Honestly, the only reason why I want to be a Dalish Elf is for my DA4 PC to spite Solas.

Honestly, I think it's equally possible for an elven protagonist next game to be Dalish or city elf.

While the Dalish avoid Tevinter like quick sand, it's still technically possible for them to get attacked and captured by slavers outside Tevinter and then sold into their borders. I think it's just as possible to play an elf with a Dalish background who was captured and sold into slavery as a city elf who's been a Tevinter slave/servant all his/her life.

Personally, I'm not too particular. I love elves regardless of their cultural background. Although I'm slightly more fond of city elves than Dalish elves, I'll be happy to play an elf no matter what.

When does he make that clear? Why do (some, any) elves of the Inquisition, the ones we'd expect to be the most compassionate, open-minded and ethical of the lot, the ones who just pulled everyone's fat out of the Coryphish fire, regardless of race, want to join him?

The idea that Solas hates all modern elves just doesn't make sense in the face of that fact of lore.

He certainly thinks modern elves are degenerate and that Dalish are foolish on top of that. No question. But it doesn't follow that he wants to annihilate all of them. He wants to save them. Plus, he carries a weight of guilt for having brought them low in the first place. He wants to make amends by restoring them.

Yes, he sees people who do not have direct access to the Fade as missing something vital, little more than animals. So, tearing down the Veil fixes that problem. The elves under his guidance and protection will learn to wield the Fade the same way as the elves of yore. Everyone else can fend for themselves and probably most will die.

When you tell Solas that Briala can help his people, it takes him a moment to associate that with the modern ones."My people...? Ohh, you mean elves!"

He thinks the same way as Abelas. The ancient elves are his people and no one else.

I can't blame them, though. Fereldans and Orlesians are both humans but do they feel like they are the same? Not a chance.

Really. There is a great gap between these elves wanting to join Solas and the latter accepting their request. At best, they'll be useful puppets.

I don't see why not? Qunari have -so far- been antagonists and we get to play one, so I doubt something as important as Elves will be blocked simply due to Elves flocking to Solas.

In the end, race won't matter too much outside of a few extra dialogue

I hope so but City elf to balance out the 2-1 the Dalish PC has on City elf PC

Nah, my playing of a Dalish elf has to do with romancing to simply spite him. So he knows that someone out there doesn't want him to destroy the world, and it's his own lover...
