Seriously, I couldn't stand to play bland Inquisitor again.,

The Inquisitor is boring to play as, far too neutral sounding for some people.

Femhawke is also the voice of Ciri..

The Fade ' supposed death', can easily be written around.

 Ect.

and Snarky Hawke, is semi- infamous.

So to the Hawke Fans, would you play as Hawke again? To Non-Hawke fans, (or fans who are neutral on Hawke) would it really bother you, if Hawke was just optional?

 3...2..1..

Discuss.

If Femhawke was actually Ciri I might have actually liked Dragon Age 2. Oh well.

To your actual question though...

I actually want Hawke to return to a similar role as he/she had in Here lies the abyss, but as an actual party member. How cool would an companion Hawke be?

This isn't actually serious, is it? *rolleyes*

I think the BW devs have better things to spend their money on, rather than spending it all on recording alternate dialogue and writing lines specifically for a completely optional main protagonist to whomever the next protagonist is. I like Hawke, so I don't mind him/her or even the Warden showing up for story-related reasons in a future game.

I was even okay with the dual protagonist idea brought up in another thread where you might spend some time as one or more past protagonists in different sections of the game (kind of like what jaison said up above). However, this idea of Hawke being an optional main protagonist when it's unlikely to make any kind of narrative sense (given where DA4 seems like it might be heading) and because I do believe that money can be better spent elsewhere. Also, since I dislike The Witcher, Ciri's voice isn't really a selling point for me.

The moment they made Hawke living optional was the moment you should have given up hope of his return.   They'll probably create another bland protag since a vocal group likes it so much and it keeps them from actually having to try hard with character development.

Can't really do much about it since Hawke could die in Inquisition. If he/she died then DAIV would be irrelevant should they choose Hawke to return.

Or they could have character development and personal stakes in the main game, instead of in a final DLC.

I wouldn't mind playing as Hawke again, but I wouldn't want to play as them in the story that Bioware allude to in DA4.

If anything, it should be a continuation of Hawke's own story.

I don't want to play as the bland Inquisitor. Luckily all my Inquisitors have been awesome.

I loved sarcastic FemHawke, but I wouldn't want to see her back, and I don't see the point of wasting all those resources on an optional protagonist. They would presumably need to react to situations differently than the standard protagonist so would need to have differently written and animated cutscenes as well as all the VA work... Let's just have someone new, please.

While Hawke has been my favorite protagonist so far, no, I want a new character for DA4. I don't want to play as the Warden or Hawke or the Inquisitor again for this main story, their time in the spotlight is over. It would be nice if they all show up again like in the instance of a final, epic battle to save Thedas or something, but not as a main protagonist. I found my Inquisitor bland too compared to my Hawke and Warden, but that was the personality I gave her. She's too nice and morally correct. If I played as a blue Hawke, I'd find her just as boring. However, I love all my characters, because I made them have different personalities and make different decisions based on who they were as a character, verses what I would choose if I played as myself.

I gave them their own character development, so they don't start and end as a perfect character that never changes. It is an RPG, so you just need to use your imagination to sculpt around the story Bioware gave us and you will find your character a lot less stagnant.

Now that being said, if Hawke was optional, I wouldn't mind it, but that is a bit too hopeful to think as a possibility. You've got to consider Hawke's LI, a completely different backstory from a new protagonist, and not to mention all the extra dialogue that would need to be made. I really don't see how that would work out, unless they scrap all the mmo fetch quests and focus more on the characters. I honestly would not mind that a bit.

Sarcastic male Hawke is my favourite Bioware protagonist but I honestly wouldn't want to see him back. He got his happy ending in the Trespasser epilogue and that's good enough for me.

You could do this with any protag if you brought back dialogue tones. I'm not saying they should bring back dialogue tones. But they could if they wanted to.

Although, if I'm honest, I liked The Three-Toned One. I liked having three distinct "voices" for Hawke, even if snarky Hawke was kind of a jerk. It was fun.

Would all the companions from DA2 be companions in DA4?

I don't see that happening since Hawke can be left in the fade. Though I would be curious what explanation Bioware would give for Hawke making it out of the fade.

You kidding? DA2 was a bore without sarcastic Hawke. Nothing better then a protagonist that makes terrible jokes no one finds funny and still somehow makes us laugh. Well, I usually laughed anyway...

Honestly, Hawke would be a lot better in Inquisition if they didn't had so much neutral dialogue. It was pretty obvious BW was cutting corners there because they didn't wanted to spend too many resources by giving us more varied conversations with Hawke.

I kind of wish Hawke had been a companion in DAI. Being a companion in DA4 would be stretching it now. Though Fenris...

I don't know why they couldn't bother making Hawke's tones more distinct. It's not like s/he had that much dialogue in DAI...I thought Bio knew that snarky Hawke was well liked, even by a lot of people who didn't care for DA2 as a whole.

While none of the previous protagonists will be back for a second round, by design, my answer is...

They did attempt to do it but to me it seemed like they were trying to avoid having all of Hawke's dialogue not be dominated by their personality

Good idea but poorly executed

It wasn't limited resources. They still had three PC responses per dialogue state. It doesn't cost extra to inject them with humor (most of the writers - most writers in general - are sarcastic blighters anyway and you have to actively tell them to stop writing snark). They eliminated dialogue tones, sarcastic Hawke in particular, because people complained that it made Hawke sound as if he or she suffered form disassociative personality disorder.

Refreshing to see another disliker of Hawke here. Same almost, I let her/him live in my Alistair is the warden playthrough and my Loghain is the warden playthrough. As for the others, he/she dead.

I love Hawke, but retirement in far away Kirkwall is preferable to getting back into the grinder.
