So the Titan at the end of Descent has been kicking my butt, even at a level 24, so I went to some strategy guides and noticed they were recommending some weapons (with electricity damage) that can be gotten via Trespasser. But if you play Trespasser, you can't play anything else, right? So do the things you loot/win in Trespasser Golden Nug themselves into my next game?

You don't need Trespasser gear to defeat the Titan. I don't know why such "guides" recommend such OP stuff, it's not necessary, even on Nightmare. I didn't use any of that stuff on Nightmare. So the Titan at the end of Descent has been kicking my butt, even at a level 24, so I went to some strategy guides and noticed they were recommending some weapons (with electricity damage) that can be gotten via Trespasser. There is some good advice in this thread:

Basically, focus everyone's attacks on one node, preferrably out of range of the arms, but if you have to get melee close, have some kind of protection from knockdown. My 2H Champ spammed Walking Fortress. Stay out of the zapping circles too, or use dispel. Just keep hitting the node.

The second thing that happens is that the current character's schematics and collectibles are compared to the master list in the cloud. Anything that is in the master list that the current character doesn't have is added to their inventory. This means that once you find the schematic for, say, Encore, and activate the Golden Nug, any character you create later that activates the Golden Nug in their play through will now have a schematic for the Encore staff in their crafting list. This can create some extremely unbalanced gameplay, true, but some people enjoy that. Besides, you don't get access to the Golden Nug until you complete the story at least once, so you have to have at least one standard run. If you want to preserve that in subsequent playthroughs, just don't activate the Golden Nug on subsequent characters, and you'll have the same experience as the first time you played through the game.

I'm a bit confused about that boss fight. I read you have to move here, dodge this, attack that. All I did was Barrier-up everyone, use Aegis of the Rift and pound on the Lyrium Cluster and it went down in less than 5 minutes with my Rogue, Dorian, Cole and Bull. I tried all those other strategies first and ended up dead or the fight dragging on too long.

Aegis! I didn't know that it blocks magic attacks too, I thought only arrows. I had to look it up.I'm a bit confused about that boss fight. I read you have to move here, dodge this, attack that. That assumes you've done JoH first, though. If you don't have Aegis, spam barrier works too.

As an archer, evade is your friend. And yep, Aegis blocks ALL range attacks. It is a life saver in decent with those bloody crossbows. Fight starts up, turn on the aegis and flask of fire.
Ended up just killing the titan by myself. Blackwall just swung at it.. no real issue because I kept dodging and evading between shots.

Ah so that's why it was so easy! Aegis really did save my life! I played the DLC in the order they came out and after the main game ended. My Trevelyan Rogue had Dorian close by her and cast Aegis on them and then had Dorian use Barrier on Cole and Bull and sometimes them when Aegis ran out and it worked!

The descent is clearly much harder without Aegis. I didn't have it thew first time through the deep roads, but i countered it the second time with walk softly. I still go for the arms with my melee characters. Still the last fight on the bridge was way harder on nightmare and with walk softly. Those elite bolters do a lot of damage.

Even without Trials, that second encounter in the small cave with the rocks and gullies is a b**ch. I had to reload a couple of times until I figured out that I needed to keep everyone together under the Aegis umbrella.

^This. I experimented with the Aegis in JoH so I worked out it's benefit pretty early.. saw the crossbows of the dwarves and instantly popped it to protect myself and the party. Every time combat started up went the aegis.

Oh man that saved me from being shot to death! I was so glad I got it before Descent.

The first time I played it I didn't have all my potions upgraded and didn't use Aegis. I put everyone on one node except my tempest archer rogue and dodged the arm thing. If Cole died, Cass would revive him and he takes a potion. We did it first try. If you have regeneration potion upgraded all the way it will help revive a party member because it has a radius. Three people in one node can use one regeneration potion. Dorian storm call and electric staff makes this pretty easy. I had Dorian cast barrier whenever open. The second time around I used Aegis and barrier.

yeah as Miranda in ME2 would say this is one tough SOB to take down. I had trouble with it even as a Knight Enchanter and they're practically indestructible. It took down both my warriors pretty much instantly thank goodness me and Varric could strike it at range as it's keeping Varric and myself at range that beat it. Will likely be waiting till I get the Aegis power though given I'm not going to be a KE this time.
