Throughout this year i have seen many "top ten upcoming games of 2016" videos on youtube. Its only recently i saw mass effect andromeda in one of them.

Acording to this video that ranks it nr 9, the game would probably have been ranked higher if it wasnt for the lack of information coming out.

So why is Bioware so cautious about slipping some information? Is it because the game is nowhere near finished, and that alot might stil be subject to change? Is it because they like torturing curious gamers that wants to learn something about the game? Or are they doing it to make sure people dont loose their curiousity?

Why really cares about such lists?

Probably a bit of everything you mentioned. Long marketing campaigns cost a lot of money, distract the team from developing the game and have backfired in recent years. People seem to get really cynical and turn on the game if they have to wait too long.

EA seems to have scaled down marketing in general. I think they will try the "Fallout 4" approach. Big reveal in Q2 next year and some information in the months before release.

I wonder if the game may have gone through a rewrite.

The whole deal with Chris Schlerf combined with Bioware being unusually tight-lipped compared to previous games, is a little suspicious.

Maybe they finally read one of the many threads about the plot holes in the ME trilogy and realized that they need to do better this time around?

"We have altered the plot Mr Schlerf, pray we don't alter it again."

I'm just crossing my fingers that whatever may have happened we still end up with something good.

Being silent about Schlerf is suspicious, but not opening the floodgates of info/advertisements a full year before release is not.

That only works when you're Blizz or Bethesda and can sell games without even trying.

The game is slated for a holiday 2016 release and will most likely get pushed into 2017 if Bioware asks for it. EA will kickstart the hype train in due time.

Right now, personally more hyped about titles like Uncharted 4 early spring 2016.

They're cautious because they'll reveal it's an MMO.

Anyone who think this game is coming out in 2016 is a delusional baboon. Its getting pushed back 100 percent guaranteed.

This is why I wished they officially revealed the game next year at E3...although I'd laugh if it does happen to make the release next year. Beyond leaks, we have no concrete info besides the character shown in the trailer is not the players character.

Doesn't this game come out in around a year?

A full marketing campaign would be holiday awards show trailer, spring magazine info dump, and a push starting at E3 leading up to release.

EA has been doing tighter marketing campaigns as well.

Especially with Fallout 4 stealing all the oxygen.

It might be that they're cautious about revealing too much to early, as they've been burnt before by early revelations, that have changed before the game came out.

An annoying example would be in Inquisition, where they said beforehand that there would be no hard level cap in the game, yet, as we've discovered with the additional XP brought by the DLCs, there IS a hard cap; you stop gaining experience from all sources just before you'd gain level 28.

(Don't know why they decided to put in a hard cap after all, as nobody seems to like it - including the developers if the earlier interview about the absence of a hard level cap is to be believed.)

So maybe they are going with "Say as little as possible early on, and you won't end up promising things that you can't live up to". Maybe not a bad policy.

Romours says nothing about that, but if it is an MMO it will probly be the last thing they publish in the mass effect franchise. Personally i think its not an mmo.

DAI was supposed to be an MMO at first so don't rule it out completely just yet.

First of all, source. Second, why would BioWare make another sci-fi MMO to compete with their other, fledgling MMO? Why would they even think it a good idea when they couldn't make Star Wars into a high-tier MMO?

Not sure about MMO but I guess this is what's being referred to:
