It's not really that simple.

Agreed.

The thing about Solas is, yes if you did not meet him, he would have gone through with his plan not caring, but you get the chance to change him. Even a hated Inquisitor earns his respect. When he says "what we had was real" or "I respect you" he means that. Nothing was false about his feelings and friendship. That's why he's a bit of a mess when you see him again in Trespasser. He's conflicted, confused and yet his pride, guilt and determination keeps him from swaying from his original path.

To me, if Solas said he lied about it all, his feelings included and saw you as trash to be removed, then he would be very very sorry he ever knew me, but he never denies we made him feel things he never thought he would about non-people.

Thus, why he's so conflicted. Suddenly things are a lot more real.

And he can't bring himself to eliminate that feeling or the Inquisitor like he did with Felassan because he now knows how it feels. Probably why Cole says he was sad he died.

Exactly.

And it seems I've run out of likes for the moment, so consider this one :)

I've got enough likes for both of us!  ;)

And if the PC is new (grins at Hanako) there's no reason for it to be revenge unless there's some kind of Arl Howe setup for said PC.

I don't think it's going to be a case of which choice is the "right" one. They both may be right or wrong.

*hiss*

But you're likely right. Both options will have their pros and cons.

It's not really that simple.

It really is. If he was truly our friend, he would stop his plan to remove the Veil and destroy the world, you included, since friends don't murder friends. And yet here he is staying the course, meaning he either was never your true friend, or has discarded the friendship. In either case, he is no longer the Inquisitor's friend.

I'll kill him if I have to, and I'll weep over it if it comes to that and thank Bioware for the feelz.  Solas created the veil for a reason - for all their 'knowledge and wisdom' it was going to hell in a hand-basket , it changed the world as the elvhen knew it.  It's done, their time is over it was no Utopia - no better than present day DA - in fact I'd argue that it should have been better but sh*t was hitting the fan left, right and centre.  I do say this from the perspective of only playing the games and reading the codex, however, I don't have any other background knowledge, and neither does my Inquisitor.

ETA:  I do think that Mythal is heavily involved in Solas' motivation, but it's just a feeling.

He can't stop himself but we can. It's just a matter of how much we want to after what he put us through.

I've killed a lot of characters I've considered my character's friends in various games for what I've thought was "the greater good" or "to save the world". There are things more important than personal friendships.

He can stop himself. He isn't under anyone's control but himself. He chooses to not stop himself, and everything that choice entails.

Maybe. I think there's something more to it and it strongly connects to Mythal. Hinted at if you drink from the Well. We'll know the truth in time.

Sorry, I just wanted to poke you a bit :)

But it really isn't that simple, there are things that do trump friendship, and duty is one of them. He has a duty to his people the supersedes his own feelings in the matter.

Personally, I'd rather trap him with the other Evanuris. I doubt anything we'd get the choice to do with him could come close to what Elgar'nan would do to him.

He was on his path before the events of Inquisition. His path caused everything in Inquisition. He says he follows nobody but himself. The truth is known already.

And by trumping friendship, the friendship becomes invalid. At that moment, it is forsaken for those things. Friends don't betray friends.

You see it your way, others see it theirs, but yes friendship can easily be trumped by duty. Like Alistair dumping you if you aren't a noble. He loved you, but he chose his crown and people over you, but that does not mean he stopped loving you.

Not really much I can say, other than I 100% disagree with your definition of what friendship is. I would never expect a friend to view me as more important than the fate of a world, and I would never stop thinking of someone as a friend because they were willing to fight against me for what they thought would "save the world", no matter how mistaken they were.

I tend to be the kind of friend who never gives up on my friend in need, even when they give up on themself and others. I keep trying until I either reach them or have to help them in a more strict way. I guess that bleeds through into my gameplay. That's how I am with friendships and my views in real life.

Life is rarely that black and white.

It was Shepard's duty to ensure that the bomb went off on Virmire, and she sacrificed a friend to do it. Does that make their friendship any less?

Gandalf knew he was most likely sending Frodo to his death, even though they were close, because the survival of the whole of Middle Earth was more important than one person.

And those are just fictional accounts. I'm sure if I dug through the US Civil War alone that I could find more than a few.

Oh wow I was just thinking of that! I saw the ending today. OMG... what a choice! If that happens with Solas, it will be very very hard but SO amazing!

I have no plans in killing Solas I want to save/redeem him if we can, better be able too. I don't kill unless that's the only option available. I will be very angry and upset if we, those who want to redeem him go on that path and end up having to kill him anyway. I actually want to option to keep him alive.

For me, it won't be a hard choice to make (like LiS), very, very sad but not hard.

I hate what Solas plans and I hate what that means for who and what Solas really is as a person, but given the chance I will have the next hero or Quizzy go Luke Skywalker all over Darth Solas.
