Pretty much. Even though I don't like the Volus and very rarely play them, I'd have to say they are one of the more tanky kits in MP because of shield boost and the temporary TC. Throw soft cover and Geth Scanner in the mix and you have something that will almost never die.

 

Also the fact his heavy melee is another form of invincibility frames and has double cloak on separate cooldowns to boot.

 

And you don't see many kits able to take hard hitting attacks like for example, scion cannon shots, atlas rockets, banshee warps / scream, praetorian lasers and take almost no damage thanks to their heavy melee and shield boost. 

 

Geth scanner is awesome on a volus but I use Assault Loadout instead because I love abusing the 100% damage bonus for 10 seconds when you use a thermal clip pack or when I'm not bothered to run to an ammo box.

I never play gold on any character under level 10. Up till that point none of the powers are evolved enough to be as useful as they could be.

 

That being said after you get use to it you can play on any level at any time if you are up to it. Random lobbies vary some players know to fight as a groups. Other scatter to the winds and die over and over again then you are running clean up trying to revive them knowing you can't take on those 2 atlas and 4 phantoms solo either.

 

I do wonder why people seem to treat rockets like some sort of sacred item. One game on the slarian STG base what ever it is called. The entire team was out and 2 banshees were left. Right next to each other. Rather then rocketing them both to death and getting on with level. The player decided to take both out the old fashion way. Which basically meant her asari character back peddled around the map over a dozen time.  Taking literally 10 minutes to kill both since the banshees can and do enter a phase that prevents powers from effecting them.  And over a dozen times they were right next to each other were a single rocket could take out both.

 

Or a hack mission on Tuchunka when it is in the middle of the map. 2 atlas and 3 phantoms and some dragoons right on top of us and no one but me is willing to use a rocket. And that is after I have to waste 2 medi gel and spec op pack just to get a chance to fire the rocket off. Mean while this other player is off to the side shooting into the mix.

But 99% of PUGs don't use BSN and are completely unaware of important gameplay mechanics, strategic do's and don'ts, and so on. Simply having a little bit of know-how goes a long ways.


Played a game earlier today, one guy had 5 digit n7 and 6 digit cp, had a gps with hvb on it. I was like hey that thing can't pierce, dude said something mumbly and readied up.

I'm aware of nova cancelling, though I've never tried it rolling, only meleeing.

many character have DR (damage reduction) while melee like batarian

slayer have I-frame when light melee etc

 

but in my opinion

if you have time to do melee that make you can't move, why not shoot and run

the animation for most of the melee character take a few seconds. 

DR or no DR, you still take damage

if you team with any  fast killer, they head shot with some strong weapon

they kill your target while you melee air.

 

only a few kits is capable to do melee effectively.

like heave melee korgan , melee GI build . korgan vanguard melee build against geth is nearly invincible

even korgan warlord, their hammer attack can be slow or miss

melee build is more advance game play

 

i love GI melee , melt anything

but it is high risk high reward play.

it is fun. but not effective

your gun shoot faster with lower risk

To be honest, to me it seems like the dificulty scale isnt the most acurate. For comparison it seems that sometimes a gold run can be no diferent from a silver run, other times it can be a huge diference. I think that the four dificulties can be represented by a value from 1-100. Bronze is 0-25. Silver is 26-50- Gold is 51-75 and platinum is 76-100.

This goes for mobs as well, depending on what they do. The phantom is a good example, its not a top mob like the atlas but it can sometimes be as dificult to kill.

Something else that effects how dificult it is is the arena you play in. Some areas are small and you keep running into mobs whereever you go. Some are larger and you can outrun mobs when they get too close.

Gold is really the sweet spot difficulty. Not too much boss spam where it becomes a grind but not too little where its too easy and there's plenty of mooks. Its also perfect for experimenting with new builds

Here is a list of some classes that can do a lot of damage on Gold with their powers

 

I'd add the Human Sentinel to the list. It's a very straightforward kit for a newer player and has beastly combos.

I wonder why you're the one to make that suggestion Jeremiah :P

I've seen your guide and started a HS at lvl 8 and went until lvl 15. I'm still suck but now that I have both throw and Warp to enhance detonation things should get better.

Gold has always been the more enjoyable difficulty overall to me. I enjoy duoing platinum more but for anything else I prefer gold.
