[ ] Enable heterosexual romance.
[ ] Enable homosexual romance.
You can mark both options, just one of them, or leave them empty.

That would save all those awkward chats where you're just trying to be nice not flirt

Though I kind of get the impression that if we had had fewer romances we'd have lost some of the best ones (like Solas), and Bioware would have to deal with complaints of unfairness and lack of representation.

I think DAI had more romances than needed, but I wouldn't want to see them all go.

Cullen and Solas were late additions so I guess LI content for them wouldn't just be added.

If only there was some kind of universally recognized symbol for love we could mark such dialogue options with.

And these are two of my favorite characters. I'm very glad they got included. I enjoy Solas's romance including the ending and Cullen was a nice change from the Solas drama, sadness. Iron Bull makes my female inquisitor laugh, and seeing Dorian and my male inquisitor just makes me happy and I'm planning to replay a Qunari mage for Sera. So along with other reasons to replay the romances just increase my reasons.
For me, the romances have always been the 2nd reason I bought BioWare games before I bought Fall Out or Elder Scrolls, Borderland or any of the other games without romances. They are all good games and I play them, but they were never purchased before a BioWare game.
Who my character decides to romance does help define my character the same way other choices do. I enjoy the dialogue in their games, the 3rd reason I pick them first, and how they have written the romances usually works out well. I loved Jack's romance with my Paragon male Shepard. I was surprised at how much that changed my view of Jack as a character.
If they discontinued them completely I'd miss them. They wouldn't be my first choice any more and while I'd probably still get the game, it would just be another video game that I might or might not replay for years.

The thing is, I specifically play BioWare games because no one else seems to devote resources to creating romances on the same level. They make BioWare games unique and create a degree of emotional investment that I just don't have with other games.

I never strongly attached it to my Bioware "fandom" at first. I barely had a choice in Kotor...I'm a straight guy, and went for the straight chick.. I thought the Bastila romance was tied in well with everything. But back then, I was just more on a Jedi kick. It was a Star Wars RPG. That was unheard of at the time. It had little to do with the romance. It was only interesting that I ended up killing Carth and taking Bastila to the dark side. lol In DAO, I kind of stumbled into Leliana, but liked her. It just wasn't a big hook. I think ME2 was the first that impressed me. because Jack reminded me of someone real.

They'd get lynched though.
One does not come between the Nazg---Waifu warrior and their waifu.
Has no one heard the phrase too much waifu will ruin your laifu? Why waste investment in something that isn't real?

Yes and some BioWare writers would like this as well I would think, however, BioWare games are now known for this and it's assumed they will have them in each game. The reaction would be quite negative imo if they had none at all.

Basically remove romances in favor of a really well done story, Nothing against romances i just sometimes i feel they take away from what the story could be.
Technically, KOTOR2 was like that. The romances were very subdued and mild. Of course, that wasn't developed by Bioware, but still.

Really? I've never been to a different planet, I love Borderland. I've never killed anyone I love being a sniper in Fall Out games. I've never seen a dragon and I've played more than one game where they are included. I've done a lot of things in video games that aren't "real".
For me, this is just one more thing in a video game that makes it fun to play and rounds out my characters personality. And it's always an option not required. I usually have one or two characters that don't romance anyone since I replay their games for years.

And the ending made absolutely no sense. I played it twice. I've heard someone fixed it so I downloaded it, but it freezes up on my computer but may try it again someday. I enjoyed the idea of it and most of the story, but the ending was just too disjointed for my light sided jedi and I've heard it was just about as bad for the dark side.
As much as I disliked ME3's ending, I understood them.

Bit of a disappointment they're all bisexual, but I suppose we have no clue how deep these companions are in the first place.
Skyrim level probably

I think that is a very bad idea; in the real world, people flirt with each other, they find each other attractive, they hit on one another, it's just part of what makes us human. Some people, misguided though they may be, might take you being nice to them as you being sexually attracted to them, it's an honest mistake that many people, especially inexperienced ones, make. The fact that characters in games can make that mistake as well adds to their credibility.
Liara for example, is a very young Asari who is a Prothean nerd when we find her, she has not had much experience with people and as such, she might perceive Shepard's politeness and mild manner towards her to be sexual attraction, it makes sense for her character, and makes her characterization all the better for it.
Just like you can't toggle whether you want someone to hit on you, or be attracted to you in the real world, be they man or woman, you should not have a similar option in the game.
Would you really want to have an option that takes away from the realism of both the characters and the world?

I don't hate the Skyrim style. Don't love it but I don't hate it so while I'm hoping they do a little more in the dialogue area. I enjoyed FANV companion dialogue, I think they are getting a little better with each game without loosing the exploration aspect which is what I've always enjoyed about their games. Have to admit though, I'm not a big fan of - pick a romance, any romance, we all will love you no matter what - relationships.

I agree wholeheartedly, while Skyrim's romances felt quite shallow, I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy them in another way. They need a lot more depth, but considering the breadth of companions you have access to in Skyrim, I guess it makes sense that the romance is not that developed.
I hope that with Fallout 4, Bethesda will have added more to the romance mechanic, to make it feel more fleshed out. I guess we will see soon though.
I still really liked my romance with Farkas tough. ![]()

Haven't read all responses.
personally I love romances in Bioware games - they make me want to replay multiple times to do other romances and explore their plots. I think they only add to the story. I'm not overly bothered about actual sex scenes - really in ME the only ones you get were with humans anyway - but I do enjoy the romance story.
