I am still playing after maxing my manifest and still having fun.

Yet I have to admit that the credits-incentive and "grinding for new gear"

has been really fun. Especially at the beginning (= first 500 hours).

Consequently, I should have a little less fun now. Probably this is true.

Others lose complete interest in this game without the grinding aspect.

How about you, how important is the rewarding system for you.

How much do you like the core-game and its gameplay ?

... and compared to other games? for example DAI.

I find the rewarding system great, and while maxing a manifest is a serious grind, the journey getting there is awesome and very rewarding, mostly due to the progressive loot system. For instance, while one may struggle to obtain a Lancer X, but one will still obtain a Lancer I on his/her way to that goal and feel reward with each upgrade.
Besides, one has no reason to stop playing ME3MP after one has obtained a maxed manifest. The possibilities for builds and playstyle are almost limitless (at least for Gold and below) and it is a ridiculous fun game with friends and as far as pugging goes, if anything, it is not region lock, unlike DAMP. I personally played more ME3MP after maxing my manifest than I had played before it, and I plan to come back, when/if DAMP dies for good.

DAMP reward system is just inferior, no comparison. Loot is ridiculous, even worse after they added the Level 27 items. Promotions are fun to grind, after all it is always fun to be overpowered. But they get to a point they may ruin the game. Anyway, you have played DAMP, you get the idea  ;)

Do you think I deserve a Venom 3 upgrade for playing Platinum Geth wave 2 where there are 3 active Primes at once? Damn right.

Without the CP system I would probably have quit a long time ago, but then again I'm the kind of player that easily comes addicted to accumulating as much points as possible in these type of games.

Luckily though I'm not quite as addicted as I was with grinding achievement points in WoW some years ago......

Gameplay is more important. How is that even a question?

I don't really need the reward system to play this game. I usually just make up goals in this game. Like become the best, at using a particular kit in your gaming platform, and I feel I've accomplished that with the volus mercenary after playing him a lot in pug games, showing why he's so good. Now doing the same thing with the N7 shadow, which I've been playing a lot lately, and making a lot of mistakes, and trying to fix them, so I can be a better player at using the N7 Shadow.

Although may come back to playing the volus mercenary sooner or later eventually.

first and formost I play for fun

but at first it was also about maxing the manifest and completing all the masteries

but now I check which challenge I would like to complete (never got the tech armor one for instance) or which mastery I would like to complete again... and again... or which kit I have never really played etc.

don't get me started about DAIMP ^^ (worse loot system, sh!tty matchmaking/region lock, NO repeatable challenges, almost 0% chance to "max" the manifest, only 4 maps, only 17 chars)

so OT: yes, it helps to keep playing if you get rewards for it

I think the game becomes more fun after maxing one's manifest (which was a tedious and often frustrating grind).  I like the challenge point thing--it keeps me trying weapons and kits I haven't played for a while.  Also doing more solos lately has made it stay interesting.  It's just a great game with such depth.   Waiting for Fallout 4  (10 days)!

When I first started playing it was all about the achievements; I started out with the goal of getting BOTB as quickly as possible.

Then I got it, and I got bored.

Now I just play to find people that actually talk and then help them as much as possible. ME3MP; the poor person's social interaction.

For me gameplay matters much more than what that gameplay generates.

I actually found the trollstore diminished certain aspects that I enjoy about the gameplay. I don't like upgrading at virtually complete random chance. It was frustrating and a waste of time. The only thing that kept me coming back was that I actually enjoyed the game itself.

Andromeda will have to impress the hell out of me if there's a trollstore again. There will be a lot of hefty contenders for my limited free time. I said back when Andromeda was announced that if there's a trollstore, I won't be purchasing the title, at all. SP nor MP. They won't make a dime off me if they re-implement trollstore. Still sticking to that.

CP and N7 I honestly couldn't care less about. Ever since completing BotB I don't go for any specific challenges, they just sort of complete themselves. Mostly faction challenges, map mastery and the occasional weapon challenge. For promotions I have the amount needed for BotB with like 3 more or so more on top because I ran out of power reset cards. If anything I'd say some of the challenge grind could be tuned down a bit. Some of the 200 wave challenges were a serious kick in the dick to complete.

Manifest grind was pretty good though. It made me play with a lot of weapons and kits I otherwise wouldn't have tried and look forward to unlocking new ones.

I liked how DAI went about with their challenge system and the whole banner/title/portrait customization, that was pretty cool. DAIs RNG store was stupid though and had no real sense of progression. I had end game gear (well, end game at the time) by about 150 hours in, and once I had that, what was left? Without much weapon and build variety, DAIs end game is basically playing the same handful of characters and grinding promotions. Bleh.

I guess what I mean to say is that gameplay is what keeps me playing this game and any game really. Rewards are a nice bonus but aren't necessary.

Yes, I like gambling and improving my manifest

Rolled a Venom X last night, down to 3 URs to go (2 x Lancer, 1x BPP)

This is one area where DAI screwed up, once you get an items, that's it, you can keep rolling it with no upgrade

Certain rewards (FemShep BotB) were very motivating for me. I still like getting CPs and finishing challenges. The challenge system got me to try kits and weapons that were outside my comfort zone, which turned out to be fun. Finally, playing with all the fun people I met kept me playing after I no longer got black cards from the troll store. All of it together (even the troll store) kept me playing 3 years and 2800+ hours later.

I have my maxed main account and an alt account that still needs weapons and such, but I stopped playing for a long while because of the all other games that I needed/wanted to play.

I play the MP with my SO pretty much every weekend for the nostalgia, and I use my main account not my alt, so to each their own. We all have our reasons for playing in which we find rewarding. ^_^

I personally don't need the reward system to play this game. But since it is there, I would prefer it if the shop didn't suck. 100% pure rng is kinda ass.

I think the cp points were a great addition, and defiantly increased the games life for most people, at least until they had botb which took about hundred hours or more.

And the loot system was good, but when your waiting for just your URs to get to X was a bit excessive and should have been sped up somehow. 900 hours and still not maxed is excessive really.

But the variety of builds and characters and weapons and gear and consumables and maps and enemies and stuff made it almost limitless, and I think they should of not put in respec cards at all, because that would force you promote and then you would try new builds for the other 7 characters in that class. :)

The trollstore isn't any kind of reward system, it's a psychological trick like the lottery, tempting players with the hope of prizes even though they know the numbers are against them.  One could argue that it's worse than the lottery because it deprives players of content to which they are entitled by virtue of paying for the game.  It could have been made slightly less annoying by prioritizing unlocks over level-ups.

(Or, in other words: give me my Indra already, darnit).

The CP system has me sucked right in though, I like watching that number go up :)  There are limits though, personally a BotB banner is no kind of incentive because of the colossal amount of grinding required, and I certainly can't be bothered with gitting gud enough to solo Gold.  That sounds like work, not a game.

Primarily, I play this game because shooting Rippahs is fun :D  CP is a sideshow, not the main event.

Game? I'm not sure what you mean.

But I do hope to save up enough Challenge Points to get myself something nice.
