Morrigan's storyline isn't done yet.

She will be back at least one more time.

So far Morrigan's story was completely optional, since it is possible to minimize her role in DAO and render her not relevant
(some of my Wardens did when i focused the story on Loghain).
In DAI 'm unsure as she is there since again her story is optional, the well of sorrow doesn't need specifically her,and Solas is perfectly capable to advice us in the Mythal temple and if the OGB does not exsist Flemeth has no reason to want  to met  her without the well of sorrow..
DA had a few mandatory characters story (Isabela,Anders,Solas) all the others plotline are completely optional.

I'd be happy with a completely new cast for the most part.

Yes. To keep him safe for harm.

Don't worry as king or as a warden or as a drunk his destiny is already signed and is unchanged ,a royal ghoul.

It's a shame that so much of this thread was really just "who do you dislike." I've enjoyed reading the arguments that go beyond personal preferences -- especially where people disagree on the extent to which a character's arc is or is not sufficiently wrapped.

Cole, Sera, and Iron bull are nearly totally ignored in my games.  I feel these 3 characters were desperate attempts to find something different that fell flat on it's face.

Ironically, probably my three favorite characters in the game.

It seems to me that anyone wishing for the divine (whoever she is) not to appear at all is virtually guaranteed disappointment.

I'm not sure that's the case. If we're moving to northern Thedas, odds of encountering the leader of the Southern Chantry are vanishingly small. Even if she were inclined to handle matters personally, the risk to her person would be staggering. It's likely that she'll be referenced (as Divine Victoria, a name all three use), but I would not count on a personal appearance. Agents are far more likely. Plus, that assumes that she's even still alive. No matter who's on the Sunburst Throne at the end of Trespasser, they have enemies. It's entirely possible that Divine Victoria may have been assassinated or met with some other fate.

That's actually one of the benefits of moving to a vastly different geographical area. It reduces the number of characters who might otherwise be expected to make an appearance. We won't be meeting the Divine, or any Southern royalty. If Gaspard is exiled, there's a chance we might encounter him, but I wouldn't count on it. It presents a splendid opportunity to make a clean break and start with a universal "baseline" world state.

I'll still be surprised if the major plot points (like the chantry situation and the mage situation) are not picked up in the next game, but that's a reasonable argument.

Sandal really, great enchanter, useful and great character.
Never again Bioware,understood?
My Warden armors are superior to the one of the Inquisitor because of enchanter Sandal.
No Sandal&Bodhan no party
everyone else may go rotten to the afterlife

I honestly hope they aren't. for the games sake.

The way the Mage/Templar war was bungled along with the War of the Lions just makes me want it to all be over.

You may be the first person I've ever seen to actually say "I sure hope they don't resolve major plot points."

But it sounds like your objection in DAI isn't what it covered but how it covered those things. I'll admit that the mage/templar war portion of the game seems overly hasty, but then my problem would be without execution of the content, not with the plan to include it.

Only even quasi-satisfying way they could avoid bringing in the major points of this game would be to set the next game far enough in the future that it's history. But even then, they'd be expected to provide decently thorough coverage of what happened in the interim somewhere. Maybe it'd be good fodder for a book or something. But it has to get addressed somewhere, and I think expecting it in the next game is reasonable until an alternative arises.

Surprise then?

From the conclave to the factions themselves, I sort of lost taste for the entire plot line. Execution of it anyway, but yes I'd hope they'd leave those issues and their kindergarten understanding of sociology and warfare where it fell prior.

Let the next game actually be focused around something they actually do competently, play to their strengths. They aren't Projekt RED, no need to pretend they are.

In fairness, CDPR also has Sapkowski to draw from.

Whichever character BW decides to include, they should also make up their minds on how the character looks like instead of giving me a chargen screen mid-conversation out of the blue. That experience was even worse than reading 'recommended for level 4-7' on my in-game wartable scrolls.

