Short-bow versus long-bow?  Is the short-bow superior in any way?  (More rapid fire perhaps?)  Or given the choice between the two, do you always go long-bow because of greater range and damage?  Also, the crossbow does more damage than a long-bow, but takes longer to fire.  My assumption is that unless your able to keep your distance from the enemy, the long-bow is the better weapon.  Or am I missing something?

Short-bows are much inferior and the only thing they are good for is putting them in junk for the next time you hit Bodahn. and it's not like the game is giving you any guesses with all those unique longbows.

I'd assume you finished the game once since you've been here for a good time, if by any chance you finished witch hunt DLC you'll get the much acclaimed "sorrows of Arlathan" which will boost your ranged critical chance by pretty pretty good amount...you go for it and you'll deal some serious critical damage from "far far away" they won't even see you coming.

It is a good bow. I believe 36 dexterity is needed to be able to use that bow.

34,the same as Marjolaine's one, i do not think there is any bow above that.

Pretty much my thinking....short bows make no sense unless you have no other options.  But what of cross bows?  Good for range and damage, but do most of you find them too slow?

Shortbows are slightly faster than longbows. It's a pity that there are not many shortbows with good enough bonuses to match with that of the longbows. They can have their situational/temporary uses though; eg. Bregan's Bow being usable earlier than the Sorrows of Arlathan owing to it's lesser DEX requirement can serve well for a couple of early levels; they can also be good ranged backup weapons for characters that have low DEX - Whitewood Bow in the hands of the Stens and the Oghrens can be handy at times. Such exceptions aside, there is hardly any reason to prefer a shortbow over a longbow. In Awakening though, the Bregan's Bow is the most damaging bow for a warrior archer specialized as a Spirit Warrior.

The crossbow is useful only in the early game because it's damage doesn't scale with attributes, in addition to it's longer aim time.

What's the use of earning a bow by completing a story that you should be doing after everything else is already done?

Not being sarcastic. I really want to know.

Will it be available for a new playthrough?

(I've only done a full run once)

It will be available for a new playthrough once you unlock it, and you can use it in future playthroughs from that point forward.

Unless of course you data gets corrupted, and then you have to delete all your game data. I figure I'll give it one more playthrough, and if it happens again I'm done with the game.
