What are your favorite companions to take with you throughout the land? You can post why you take them and an optional fourth who you like to switch the other companions out with.

 

EX: I usually take Dorian, Cassandra, and Sera. I like their party banter and having a rogue, mage, and warrior is a good combination (I usually make my Inquisitor a Rogue). I also switch out Sera with Iron Bull because sometimes I'll need two warriors and because I like him. 

 

(I was having a hard time deciding whether to put this in the Strategy thread or here, but ehh.)

Cole goes everywhere with me. He has lots to say about many things. Solas is with me too and Blackwall or Bull. I like having a Mage, Rogue and 2 Warriors. I usually play an Archer or Mage.

I tend to take three characters for whatever reasons. In the end, it is going to be Cassandra, Varric, Solas for the Cory-finale.

My go to team is Cass, Varric and Dorian, unless I know I'm going to do something that's going to tick off Cass. Then it's usually Bull.

My most used team for my knight enchanter tends to be Blackwall (DPS tank hybrid), Varric (overkill focus ability) and Solas (great crowd control).

 

Others I use a lot are Cassandra, Dorian and a rotation of Sera and Cole. Iron Bull and Vivienne tend to be bench warmers.

Cassandra, Varric and Solas always seem to go along no what class I am playing, it helps love their back and forth banter especially when it goes three way.

Cole almost always, usually with Dorian and Blackwall. Although this game it's almost always Solas because the current IQ is romancing him. In fact, romanced party members are usually picked first. Viv and Varric almost never unless there is a good reason for them to be there. I like Varric but just rarely want to pick him over Cole or Sera.

I mix it up so much that I tend to have lots of different teams, rather than one 'standard'. I tend to take Solas around with me a lot given his tendency to drop lore bombs that I've initially missed - otherwise, it's pretty flexible.

 

The Classic Team: Cassandra, Varric, Solas. Oh c'mon, they're all great, they all have some of my favourite dialogue.

 

The Fun Team: Iron Bull, Sera, Blackwall/Dorian interchangeably, depending if I want to hear more great Sera dialogue or more Adoribull.

 

The Team That Is Most Likely to Burn the Winter Palace Down With Every Noble Inside: Sera, Solas, and Blackwall. Sometimes exchange with Iron Bull if I need a little more chill in my team - Qun!Bull totally would though, if only during an invasion.

 

The Least Faves (aka I feel bad for not taking this group out enough): Vivienne, Cole, and Dorian/Varric. I actively feel guilty about how much I neglect Vivienne given how tanky and beautiful and snarky she is.

 

Finally, if I've decided I no longer give any fucks: Solas, Vivienne, Dorian + Mage!Quisitor. Endless barriers, endless fire mines, endless snark. I took this group on my last run through the Temple of Mythal (five mages, if you include Morrigan) and it was glorious. Given the amount of barrier spamming and AOE spells that goes on it's quite easy to do this for the whole game on lower dififculties, but then again, I play mage almost exclusively and I have a much better handle on how they work together.

I ran a group of 4 mages and it was AWESOME!

I did that in my last game for a while but after Dorian and Viv had the same banter about 50 times, she got sent back to the bench. Also, I couldn't open everything I wanted with no warrior bash or rogue lockpicker so I had to do a lot of backtracking, which wasn't fun. I did have all 4 mages for most of the main quests and the battle with Cory though.

 

As for must-haves on the road, Dorian is really the only one I want to bring with me everywhere, as well as whomever I am romancing that PT. I learned the hard way last game to always bring Cass to the temple battle in JoH (the convo re: Seekers doesn't occur if she isn't there, which made the whole thing extremely short). If banter worked reliably, I would probably bring Cole more just to hear what he has to say with everyone else. I also will bring someone along just for RP reasons. In my current game, I figured Bull was angry and just wanted to hit something after the FUBARed Qun mission, so I took him with me to the Deep Roads where he got to hit all kinds of stuff. And when we got back, I took him dragon hunting.

 

Sera and Vivienne usually keep everyone at Skyhold on their toes for when I get back. They are definitely my least used companions.

Dorian, Cole, Cassandra are my three favs. I sometimes switch Cass with Varric.

 

I find it odd that I went this route with DAI as I normally prefer to run with a mostly ranged group. In DAI my canon PC is an SnS warrior, and of course there is Cole and Cassandra. I usually keep Cass as SnS, but have her go for damage and party buffing rather than tanking.

Dorian, Cassandra and Sera are my favored team throughout. Vivienne and Cole stay benched for most of the game.

I like all of them except for Blackwall and Vivienne. Though Viv has some good banter with Cassandra, concerning Cassandra's romance with the Inquisitor.

My usual party is Cassandra, Varric and Solas or Dorrian. I try to mix it up, because each character his some neat banter. Sera and Bull, and Sera and Cassandra for instance. Cole and Cassandra is another good pair. Solas and Sera is hilarious. Varric pairs well with everyone except with Blackwall, who Varric compares to Sebastien Vale. lol

My favored group is Dorian, Sera and I swap Blackwall and Bull back and forth pretty evenly.  The others I mostly bring along when I'm going back to do quests I hadn't gotten around to so I don't miss out on their banter.

I normally like to stick with Varric, Cassandra and Solas, though they're not my favorite companions. It just makes sense, story-wise, in my eyes. I actually prefer Blackwall over Cassandra, he's such a nice guy. I just wish I could unknow who he really is at the start of every new playthrough My favorite team is Blackwall, Dorian and Sera.

I DO THAT and it's not even that bad cause just give them all barrier and you're set to go.

I usually have Dorian, Cole, Cassandra and than have the Inquisitor as a support mage. Although, the only ones I don't ever use are Iron Bull (he dies too quickly and I need a meat shield) and Sera (who I don't want anywhere near my inquisition).
