ME2 is a radical difference and I have a lot to say about that, but it IS the better game.

Both are obviously developed for the twitch FPS consumers. I don't see why after playing the first one you would buy the second one expecting something other than a FPS with a good story.

*Better combat system
*More diversity in classes
*I don't have to spend 20 minutes converting 100 items into Omnigel every mission
*More diverse and colorful characters
*More customization with default armor
*No more barren planets to trek about
*Finally hired more architects to design buildings

Neither mass effect is a twitch shooter at all.
mass effect is a tactical third person shooter, the second one moreso with the new enemies and what not.

ME1 was a much better RPG, while ME2 is a much better shooter.
ME2 is much more linear than ME1 was (no Mako) and there is really no exploration. That is a pretty bad part of nearly all of BioWare's games. That said, there are much fewer breaks in the action (action and combat are two different things) which, for the most part, is an improvement.
There are many more aspects of both games that separate ME2 from ME1 and don't necessarily make it better or worse (they just differentiate the games) but I won't get into all of them because I really feel like playing now.

We just have to give them time to chill out and explore the true beauty of ME2.
Remember all those people crawling on ME1's boards after the release? OMG OMG IT'S NOT BALDUR'S GATE IN SPACE, RUN FER YER LIVES!!!
Well, there are things I miss. A lot. There are things, that shouldn't have been change. A lot of them. There are things, I'd made differently. Again, a lot of them.
But Mass Effect 2 is a better game than the first one. Don't forget to look upon all the improvements (and I'm not speaking about the combat here).
Or replay the first one and then jump into the second game. Then look at the storytelling, the world you're dropped into and the character progression, character depth.
You'll find that ME2 is as much (if not more) RPG in these aspects as the first one.
Those are the important things. Or do points really matter that lot? For some people certainly. But in my opnion, the character-driven, beautyful, sometimes touching storytelling is _everything_ when it comes to BioWare games.
Baldur's Gate 2 was -at least for me- the etalon of RPGs. It's a good old fashioned hardcore RPG. Mass Effect is something different. The first one was different, the second one is different, and yeah, the end of the story will be different. You accepted it long ago if you call yourself a Mass Effect fan.
And hey, people, let's accept the fact: Mass Effect 2 is not Mass Effect 1.
That's all. There are changes: some of them good, some of them... well, not so good.
But it drives the character-shaping (payed attention to all the little details your personal playthrough importing carries?), character-depth, storytelling to a whole another scale.
So kudos to BioWare for raising the game to another level.

This forum has truly gone to hell, I actually dread coming here. Stupid web addiction.
Yeah, I'm begging to get the game and have permission to write on the spoiler allowed forum.
Amost all complaints are written by people who have not officially registered the game. Strange coincidence, I guess

I'm sick of these posts. Stop whining. If you don't like the game sell it back to gamestop or whatever. I don't care. It's an awesome game and I feel sorry for you if you don't enjoy it.

AMEN!
Still, some things are worth critisizing because they basically completely REMOVED things that needed IMPROVEMENT in Mass Effect 1. Think inventory, Mako, overheating (replaced by a boring reloading system which makes you scurry for ammo clips during every fight), planet exploration.
It's not a crime to point out things BioWare did bad. They're not gods. Yes, Mass Effect 2 is a great game and I'm enjoying it. Doesn't mean it's perfect. Period.
As for the OP... your Wall of Text critted me for 20k. I'm dead. One-shotted. Couldn't read it.

How was the first one twitch based? You aimed at your target and there was still a roll to see if you hit...

Of course, I haven't finished it yet. It could still pull a KOTOR 2.

I love ME1... and I think ME2 improved on it in almost every way (aside from having to wear a helmet with any DLC armor).
*Better combat system
*More diversity in classes

*More diverse and colorful characters
*More customization with default armor
*No more barren planets to trek about
*Finally hired more architects to design buildings
Are you saying there's more diversity between classes or within classes?
Everyone agrees the old inventory system was bad but it could have easily been improved instead of removed.
Why do I need to be stuck simpoly moding the default armor?
Yes planet exploration was bad but once again could have been improved.

can't sell a PC game back to Game Stop.
Not that I would, I'm still determined to have fun in ME2 and believe it will have just as great a story as the first one but there are a lot of things missing that I really enjoyed in ME1 and I'm guessing in the end I will prefer that one.
