Specifically, I've never seen a good explanation by anyone as to how Leliana survived at the Temple of Sacred Ashes should the HoF have chosen to kill her. This is one possibility which does not conflict with anything else Bioware has given us.

Assuming there is any connection at all between the Elvhen Gods and Andraste (which is not crazy given the almost identical appearances and stories of Mythal/FenHarel, Flemeth/Solas and Andraste/Shartan: the ashes of 'Andraste' may hold some sort of immortality magic within them. This would work within the concepts Solas gives us at the end of Trespasser about ancient elvhen immortality before the fade. That could have easily revived her within dragon age lore and without presupposing some divine miracle or the existence of the maker. Again, this theory does not actually demand that you accept that Mythal is Andraste, that's another theory, simply that there may be some connection between Andraste and the ancient elves.

EDIT: explained below....

I don't know what elves have to do with it. It's just spirit based magic. The same thing enabling the Guardian, I imagine.

It was magic singing rocks.

What else is there to think about?

Umm, Trespasser answered this question. The lyrium in the Temple created a doppelganger of Leliana with her memories.

Have you seen the Tresspasser epilogue slide for the world state where she was killed in DAO? It explains it fairly well, I think.

I wouldn't consider it to be well explained.

"The lyrium sang thought into being. Now time is stale, and the melody is called elsewhere. Until I am needed. I am free."

Pretty vague if you ask me. Could refer to a range of explanations.

"lyrium sang thought into being" could refer to plain resurrection in the same body, or could refer to the creation of a ghost or new physical entity. It isn't clear. Also, the term "Lyrium Ghost" is a name for one of Fenris' abilities, and is not an official designation.
