All classes does not share tjhe same power trees but there is one that they all have, the one where you can increase your shield or you melee damage. In this tree i allways go full shields. It is my experience that i become an easy target if i dont. When i play on gold runs i allways have that and nothing less than one shield consumable. I usually use the classes i have that are fully ranked. Nevertheless i get killed alot.

Sometimes i put more than one consumable for shields and it usually helps. The problem is though, i dont have many of those and after 5-6 runs i would be empty if i started spending them. What do other players do to help sort this out?

I had the same problem when I started playing higher difficulties . The reason was awareness, amplified by a tendency for reckless play.

It was usually not the two pyros and the prime plodding towards my position that got me but rather the lone hunter that spawned behind or the rocket trooper that shot me from the flank. The easiest way to amend this was geth scanner, so I recommend to try using that - getting flanked is maybe one of the more critical things on gold difficulty and it should be much easier to avoid with this gear :).

Once you get a feel on how the enemy units move and which places on the maps are good spots to attack from, you may find that this gear item can trivialize the game in many ways, but by then you won´t really need it anymore. I also recommend to move around a lot and use "right hand advantage" (= soft cover on your left side towards the enemy).

Good advice. On top of this I would say that I have a bad habit of straying off from my squadmates, leaving me more vulnerable to flanking attacks.

My problem is that I can't resist a potential grab. But I think that made me a better player.

I would dodge phantoms and dragoons just to get to that one cowardly hiding centurian half way across the map.

But then my friend would headshot him just when I got into cover for the grab. I hate that bloody widow :(

Cyclonics are a crutch

No really.  Play a 6/0/6/6/6 Drell Adept with Adreneline Module, or a 6/6/6/6/0 Asari Huntress with Power Amplifier.  Each of these can be amazing, and are kits that I use regularly to great effect, but I do find myself using Cyclonics on a lot of kits that probably do not need them.  It is my most used consumable, and I can probably find a few others to use on some of my favorite kits.

Check your flanks every time you reload, use pets like combat drone to guard your flank (when you hear zapping it's time to pay attention). Know where your teammates are and stay within ~ half a map length of them if they're together.

It's basically a matter of practice.  Use right hand advantage and be aware of where the enemy is (either visually, through Geth Scanner/Hunter mode or with a decent set of headphones) and don't run out into open spaces to play with Phantoms and Dragoons.  Abuse knowledge of enemy spawning patterns to be able to go on the offensive against them in places where it works to your advantage.

Practice with squishier classes who don't benefit much from cyclonics (Drell Adept/Infiltrator...Vanguard if hosting) or classes with excellent base shields (Krogans, Batarians, Turians) without cyclonics as well.

Exactly.  This is nothing more than a L2P problem.

I generally put enough ranks into fitness to give me 1000 shields, give or take.  I reserve my cyclonics for characters who can't get up to ~1000 shields without them (e.g. vanilla humans and most asari), or for characters whom I play at closer-than-comfortable range (e.g. THavoc).

Try the quarian or salarian engineers or infiltrators, they all have ~1000 shields with six ranks in fitness and are quite survivable.  Try an adrenaline module instead of a cyclonic modulator; try being nimble rather than tanky.

The asari justicar is another good one to try, she has 990 shields with six ranks in fitness and gets damage reduction when Reave is active.

With melee, it depends on the character and the tools they have to support survivability.

For a Huntress or Shadow, they can move around quickly and the Shadow's shield drain evolution in Shadow Strike keeps you chopping down mobs with relatively low risk. Both have very powerful heavy melee, each taking more than 2 bars of armor off the likes of brutes and scions. The Paladin's omnishield is very valuable to his arsenal as it keeps your explosions going AND is an invaluable stopping tool for phantoms and dragoons or any enemy that goes full aggro on you. It's all about risk vs reward. Personally I've never gotten into the no fitness builds (except for Drell Assassin and AIU) mainly because there's typically a power or evo I can do without.

Most of the time I only go 3 in fitness unless it's a melee character and then I go full melee.  There are a couple of exceptions, but it's better to learn to play without fitness or with low fitness so you can have more offense (IMO).

Master tanky kits first: Shaman, Krogans used as weapon platform, TGI, AIU...

Then, try to apply what you've learned with your tanky kits to more nimble characters, speccing in melee damage and/or without evolving your shield level. You'll be there faster than you'll know it.

Alright, i knew the "learn to play" comment would come. And of course i realise there is some truth to it, but let me lighten you up abit. In gold runs i do the numbers of deaths per player is usually no less than 4-5. It happends rarely that the player with the fewest deaths dies less than that. More often the number is higher. So aparaently it seems that there are alot of people that nee3ds to learn to play the game. Nevertheless, the gold runs i am in usually doesnt fail.

And i have to admit i wasnt completely honest, i dont die all the time except from when i am experimenting with diferent classes, weapons and builds. Or when i have lag,

They do. But I've got 6 ops packs to take care of them. And 6 missiles too.

Whether extra shields or melee damage is useful depends entirely on what character you're using and how you're playing them.

Melee builds in general is a lot of fun, but in this game only viable to a certain extent. A melee focused build will never keep up with most weapon based or power based kits on the higher difficulties.

And melee is unfortunately a dangerous game on platinum, to easy to get sync killed and to much damage blocking bs (which weapons are unaffected by).

Take the king if melee the Krogan Warlord, more frustrating than fun imo on platinum and gold Collectors.

It's a lot of fun yes, but melee limits you a lot outside of bronze/silver and gold Geth.

Honestly, I find an Adrenaline mod to be far more powerful than a Cyclonic in most circumstances. Unless you plan to just stand out in the open firing, a cyclonic will be much less useful for about 90% of the game, as with an Adrenaline enemies just can't seem to hit you.

Also, if I do take fitness, I almost always take 6a, just because a bonus 25-30% damage is really amazing when all it takes is a single husk to get it.