Depends on who's the protagonist. If it's the Inquisitor I'm fine with everyone coming back (within reason) but if not the Inquisitor I really don't want to see any past companions/main characters. (people like Harding are A-OK tho).

Honestly, pretty much most of the characters from the first three games. I'd like an entirely (or mostly) new cast. It's not because I don't like any of the characters (on the contrary), it's because to me Dragon Age is more of it's own universe versus a recurring saga. Aside from inevitable characters like Solas and Morrigan, I'd rather not see most of the cast.

Those I really don't want to see at all though are:

-Leliana (outstayed her welcome, three games already...she needs to stay in the spymaster tower)

-Anders (my most disliked DA character of all time...so far)

-Cassandra (Inquisition was pretty much her spotlight)

-Alistair (never really liked him)

-Varric (especially not as a companion, we need a new dwarf companion)

-Any of the PCs (Warden, Hawke, Inquisitor), let them rest or retire in peace

-Cullen (like Leliana...he had enough significance)

-Blackwall (did not like him)

-Cole (one of my least favorite companions, I'd rather he not show up again)

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the Inquisition debuting NPCs (Josephine, Ser Barris (if alive), Scout Harding, Otranto, Bianca, Krem (if alive)) so long as they aren't hand waved into getting a bigger role for the sake of being a fan favorite.

Irrelevant the main plot, yes. But her character arc is incomplete as there's a lot of issues between her and Flemeth.

No more Sera, Merrill, Anders, Alsitair, Stroud, Loghain, Corypheus, Hawke (CoK surviving sibling ok) at all, I've had more than enough of them, or they are dead in at least one of my playthroughs.

Cameo only: Inquisitor, Flemeth/Mythal, Varric,  Cassandra, Leliana, Vivienne.

Hope for playable/Party member. Cullen, Iron Bull, Harding.

Involved but, not playable/party member: Solas, Dorian, Sten (DAO).

Anyone else can be there or not, doesn't matter to me. Not that I have any hope of getting everyone I want where I want them but hey, I can dream until I can buy DA4. :)

I think we could see Dorian, Fenris and Shale in DA4 and I'd be okay with that. As for everbody else, as long as they have a legitimate reason for being in Tevinter, I wouldn't mind seeing any of them again.

For Companions, no one, totally new cast. Returning Companions makes the world seem small to me, and squanders unused potential. Plus, when a Companion does comes back, they run the risk of regressing (Ohgren), bringing very little that's new to the table (Varric), or being butchered complettely (Anders and Justice).

Oh, and no Calpernia; aside from the fact that she can die, I didn't find her all that interesting. Plus, since Maevaris is more likely as the "reform" Companion, adding Calpernia would mean one less spot for an Imperial Preist, a renegade Elven mage, a Tal-Vashoth Saarebas, a Demon/Spirit,a Titan-touched Dwarf,...

I would love to see my favorite sassy Tevinter Mage again, and it wouldn't hurt to know if Calpernia escaped her ex-boss as well. I really hope we don't get a former companion from Inquisition into the next game because i felt the ending in Trespasser was good farewell to them (not that i mind the occasional refrence and cameo). That being said i hope we don't run into Blackwall, not hating on him i just found him to be bland and boring it would be a waste to me just meeting him again.

Morrigan: I used to love her but then the temple of Mythal happened and now I'm completely tired of her. I didn't let her drink from the Well (and never will) so what reason would she have to return?

Alistair: I didn't like him in the comics. If the next game is going to happen in Tevinter then there is no point to bring him back just for another small cameo.

Michel De Chevin: he is dead and should stay that way. If some crazy demon possessed his body and turned him into a complete maniac then that could be funny...

Calpernia: but only IF there is no consequences to her actions in Inquisition. She should not just get away with her crimes. There needs to be some punishment. If that is done then I can accept her returning and would even be interested in her as companion.

Valta: I really don't like the idea of dwarven magic. I wouldn't be very sad if she just disappeared and we never hear from her again...
