How the hell does Witcher 3 beat Pillars of Eternity and Life is Strange for best Storytelling?

Heck how does "Saving Kate" in Life is Strange not win Best Gaming Moment? (though personally I'd have voted for the Fingergun FIght from Tales from the Borderlands

Pillars is PC only, and Life is Strange suffered from a polarizing ending. I'm not surprised, even though W3's base-game writing was plenty problematic.

Yeah I liked life is strange but the narrative does have a few issues.

I am well aware of all the information provided to my comments. I don't live in a cave in the middle of no where unaware of gaming news.

Yes, Yes, DAI won all these awards. Big freaking deal. Its not like they had much wiggle room of giving out rewards to the others. I love the fact how people are so quick to defend DAI with the comment, "They won so many rewards." Just because an actor/actress wins an Oscar does not mean I like them nor the movie they were in. All it shows is some big wig thought they deserved it based on their own opinion. Many may share that same opinion but there are just as many who do not.

Basing a game on how good it is just on whatever rewards it has received is a poor way to properly reviewing said game. I've played many games that never got a signal reward but were better then DAI.

Whatever The Witcher 3 was going to be, it feels like the developers cut and rearrange things to polish the story as best as they could. Where as with DAI they cut far too much thus leaving the game feeling empty and more like an MMO.

I don't hate DAI. Its a decent game. I am more disappointed that the game could have been much more if they had given themselves at least one more year of development time.

It's a shaky but generally really solid narrative, until you get to the final episode.

Unsurprising results.

Yep.

Indeed. Witcher 3 was very opportunely placed for this round of awards. That's the logic used for Inquisition's accolades, right?

It makes you think, doesn't it? Had DAI been released in 2015, how many awards would've actually won then?

Well that has always been my argument but whenever I brought it up, people would call me a troll and that I didn't know what I was talking about. I always said that DAI only got GOTY cause it #1 was in a weak year for gaming and #2 it was a novelty, the fact that it was the first AAA Next Gen RPG to be released gave it a sort of aura that you just had to see for yourself. Now that TW3 is out and FO4 is around the corner, the lure of DAI isn't as strong as it once was cause we now have other AAA next gen RPG games to look at/play.

But yeah, had DAI released early 2015 instead of late 2014, DAI could have had a very different history and no, it would NOT have gotten 130+ GOTY awards this year over Halo 5, Fallout 4, Batman, Witcher 3, and MGS5. In fact, I don't see ANY game this year getting 130+ GOTY awards which just goes to show you have strong 2015 is and how weak 2014 was.

Well, sure, because that's typically how products work. New stuff draws more attention than older stuff.

Exactly my point! This logic is was a major reason why DAI was so popular in late 2014 and thus swept the 2014 GOTY awards.

Like I said......it was a novelty.

Now I just hope that Bioware understands this and not let those 130+ GOTY awards get to their head and realize DAI was a game that had many flaws and that DA4 needs to be a step in the right direction and not a copy & paste of DAI.

I agree, the competition in that list was rather weak.

I don't think Bioware, nor most of DAI's fans, has ever been under the illusion that DAI was flawless or that they should just directly copy it for a sequel.

Saying that new attracts more attention than the old isn't the same as saying that the popular appeal of DAI was mostly novelty.

Missed the point, sir. The luster of Witcher 3 will have also faded by next year, like all products do with time, and hopefully CDPR won't take their inflated sales during a dead release window (and some awards) as an indication that they didn't have some severe narrative pacing and consistency issues, due in large part to its own open-world failures. Cyberpunk 2077 will be a vastly better game if they listen to those critiques.

To compare the 2014 DICE Award to this one seems a tad off. Congrats on the wins for TW3 for this trophy, but it ain't close to the same thing.

I'd say the entire field has its share of weaknesses, especially if a game whose plot resembles that of Super Mario Bros. wins for best storytelling above that of last year's deserving gaming victor.

Nothing "steamy" and what is there is entirely optional.

Of course they aren't the same thing. This award was voted on by the consumers.

Besides, haven't you been following what people in this thread have been saying? 2014 was a weak year in gaming so winning a 2014 GOTY award DICE or not is nothing to brag about. I mean, I doubt DAI would have gotten that DICE award had it released this year.

So yeah, congratz to winning 2014 GOTY award. That is like bragging that your football team won the WAC Conference championship which does not have the same level of quality teams as those in say......the SEC conference.

Repeating opinions on weak and strong titles does not make it factual. It remains an opinion.

What can I say? It's fun, and it's easy to poke holes in the superiority complex of certain CDPR zealots. Because, you know, it's entirely true. :)

Just like it was "opinion" of those experts/panelist that voted DAI as DICE GOTY? Or was that fact? Is it only an opinion if it doesn't match your thoughts and a fact if it does?

Look, I know you know what we are talking about, you are just being difficult for the sake of being difficult and unwilling to admit that DAI swept the 2014 GOTYs largely because it was a weak year and that DAI was the 1st to the market in terms of AAA next gen RPG games. It is not an opinion that 2014 was a weak year but fact.
