I think they gave her just the right amount of dialogue concerning someone she may not have spoken to in over a decade.

Or at all.

My romanced Leliana has almost the same line (paraphrased) "He's on a quest right now, but we will be together again, never to part after" that romanced warden Alistair and Morrigan do.  In addition, my Cousland import had my boy married to Anora and Leliana says "he married her, but he loves me!" indicating she's very aware of his feelings toward her.  In Halamshiral she's introduced as the mistress of the king of Ferelden and a veteran of the fifth blight, something she would have to have told them in order to be properly introduced.  And in the end, he rejoined her (she was Divine).

Unromanced Leliana spoke of my (canon) Surana as 'a good friend, but that was a long time ago'.  How does blathering on and on about the Warden serve her now when she has an Inquisition to look after as a spymaster?  The generally loquacious Leliana of Origins has become a lot more reserved than she used to be, kind of a necessary trait to have developed when you are the keeper of secrets.

Even "killed Leliana" speaks of the 'hero' of Ferelden (in less than glowing/affectionate terms).

That's the only mention in the entire game (by Leliana, at least). If you romanced her in Origins, it seems a very poor reference to me. Given the importance of the game I think the Warden deserved better attention.

But that's just perception. My point was that she does not mention her even when directly asked: not when you ask about the wardens, not when you ask about her past. She talks about her past as a bard, something that happened more than 10 years ago, following your "maybe" logic, but not about the experiences in the fifht blight? It makes no sense to me.

Which leads me to my personal conclusion about how devs feel about Origins.

She doesn't talk about the blight because she might have been left at the camp all the time, Bioware don't know. And she can't really say much about the Warden because the writers don't actually know anything about the Warden.

I'm not really satisfied with the handling of the romance, but I'm not sure it was practical to do all that much better.

edit: Though it is silly that there's no mention by Leliana of the HoF in relation to the various Warden things in the game until after Adamant Fortress.

I agree, it's a difficult thing to do; nonetheless, I think the dialogue or the amount of it could have been a lot better.

About blight mentions... well the exact same thing could be said about Varric and the champion's story, and that did not restrain devs to turn his dialogue and vision about his/her story a central point in Inquisition plot.

I think because of it might've been recycled from the older project (Exalted March). There could've been a lot of little things they used from it. I know the Arbor Wilds/Flemeth stuff was supposed to be Hawke's story originally.

DA2 was much more closed up when compared to DAO, first of all we start with a known quantity, a hero named Hawke, he has to do certain things in the order they are given to you for the plot to progress and the decisions only give flavour to whatever you did. Like the dlc with Corypheus, I am not sure but it doesn't seem to matter if you played it or not it still happens. Aveline always becomes the guard captain, there is the mage rebellion and the whole meredith becoming red lyrium giant no matter what you do.

However the warden has many options, he/she can be of 3 different races and many origin stories, then there is the choices, many more personal ones, I think they simply included the most common variables and then gave up on the rest.

But generally yeah I wish there was more mention of the warden and that Leliana would be chattier.
