The only batarians I can stand are Bray and the shopkeeper on Omega in ME 2.  That said they aren't bad to play as in the multiplayer.

What about the preacher? "You sir! You are a blight!" I love that line. "And you! And you, human. Aaaand yooou!" I love that and laugh every single time at that first one.

Its important to remember that the batarians we encounter are not the majority. We see their worse. What we don't see is the oppressed people who are dominated by their government that spreads fear and propaganda. Also remember that the majority of their slaves are actually their own people. If them slaving a small human colony is enough to make you want to exterminate the species what do you feel for all the mistreated batarian slaves that largely outnumber them? Should all the batarian slaves be killed too because they are batarians? Relative to how many batarians are slaves I'd argue that other alien slaves are the rarity.

The batarian people have had it miserable. I don't hate all of them just because those in charge or those I encounter are despicable. If an alien's encounter with humans was limited to only Cerberus they'd probably think we're all horrible monsters too. I think its crucial to keep things in context here and not hate the entire species for the actions of radical nutjobs. Humanity has a bad habit of doing things like this in history and its never ended well.

That being said I kill Balek, his "simple slave run" buddies and didn't warn them about the relay. Though me not warning them wasn't a matter of not caring - I just didn't think it would change anything. It was too late to warn anyone plus there was the possibility of them stopping it from happening by blowing up the astroid or something. Couldn't take that risk. Not like anyone would have been saved anyway since there was no time left. At most a handful will survive if they were already near the relay in a ship. Other than that the planet and its inhabitants were doomed from the start.

^ True. We don't know if every Batarian is like that. Is it right to hate a whole species just because most of them (the ones we encounter at least) hate our guts?

don't worry, i will send some Cerberus Phantoms to your location for further questions.  Keep in mind, i always use idiots to distract Aria and others.

And Stronglav, there is always more room within Cerberus if you so incline to join us. Also Batarians are some of the reasons for many humans support Cerberus if not join us.

'Batarians' are largely in the wrong.

But not entirely. Humanity has only been around for quick a lot less than a century and its already gobbling up the garden worlds that Batarians intended on.

And again, we're damn new. Omega? Humans have probably only, as least in mass population, only been there for years, not even decades.

They don't know us. They don't see our good and bad, and they're blinded by the bad enough to not consider the good.

And with their isolation and terrorism, we don't know them. We see ONLY the bad.

That said, the Batarians were already squandering their galactic good will over the centuries, instead of trying to build it up. While not as much as the worst offenders (like Krogans), they were expansionist and certainly have a worse record than humanity (at least, we haven't had the time to make the mistakes). So when they called for help regarding humanity in the verge, the Council declined.

They're bitter and secluded and hardened to the galaxy. And they still have millions of innocents dying to the Reapers. Do we want to be as bad as them? Will we allow that? Or will we help them be better, in whatever scale we can? It starts when face to face, person to person. Yes, even the jerks and criminals and terrorists, despite beliefs otherwise.

This is what Mass Effect exposes us to btw. Jerks. Criminals. Terrorists. PEOPLE. They offend our sense of decency and order. Good. That's the point.

Thread about hate for the batarians.

Let me tell you mine starter with that girl Talitha. After hearing her story and seeing what

they did to her I wanted simple exterminate them all.

And then the DLC about that asteroid. My hate grew.

"Quick slave grab".

I felt much the same way. Put a few "bullets" in the first Batarian I got my hands on. But it wasn't because "zOMFG slavery is bad", or "they're all monsters" thing. I just didn't like them, from the get-go the moment I saw that pig face in the Codex I just knew. Enter stage: smug idiot Charn who thinks he can just "It's just a prank bro" his way out of situation where he killed at least a dozen humans.Well... he saw the error of his ways pretty fast. Then along came Balak and presumes to chastise me for not letting him get away with attempted ethnic cleansing scot free(Shame hostages had to die, but I wasn't about to let this maniac go). Anyway that was my interaction with Batarians in ME1.

Then there's that side mission in ME2 where you have to choose between potentially giving up a colony of some strategic value or letting couple hundred people die, Again courtesy of Batarians. So, it doesn't take a crystal ball to guess that I couldn't be stuffed to warn their colony.

Then in ME3 you encounter all the Cannibals and say to yourself: "You had it coming A-holes!"

Well I was on my merry way indulging my inter-spices nazi tendencies when I completed Omega DLC, at the end of which I received an E-mail from Bray that ends as follows:

"Be careful out there. Know there's at least one batarian here that doesn't want you dead."

Now I feel like a total A-hole. Live and learn I guess.

That depends. He could easily kill many times more if you let him go. I have a guideline I use for that issue: Never give up what is for what could be. But each person must decide.

Its a shame that the game didn't emphasis on them more. Batarians plays a huge role in several of Shepard's background; Mindoir-born, War Hero and Ruthless. Didn't like how they're neutered by the time you start ME3. How quickly they all reaperized.

And ability to execute him as I see fit.

First I will cut off his legs and watch him bleed....

Then I will load early save and cut off his arms and watch him bleed.

Then load save and gut him like a fish and watch him bleed.

Yes I m a psychopath.I just hate four eyed freaks.
