices you have in solving a situation

While it does inhibit gameplay, which should probably be put first, I understand it from a design perspective. If a choice is blacked out, then you simply have built a Shepard who would not say that thing. Then again, you could spend the whole first game being paragon about humanity needing to work with other races and be a part of the community, and then still say "F the Council" at the end.
