when im level 1 i get 1-2 hits on perilous but on nightmare i can tank 4-5 hits when lvl 15+

You get passives that increase strength/magic/dex/etc as you go through the trees. That will cause you to be better even with the basic 2 skills. I think you naturally gain those too even without spending points. I don't have the game installed otherwise I would test myself to try to narrow it down. So I will leave that to you or Drasca or whoever (or whomever, Idk how that would work in this case tbh)

I don't know what's behind it but it is certainly not a marginal increase in my stats.

Are you talking about as you spend you ability points through leveling or just going 1-20 without spending any points at all?

If you spend points as you lvl then you will hit harder because most (if not all) abilities, active and passive, give stat boost to make you hit harder or give more con/cun/magic/willpower/etc.
If you don't spend any points and you are still hitting harder then obviously it is because, as shown in that link, you gain stat boosts per lvl. Just look under the "General Attributes" spoiler tag in that link. Here it is again: http://forum.bioware...-and-mechanics/

and every time you promote in each class your lvl 1 gets stronger too, I can even take a hit on nm on a lvl 1 and still live, although I cant kill anything with it yet lol

At least you admit when you're wrong. Most the time. The other scrub does not.
