No seriously are you guys serious? Having playable alien races is the silliest idea ive read all year, it simply CANNOT WORK. No if or butts and it would assassinate the overall narrative for ME, which is Humanity exploring and conquering the final frontier. DA is not ME and vice versa, here are some reason why it simply wont work and why Bioware should even bother considering it.

- multiple races harms character development and the narrative.

- overall character animations become stiff and dull

- waste of resources that could be put elsewhere

-the already Human Aliens of ME would become more Human and wooden since there's only so much options to define your PC

-who the hell wants to play as an Asari

-alien characters are aren't alien at all and just humans with a palette swap, playing as them will only make it worse.

If you want to play alien races then play the multiplayer and stop with the whining.

Bioware, listen to this guy. He knows what he's talking about, only not really.

When you need a problem shot, ask a turian. When you need a problem talked to death, ask an asari. When you need a new problem, ask a salarian. When you want a problem fixed, ask a human.

Most people only play as humans anyway, and it's a huge resource sink for a feature not a lot of people use. I like to play as a turian, but I can see why they skip it for this game. They have to redesign the Qunari to make them look more humans as opposed to DA2 look in order to fit in with the model and expression they have for the human characters. Turian and the likes would be hell to animate and look correctly.

it worked fine for dragon age.

Not really... not for me anyway. I love playing non-human characters. In fact, I never play human when I can be something else. But DA is not a good example of getting it right. In DAI the Solas romance is rewarding in that respect. But why are non-humams even there in the first place. Very bland nonsensical writing. Especially for a qunari.

I actually agree with our troll here. Narrative is usuay better when there is less choice. It just is. How enjoyable a game is does not necessarily have to do with narrative. Some people prefer freedom to a narrative tailored to a protagonist.

I'm in the camp that just want an engaging protagonist-centric narrative like Shepard and Hawke. I didn't care one bit for the inquisitor.

What I would have loved for ME:A is protagonist of a SET alien race. I'm tired of exploring humanity in Mass Effect. I want to know what it's like to be a quarian or a salarian.

How dare anyone think differently from you. Only a self-entitled whiner would dare disagree with you. Get the pitchforks.

There's an incredibly fine line between an opinion and plain stupid **** though.

I find your lack of faith in aliens, disturbing...

Spoiler

Multiplayer doesn't have any story.

People want to play a story as an alien.

Thus, MP is not a solution.

I know that, I would love to play a Turian or new alien. Maybe next game. I think you missed my reply to OP, stating I misunderstood the thread. I thought they were saying no MP multi-races, just make it humans.

Maybe I'm blowing it up due to the extreme lack of Dwarven content in the vanilla game, but I could swear that there were only a handful of times that the game actually recognized me being a Dwarf and practically all of them were "Hey... you're a Dwarf". Even Dagna doesn't say anything extra to you, and Varric is practically a short human with a crossbow for all the insight or interaction he gives the player.

Morrigan lecturing the elf PC on elf lore is annoying though. Personally, I think that the game would have been better served with only having humans and elves as playable. You might have still had instances like you mentioned, but at least we could have got a little more reactivity out of the bargain if BioWare didn't have to worry about Dwarves and Qunari.

Dagna will say something about Aeducan/Brosca if you import a world state with one of those characters. It's easy to forget what kind of content we've experienced when things pass by into the rearview mirror, but there have been plenty of dwarf comments -- somewhat more so if a dwarven world state is imported. No, a dwarf playthrough will not be as polished as a human one because there were areas they forgot to go back and add in dwarf content (Cadash dreaming in the Fade with Solas, which Weekes conceded he dropped the ball on), but that's no reason to throw hands in the air and give up. Dragon Age opened the door on multiple races from the beginning. If you buy a product because of a feature (multiple races) that was offered, you'd feel shortchanged if they decided to no longer support a feature that drew you in the franchise. People will always expect multiple races from the Dragon Age team. Thedas = The Dragon Age Setting. Dwarven and elven NPCs stick up for each other against the oppressive human NPCs. It's unfortunate when players can't stick up for other players and demand that all races have the same quality of writing, regardless of what they choose.

Mass Effect marketed their game with a singular named protagonist. There is no reason to hold them to the same standard as Dragon Age, but there's no harm in asking or expressing wishful thinking. We wouldn't have gotten Tali or Garrus as love interests otherwise.
