I know this is horribly off topic but... anyway from time to time I have wondered why Edi didn't get a proper 'flesh' body after co opting Eva... or would that have been way too Cylon for plausible deniability :P

Whilst I don't expect the Reapres to return other than maybe being mentioned here and there. I would expect VI's and AI's to be part of the story. The main enemy could even have AI's at their disposal and so could we. Until we ge ta clearer idea of what the story will be about we should be ready for anything.

I'm hoping for synthetic crew members.  I can't see Bioware making the game contain absolutely no AI, VI etc technology.

Doesn't Legion ask about this?

It will be due to a scorched earth approach to avoid the return of AI's in any and every form, I would go as far as to assume that AI's will be 1000% illegal and punishable by death and not just the convicted party but also their entire family, their friends, and their known associates.

I don't see how this would happen. If the Reapers' motivations become known -- which should happen if Shepard survives Destroy , the Sheplyst tells the truth in Control, or Synthesis is chosen and the Reapers tell everyone what was going on -- the Catalyst's motivations will be as discredited as eugenics was in 1945.

Even if this doesn't happen, I don't see how we get to what you're suggesting.

I always assumed that it was burned/removed from the chassis. And I doubt they had any synthflesh onboard

I Expect ME:A to be without Reapers, Geth, AIs & VIs and you should too.

That would be a goddamn utopia.

I definitely wouldn't be opposed to more machines unquestioningly serving their rightful purpose for their organic masters, though I doubt the toaster hugging neohippies at Biower would write something like that

Unfortunately, there will probably be talking toasters. Still, shooting them in the face, reducing them to molten scrap with explosives or hacking them into breaking each other makes for pretty good gameplay, so it isn't all bad as long as we don't have to be "friends" (lol friends with a nonliving mechanical object) with them again like in ME3.

You can always trust those clanless to get their enviro-huggies in a twist when the subject of machines is brought up.

I'm fine with machines. In fact, I love the ones that are working properly. Technological progress is good, and is what makes the Quarian Race so Masterful.

Being forced into playing a retarded person that thinks blenders are people is not fun though, and is also very immsersion breaking unless the game is a simulator about living as a patient in an insane asylum.

If we were able to play as Veetor we'd know what that's like.

I hope not for a organic vs machine story theme, I do not dislike the theme itself. I just did not like Bioware's handling of it and the Geth. So I am sure we wouldn't get a repeat of AI's are people too message.

Sympathy for the Quarians has its place even if the Geth ARE "people", it has very little to do with each other.

Also: "I think, therefore I am" - is far from retarded.

You don't have to agree, but the question of synthetic life is far from being as cut and dry as you make it to be.

Isn't this the part where you're supposed to explain why some intelligent beings are "people" and others are not?

VIs are used for a lot of thing, like the probes, automatic mining machines on hazardous planets, keeping in memory political members anniversaries... Why must disapear something so useful and harmless?

So you expect the Geth to magically disappear after they help the Quarians?

That's warhammer 40K logic. Interesting, but no.

You know, without the Inquisition and that attitude the Empire would've fallen to chaos 10k years ago. I dunno if the complete genocide of the human race sounds good to you, but in the 40k universe the Inquisition and their scorched earth policies are what keep the empire going. Space Marines can only do so much, and without the Inquisition the Imperial Guard would be filled with traitors and cultists and warp-addled fools.

I'd only like that if they brought in the ME equivalent of Mentats. :P

I love Frank Herbert :)

And human computers are a very interesting idea that hasn't been terribly well explored (outside some niche authors of course). Of course the process of turning a human into a mentat was developed over hundreds of years, it certainly isn't just flipping a switch and requires an incredibly precise training regime. Would be neat :)

We're in the Andromeda Galaxy now, why would the Geth be here? And why would Quarians be here? Quarians aren't a very fractured people, they are like the Omish, they have an incredibly high retention rate (unbelievably high in real life). Every Quarian in existence (bar a handful of stragglers) where at Rannoch participating in the battle.

I agree entirely, except the geth aren't people so I would only cease to have sympathy for the quarians if they suddenly all became robo hippies like those idiots trying to countermand the shutdown order in the geth propaganda video. Or Koris's dumb toaster loving arse, but I usually don't let poetic justice take its course and allow him to be killed by the toasters because I'm the better, more intelligent and understanding individual.

No, it's really retarded by modern standards. A dualistic product of a fundamentally flawed 17th century understanding of science that can be easily debunked, and usually is in philosophy 101 classes. It certainly doesn't apply to the mechanisms of the functions and subroutines of computer software programs anyway, of which the processes and outputs can be easily explained.

No, it is that simple. The consensus of modern science agrees with me. Only hack videogame writers who have read a little too much from other hack writers like Ray Kurzweil disagree.

Isn't this the part where you're supposed to explain why some intelligent beings are "people" and others are not?

Isn't this the part where you're supposed to explain how an entirely nonsentient software program is an "intelligent being" by any reasonable definition? Moreover, you should explain the necessary connection between personhood and intelligence. Several nonsapient animals are smarter than young children, so I guess toddlers aren't people then? Or are Chimpanzees, Dolphins and Magpies also people?

Deep Blue beat Kasparov at chess. I guess I shouldn't have uninstalled and deleted my Windows 8.1 when I "upgraded" (lol) to 10 as it is clearly murder of an "intelligent being".

You people almost sound like anti-abortion kooks with your ridiculous, unscientific definitions of "life".
