I'm starting to think the only way to make some people happy would have been to just re-release ME1 again with better graphics and call it ME2.

Then I suggest you let the others do the thinking.

I'm thinking most people on this board who are "complaining" about Mass Effect 2 wanted to see the Mass Effect 1 issues improved, not removed.

Yes. That makes perfect sense.

Given EA's involvement, I'm actually surprised by how much Mass Effect hasn't been ruined.

Of course, I haven't finished it yet.  It could still pull a KOTOR 2.

Oh god, please don't remind me.  And damnit, where's my KOTOR 3!!!!

The only way for some people to be happy is for them to move on to another game. If you don't like a game or the experience of playing it the solution is obvious, don't play it. Oh right, for some whingeing on a forum is the most fun they have playing any game.

No we want ME2 with improved ME1 gameplay, not gutted mechanics that could have easily been improved.

Or we feel we are allowed to voice or dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the game in hopes that they will be fixed in ME3, it worked with the combat.

People who loved The Matrix, don't like the second and simply hate the third because that one is simply hidious shouldn't watch the second and the third. True. But after part one they were looking forward to the second and the third. Then they get disappointed. Then they want to let their disappointed be known. This is completely logical and they have the right to do so. Then, of course, there are the people who tell them the movies are great and the complainers should **** off. Those people should CHILL DOWN, because it is them, and not the complainers, who add nothing of worth to the topic.

8 out of 10 "complainers" I've seen posting so far have done so in a civilized manner and it's the "SHUT UP YOU TROLL" good-doers who are tainting my eyes with their beastial nature.

Okay, so your unhappy with the way the game turned out. That's fine, everyone's entitled to their own stupid opinion. The thing is, what is complaining about it going to do? What are you hoping to get out of this? You think they're going to remake the game because your unsatisfied? I may add nothing of worth to this topic but that's only because this topic is worthless to begin with.

Good thing KotOR 2 wasn't a Bioware flub-up eh? ;) That was done by Obsidian, not Bioware.

I wanted ME 2  to be different. Not improved. Imrpoved means better, but essentially the same. That killed the Halo series for me. It got better, but it stayed the same. Why do you think Halo 3  was so..."average"? Hell, even Halo 2 was just "good", but Halo was "amazing".
12 karat gold versus 16 karat gold. It's still gold, just improved quality.

I don't understand.

I think Bioware was pretty clear about the direction they were going with regarding ME. It was a hybrid, and now it is even more so one with ME2 with greater simplicity regarding leveling, class building, and the non "personality" related elements of role playing. Thus, I think you had the information you needed to make an informed choice about game play and setting. I am sorry some of you were disappointed, but I don't understand why you got into that position given the information they kept giving.

I played ME1. But, I always knew I wasn't going to touch ME2 based on the info Bioware gave me. And I am happy with that choice because I know there are a LOT of people who enjoy precisely what they are offering with ME2 - a story rich cinematic experience that is intended to be more spontaneous than class strategic and they are probably having the time of their lives with this game. This game was intended for THEM. No?

Yep - Bioware was pretty transparent about alot of the changes - and in truth, when you read the boards and look at what people said about ME1, alot of this was because the fans cried out for changes.

Granted some of them are debatable [squad customization lacking, the complete removal of inventory] but ME2 is a straight up upgrade and amazing progression from ME1. ME1 is still fantastic, but it had too much downtime with inventory and pointless gear swapping, coupled with the way too generic/time consuming planet exploring.

While I think some of the new systems in ME2 need improving, we're on the right path - my opinion of course, but I find some of the belly aching to be a touch overdone. Course, some of the "overzealous" defenders aren't helping the fanbase either -_-

I love having the next chapter to play in the ME universe. But I think they simplified a bit to much. I kinda miss the modular (weapon/armor) system, fooling around finding equipment/armor for my favorite team mates etc etc.

More mainstream I guess and easier to sell ... I hope they just don't dumb it down even more in ME3.

Structure your posts better and maybe then I'd understand. It sounded like you were unhappy with the game. I may be wrong. If so, I take back what I said.

Your comment about how people who choose to defend the game on a thread dedicated to bashing said game are "complainers" is really flawed. If it wasn't for us, you guys would have no one to whine to, seeing as the Devs ignore these threads anyway.

I think feeling a little heated in these forums at the moment.

I'm in the UK so haven't even played the game yet, but what I'm seeing here is two distinct camps forming.

As Imported_beer stated they Bioware were making clear their intentions about ME2 from the very beginning. They said that they were taking it into a different direction and that they were going to change a lot of mechanics. They even previewed the leveling system in one of the vids so this comes as almost no surprise.

Mass Effect stands alone. Almost genre-less, both the first and, (based on what I have read) the second one. It shouldn't be held up to the merits of one particular genre, but rather celebrated or critiqued based on it's own merits and short comings.

The old forums used to be a place for debate and its members were (on the whole) civilized to one another. All I'm seeing here is hate followed by the knee-jerk reaction of defense from the games fans.

If you post your dislike of the game in the games own forums then you have the expect the fans to contradict you, and as the game is new emotions are running high, leading to 'trolling' accusations.

At the end of it all people are saying that 'bioware broke mass effect' and the like. Well the news is is that it is their game to break. Nobody forced you to buy it, nobody asked you to. There is nothing to stop you from returning to the store that you purchased it from or trading it in for a title that you will enjoy. If you wish the leave good constructive feed back I imagine that this is to be encouraged and the community should respond in kind. Other wise leave the hate speeches that you know will evoke and emotive response away from these boards.

I'm sorry to rant like this, and this is not per se aimed at the original poster, but there have been so many of these threads and I am annoyed by the childish complaints and the insane defence they evoke.

Perhaps they did,but Bioware decided to go in another direction.

Not much they can do about it and at this point,I don't think Mass effect 3 will be what they want either.I do think complaining about it is a complete waste of time, but that's me.

What people expected was an Unchared-Uncharted 2 improvement. What we got was the Xenosaga 1-2 debacle.

Too bad this complete overhaul was a step backwards in so many ways. ME1 feels like the improved sequel and ME2 was the "good" starting point.
