Short:

Is it worse to go for Headshot passive evolution, using the Reegar?

Long:

I still don't get it how the Reegar Carbine  really works.

I know has a Headshot Muliplier (2,5 x) [edit]

Due to an old peddroelm post, it does shoot 8 Pellets per Ammo, but after the first shot most of them miss.

And it fires in a weird wide cone (even smart choke didn't help here).

So can you land enough pellets in the enemies head, that its worse to aim at it? Or is it better to aim for the biggest hit zone which is the body?

I always aim for headshots Reeger. But I also sometimes aim for both both and head, aka the neck, instead too (usually when they too far away or squirming Banshee). This way you get the best of both worlds.

It has the standard headshot modifier, which is 2.5x.

Many of the pellets will dissolve into the ether regardles of where you aim it.  It is always best to aim for headshots or multi-hits.  The difference in ammo consumption is noticeable.

Don't use Smart Choke, run a mod with cover penetration and armor piercing (HVB or Shredder) with IA, or run AP ammo.

Passive headshot damage evos at rank 5 are relatively small additive damage bonuses.  Whether or not it is worth it depends on the character and if they need power damage.

Treat the reegar like a flamethrower instead of a shotgun, aim for the head.........as if you could miss it with the reegar, and oil it with the tears of your enemies. Smart choke will do you no good with the reegar. It's one and only "weakness" is that you must be very close.

Well, there's that, and then there's the stupid rattle it makes.  And the fact that scrubs are attracted to it like no other weapon.  It may be a piece of genius Quarian engineering, but it ain't a shotgun by any definition I've ever seen.  I consider that a weakness.  :P

I treat it like a laser. It looks like it has a wide cone but it really acts more like a pinpoint accurate gun. OP AF too!

With high RoF weapons (like the Reegar), absolutely always go for head shots.  Things die faster when you do.  With low RoF weapons it depends on how consistently you can land the shot and how much more damage the targeted enemy can take (if a body shot will do the trick there is no reason to spend additional time adjusting for the head).

Play Asari Valkyrie Adept with the Reeger and Incendiary Ammo.

vs. Reapers

Go up to a Banshee, get her in Annihilation Field, Warp, then start Reeger'ing her in, say, the feet (not her belly b/c that's also a weakpoint for her). You killed her pretty fast, didn't you?

Now do the same thing, Banshee, Annihilation Field, Warp, Reeger... but aim for her head. Holy **** you melted her in no time!

That's why you aim for the head even with the Reeger.
