So I finally started playing her today for the first real time. I've tried to follow the DPS builds. However, I'm underwhelmed. I know she's great at support, but I just want to blow **** up. AB 3k? Seriously? That's it? I've been running her on Perilous (my sincere apologies to the ppl I played with today  :D ). This will get me nowhere fast in NM. ATM, I'm using AL, AB, AR, and BB. I do like the BB finisher...does quite a bit of damage.

My gear consists of the Hakkon staff, Superb WIllpower Ammy, Health belt, and Crit Damage rings. I'm not yet ready to strap on a Pact belt. Is she really that dependent upon promotes to do serious damage? I crit higher with chain lightning + belt. What am I doing wrong? Please advise...

Yes, she does need a good number of promotions to dps, unless you have a elemental belt and another barrier bot babysitting you. Try to max out crit dmg on your staff if you have high enough cunning or willpower if you don't. Might need a fallback plan if you encounter elemental resistances to opening stance of athlok burst.

Waiting for the promotion scrub lords to reign on the parade and tell me it's not about the promotions but the "strat skills" and teamwork.

No I agree. Without promotions she is difficult to do DPS without dying. You are correct on that Flow. Definitely what he said on the crit damage, helps a ton. I strap a Pact Belt, I also have lots of constitution so I'm fine. I throw on Heart of Pride as well to do fast, hard hitting damage. That's just me personally because I use the explosion ability (the one centered around yourself)

Gear, build and playstyle not optimized. L2P first. State your actual gear upgrades, weapon upgrades on staff, stats and screenshot your actual build.

is one place to look for guidance.

Just the opposite. the promotion scrub lords are the ones that say promotes are everything. I'm the one that says you suck because promotes are only one part of the equation.

Who needs promotes though when you can hack/glitch/exploit/trick the game engine?

This just reminds me how OP one could be... I saw a top leaderboarder one shotting NM mobs with finish stance IA explosion

I compared that damage to my anthlok burst damage and thought, oh well, not playing dps saarebas any more until I get a few hundreds of willpower.

As others have said before, promotions are very useful, especially if you are using one of the Pact belts.  If you want to really do good damage, then you will need to use a Pact belt.

I find a fire build to be the best at out and out killing everything as quickly as possible.  I jump in with the finisher from Leap, then use Athlok Burst opener, Ring as flow, repeat.  Generally everything but elite mobs (even those might not last that long) and enemies with fire resistance are dead within one cycle.  I rely on Guardian Spirit to keep me up until the From Knowledge, Strength kicks in with extra max health.

The down side to using something like this is the chance to roll a faction with immunities to whatever element you are using.  Qunari can really throw a monkey wrench into this build.

One alternative is using a Storm Pact build.  That has the upside of ranged combat more than jumping right into the fray, but the downside of doing less damage.  And zone 3 of Venatori. ****ing electrical Spellbinders!

Another alternative is a Winter Pact build, using Athlok finisher to freeze and shatter for most of your damage.  It doesn't kill as quickly, and you do have to be close to the action, but you can keep most things locked in a perpetual deep-freeze.

I'll grind my willpower to let's say 200,when I'll start to play here more intensively.

I tried some of the builds available here, but my damage was pitiful on NM,that I decided to play her only up to Perilous.

I've got 30+ promotions on the Saarebas and I still don't have 200 willpower.  Maybe your crit chance isn't high enough?

Sara is a DPS because of the Pact Belt. Rogues don't get to wear those.

Get carried by a keeper and DPS away. Otherwise play some crappy build like mine

Storm pact belt

Electric build with electric opener (keeps you out danger for a second or two if you are low on promotes)

No need for 4th ability unless your are fighting dragons (curse ability)

Focus on your passives

Enough said... have fun!

If you are still dying alot consider dropping down a difficulty and replacing curse with barrier

-- My personal build is this --

Skills:

  • Athlok Burst
  • Glyphs of the Aqun
  • Itwa-Adim Explosion (upgraded)
  • Asaara's Leap (upgraded)

Items:

  • Hakkon's Wisdom or Heart of Pride or whatever is your best LIGHTNING staff
  • Heal on Kill (on whatever you can afford, 20-30% is more than enough for Nightmare so I guess 10-20% on Perilous)
  • Inferno pact belt (optional)
  • Pysical Immunity amulet (optional) (yeah, I've said "optional" ;) )
  • As much Critical Chance as you can until 70% then switch to Critical Damage

Strategy:

  • No faction is immune to Fire AND Lightning so you're safe using this even on Nightmare
  • At the start of the match, cast Lightning Glyph on you so you can evade 1 hit every 10 seconds and get 25% movement speed
  • If the enemy is far
    • Open with Itwa-Adim for AOE Lightning damage
    • Follow with Itwa-Adim for Fire damage and AOE Fear
    • Finish with Asaara's Leap to get near the enemies
  • If the enemy is close (and whatever isn't immune to Fire)
    • Open with Athlok Burst for AOE Fire damage
    • Follow with either Itwa-Adim for Fire damage and AOE Fear OR Athlok Burst for "pull" effect
    • Finish with Asaara's Leap to target either a far enemy or kill whatever has been pulled to you
  • If an enemy is immune to Fire
    • Open with Itwa-Adim for Lightning damage or Asaara's Leap for Cold damage (small AOE)
    • Follow with either Asaara's Leap for Lightning damage (small AOE) or Athlok Burst for "pull effect"
    • Finish with Athlok Burst for AOE Cold damage and Freeze
    • Since you should have a Lightning staff, the passive "In Knowledge, Power" should give you good damage from auto-attacks
  • Use Asaara's Leap 1st stance to get out of the way when needed
  • Additional Notes:
    • No, you won't be using much the Athlok Burst 3rd stance so there's no real need to take the upgrade
    • The animations are all "fast" enough which means Heart of Pride is NOT required
    • Your survival is about your mobility and dealing great AOE burst of damage when not moving
    • The passive "From Power, Mastery" is very very useful
    • The passive "From Ignorance, Weakness" is NOT required, take it if you have nothing else to get
    • The passive "With Strength, Endurance" is very useful

Everything else is trials and errors. It works wonderfully on all difficulties, except maybe HeartBreaker.

That's my favourite damage build too! :D The only difference for me is that it works great for me only for Peri, not for NM. There, if so much as an enemy looks in my direction -> dead.

Thanks! A good build is what I'm looking for. I've been using the build in my op to get used to her. It's ok, but something is missing...this may do the trick. I have learned how not to die in perilous, which is good. I'm still getting used to the mobility and being able to modify the attack sequence on the fly. It's definitely getting easier. Not sure what happened, but I'm getting a lot more damage too. Still not quite there yet, but I'm working on it.
