Shepard was awesome. She/He was as good or better than most other protagonist in any other video game. Having said that, I'm willing to keep an open mind. This ain't a Super Mario bros game. Eventually Shepard has to be replaced.
Even the Mario world could move away from Mario. Nintendo's just not stupid enough to destroy the whole setting.

They did move away from Mario. Luigi's had several of his own games were Mario makes a cameo appearance at best. Hell PEACH had her own game. The cute cuddly velociraptor also had his own games.
Nintendo is smart, they make games WITH the primary protagonist, and WITHOUT all at the same time! Wouldn't quite work with Biowares more serialized version of story telling, but they could go that route if the decided to mix things up a bit.

Bioware is missing the point, people are more concerned with how Bioware is handling the franchise. Shepard has nothing to do with it since people have no problem playing a new character.
So, you figure that Bio planted the Twitter question and then bribed CNet into covering their response?

No, Shepherd story is done and its time to move on to bigger things people lol Even if some of you believe Shep is still alive, I'm pretty sure Shep is up for retirement after all the Reaper crap lol

The fact that the devs think people want Shepard this much is already bad assumption on their part.
Since the launch of this forum section, I can count on one hand the people who actually give a ****.

Again, people were talking about this on Twitter.
In general, the BSN's interests and the interests of the fanbase as a whole aren't very closely related..

I don't think so. I think it's a way to demean anyone who's on the fence. It happened here almost immediately, where threads popped up that built strawmen like "You're not going to have Shepard again. Get over it!"
But the whole time, they're just imagining opponents. Or assuming there's a lot from a comment or two.

The best line in the whole article was the following.
However, Shepard showing up doesn't seem likely. Wynn previously said Andromeda will not feature any familiar faces from past Mass Effect games. "Story-wise, it wouldn't make much sense," he said.
One of the reason why the games industry is stale is that companies create sequel after sequel or prequel over and over again. Bioware rarely creates sequels. I can think of only a couple. Buldar's gate2, ME2 and ME3. Kotor 2 and NWN2 are not even Bioware games. The Dragon age games have three in the series but they are each stand alone games set in the same world but they are not sequels of any of the previous games.
I like that Bioware is less sequel driven then some studios. And even franchise of other studios that are not sequel driven like Assassin's creed are over done to death how many assassin's creed games are there now? It is boring. We players are our own worst enemies we complain that the industry is stale but when a company decides NOT to make a sequel like Bioware is doing with MEA people QQ. Wah wah wah i want [insert demand here]. Well you are not getting Shepard, the milky way or a cameo of your favourite character because the trilogy is OVER. Time to suck it up.
Let the industry give us new stories with new characters. Shepard was an unknown in 2008 Bioware didn't need to create a kotor sequel to give us a good sci-fi game. Now in 2016 they don't need to give us Shepard and friends to give us a new good sci-fi game.

I think people have come to accept that Mass Effect is much larger than just Shepard & Co. While those were great memories, I want to see the brand expand into new territory with new characters, villains, and heroes.

CNet covered the response. Should they have ignored that instead?
And if this is a nonissue, why are you reading this thread?

Yeah, he should ignore it.
Probably shouldn't even be on Twitter, but that's another story.
As for why I'm reading this, I just think the whole Shepard thing is a conversation killer. I think there can be better discussion with people who have doubts or were attached to the previous series. But first, Shepard has to be left out of it. It assumes people are actually that petty....

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Lacking basic military knowledge is kind of a Thing with video-game characters, especially ones that appear in military-themed games.
Eh, i've played JRPGs where their cast of teenagers with zero military experience displayed far greater knowledge than Shepard, like trails in the sky, where they plan raids that involve ambushes, flanking, etc, whereas Shepard's usual MO is "go here and start pew pewing".
I would've preferred having them or Welkin Gunther from Valkyria Chronicles in charge of saving the galaxy tbh.

Do most of you really think Shepard will be in ME:A?
Mass Effect: Andromeda "can be good" even without the original trilogy's main character, director says.
Asking gamers to have an "open mind" is like asking hardcore original Star Wars fans not to hate the prequels, Gamers who hate ME:A already won't like it regardless if Shepard's in it or not. They will hate it for "betraying" what they think Mass Effect is and any other number of reasons.

Honestly looking back, Shepard was a lamentably shallow character. Even with the various origins, I can't say he/she amounted to anything more than power trip fantasy.

That's not really like that at all. People who hate the Star Wars prequels hate them because they saw them and determined that they were hot garbage passed through Lucas' schlock machine. Gamers who hate ME:A already have only bits of info, some of which seems more like rumor, and a trailer to work with.

im pretty sure some people hated the starwars prequels before they saw it
and i dont blame them
and i dont blame people for been negetive towards the new mass effect Because as it looks they are ignoring the trilogy
so people do have a reason to feel mad.

Andromeda isn't part of the trilogy, so why would people be mad that it's not part of it?

I am not exactly sure when it started, but it seems that the there is a large vocal group that expects it to be designed to their personal likes and dislikes. It is something that I see regularly on multiple different boards. People are angry and Bethesda because they are moving to a voiced protagonist or that CDPR is going to a non-set protagonist with Cyberpunk and the list just goes on.
