Alright. This will sound like a very stupid request, but it would be nice if our next protagonist could choose the pet he owns.

I for instance would love to adopt a fennec. Other people loved the Mabari, but I couldn't sympathise with the beast. I just don't like dogs in general.

DA4 could offer 4 choices for pet: the traditional Mabari, a fennec, a nug and an exotic animal (like a dragonling that you get to tame after he's hatched).

There could also be cool cutscenes with our pet. Even a mini sidequest. Anyway, it's just a thought.

But fennecs and nugs can't fight, and a dragonling is too big. The mabari was perfect because it could fight, it was extremely intelligent and it could fit through doors.

As a replacement, I nominate the humble ghast, which can fight, is smart enough to use tools and magic, and is just a little smaller than a party member.

Our pet doesn't need to follow us to our missions. He could remain in our headquarters, only leaving when we visit safe locations (cities, villages, asf).

One advantage of the dragonling is that he can intimidate our enemies. Imagine the Inquisitor threatening to feed the accused to his pet dragon during his trials.

'Either you confess your actions in Therinfal Redout or Norbert here shall interrogate you tonight. Alone. In a dungeon.' /casts meaningful look at dragonling.

If I had a Fennec as a pet, I'd probaly end up killing it (accidentically). I think I'll leave the nugs to Leliana, she knows to how not lose them randomly. A Dragonling wold be awesome, and I would Iike a Marbari back though.

I wouldn't mind a pet if it stayed in our HQ and wasn't part of combat. Like the mabari in Hawke's manor (but not in the combat wheel)

Why not, cats kill mice and have been known kill snakes including poisonous snakes such as Cobras and drive off bears.

I'm told that foxes are much like dogs and that some people do keep them as pets, but I don't know. They make this weird, squeaky, chittery yapping sound when they're excited, and that would get annoying pretty fast. I mean, Schmooples was enough to make me play with the sound off. I don't think I could take a fox yammering at me all the time.

Same. I wish we could have our PC own a cat. Extra points if a low approval companion stops by and the cat swats them on the hand when they try to pet it.

They own, but I agree. It sucks the Inquisitor never got a pet, when the Warden and Hawke did.

If we did get a pet, I would like the option to have 1 of 5, along with being able to name them. Like the silent protagonist vs. voiced protagonist thing, either allowing the player to come up with whatever name they wanted like in Origins and 2, or giving the player a list of possible names, say 5 names that they will actually speak in dialogue like in Fallout 4.

Also, it'd be fun to have the dialogue option of making the PC use baby talk. Something along the lines of, "That's right! Mean, old Dorian doesn't get to pat Mr. Bigglesworth, because he doesn't appreciate Dr. Evil's plan to destroy the qunari!"

You can free a nug from a cage in the butchers shop in SBH, he then follows you around a bit.  I named him Dave
