It's actually from the line in the Tridentine Mass that hearkens back to Matthew 8:8. It translates into English as "just say the word." Without context, it has layered meaning, while still retaining the religious implication.

Yep the historical context of the roman officer over 100 is known. Without the "Sed" you latin phrase becomes "say the word" without the "but/just" - c what i mean ? The context and crux of authority is embodied in "***but** saying a word" without lifting a single finger. Of course one can leave out the crux on pupose to convey the reduced/opposite /anti .. or simply by accident...

Ehm ...Now don't tell me that u don't sauna? It's not a freak show- it's actually as good as it gets. Arktinen don't let the man stray to far from home in this state -lest some wood chopping hunk (missing the front row) but with a hockey stick crosses his path.

No, the word tantum means "only" in that context. Sed would be the additional conjunction "but". So, "Domine, non sum dignus ut intres sub tectum meum, SED tantum dic verbo et sanabitur anima mea," translates as, "Lord, I am unworthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed (or cleansed, I suppose). But "sed" in that case is only functioning as the conjunction. "Tantum" is "only".

I thought about our discussion today as I accidentally crashed an anniversary/wedding mass at the beautiful St. Bonaventure chapel just outside the Roman Coliseum. I don't speak Italian, and I kept reverting back to Latin responses, including the non sum dignus. If I were ever to throw myself back onto the rusty railroad spike of marriage, that would be a lovely place to do so. :D

Meh I'm an introvert and would rather be silent most of the time with minor inputs here and there. I'd be completely fine without a mic

...

Yeah- what's a word here or there left out on a proverb anyway.
That's the beauty of artistic self-determination.

That feeling of non sun dignus I get a lot of times when playing in AHF.
And when I make a noob mistake , I have to surpress the mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

I miss the Latin. Just finished stomping about through Ancient Rome. I have to absorb it while I can. Tomorrow I fly back to the 'States. There are moments when I forget why I'm going back.

Wow, yes that city shines majestically with ancient heritage ;)
There are scant Roman traces left in Italy/esp in Rome-> the Italians are simply the mixture of the whole Roman empire cultures /slaves that spoke a broken Latin now called Italian, when the Roman empire came to a fall. There were probably some Romans left, but mostly far away in secluded spots from where Rome burnt down. That's why Latin is not spoken in any specific country anymore... The critical threshold of people actively living in that language was ripped away.

Yesterday evening I attended Mass at St. Peter's Basilica. This afternoon, not so much. It's back to urine smells and rampant obesity. At least there won't be as much urine smell when I leave New York. It was an awesome trip, though. Thanks, Italy! And feel free to speak Italian whenever you find me in a game lobby!

Alas, what happens to the hole when the cheese is gone ...
(Creatively borrowed from Berthold Brecht)

Took some souvenirs 4 the journey home?

Nothing for myself--a few small things for those back home. The memory is the souvenir. For a primitive theist like me, there was a lot to take away for thought and prayer. I mean, it would have been awesome to take the Pietá back with me, but the luggage fees would have killed me (along with Italian customs officials).

So I realized something today while Woodchuck and I were watching Elcor school us at Isaac.

Jews don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah.  And at the Last Supper, Jesus was betrayed by Judas.  JEWdas.

This cannot be a coincidence.

the only time i talk on the mic is to let folks know how much time is left to get to extraction. or if i've been downed and one person is left to save the match... let em know how many enemies are around and that i'm watching their backs for them. das it. my mic is always muted otherwise.
