No, of course not.

That was the original intention for them.

Lotta people had success putting a shotgun onto their infiltrators.  Alliance Infiltrator Unit is a close quarter infiltrator

Aren't infiltrators more of long range combat and vanguards specializing in close quarter combat?

Heard another rumor that the rumored squad member Cora/Kora is blonde.

If true, I'm happy.  There's a chance that there won't be an Asari squadmate.

The blue girls will tell you themselves that they aren't built for the front lines.  I want squaddies from tough rugged races for my dangerous exploration journey.

I want a jealous crew member to kill my beloved, but not till right at the end and then have to buy DLC to hunt them down and kill them with a fancy one liner.

At least 2 squadmates should be DLC and the others should all be able to die.

We need more badazzes in the vein of Zaeed.

An ex-merc would fit perfectly into a voyage.

LOL Kai Leng the space ninja! Yeah... we definitely need him again, he was so.... well fitting in space... a ninja in.. space... yeah.... that worked out well :D

I was disappointed there was not one Indiana Jones reference with one of those space ninjas showing off and then Shepard just shoots them.

For real, though, the space ninja business didn't actually bother me one bit. Shepard had an omni-tool blade/whatever for close quarters, so Kai Leng is allowed a sword, I guess.

As for ideas... I'll come up with a profile of my own later when I can, but I would love a male quarian of some kind. I've been re-playing the trilogy and just adore Kal'Reegar, Admiral Zaal'Koris, Admiral Han'Gerrel and Veetor'Nara.  :wizard:

Fun topic :) , here's mine;

Name:  Manter Acilraka

Species: Turian

Profession/Class: Bounty Hunter/Vanguard

Spoiler

Manter is the bare-faced bounty hunter with a big mouth. His crude humor and his comments offend just about everyone in your team. Even with a Krogan pressing a gun to his head, Manter will still make time to insult his species and will do so with a big smile on his face. He's an equal opportunist about it though, he's considered an outsider to his own race anyway so he has no problem making racist remarks or jokes about Turians either.

Turians are generally known to be rigid and duty-focused. Manter? Not so much. He's a smart-ass with no loyalty to his "people", or to you if you don't pay him. Nothing makes him more happy than to get a rise out of people. Well, maybe booze...women, credits...killing...he can't make his mind up about the order. You need him because you need a team member with his impressive body count, he's really good at killing bad guys and he kills them real quick. He isn't thrilled about the idea of working with a team or even working for anyone else but the amount of credits you offer is too good to pass up.  He takes up the temporary mercenary role but he makes it clear that he's here for the money, not to play happy families;

Manter: That's it? No asking about my culture or my species? I'm feeling a little left out commander.

Ryder: <_<

Manter: Come on, ask me! I could have a tragic backstory or I might say something really deep and insightful!

Ryder: ...*walks out*

Manter:  You sure you don't want to hear about my daddy issues!

The guy is an incredibly skilled vanguard and lets you know about it. He's all about the close-range combat, fast kills and likes to show off with an audience around (that's you and the other squad-mate by the way). He's personal arc might not be about him becoming more tolerant of other races or learning to put his personal needs to the side. He's still a selfish pr*ck but he's a selfish pr*ck that gradually befriends you, whether he realizes it or not.

Name: Ellen Foster -"Lady Foster"- Adept

Race: Human

Appearance: Ellen is a very slim build, partially as a result of the enhanced metabolism biotics are well-known for, and partially through her generally active "lifestyle" (battle, training etc.) She has little endowment in terms of what many people tend to distinguish as *ahem* feminine "assets" though Ellen cares little about such matters. She is 5"8 and has her hair cut at a short length in order to maintain practicality in combat. Her eyes are an almost ghostly translucent blue, and her features are gentle yet well defined. She is white-Caucasian. She has a small scar going across the bridge of her nose. She doesn't bother to wear much make-up as she feels no obligation to impress anyone. In combat, she wears a a black catsuit (similar to an N7 fury yet the cowl is looser and she wears no mask unless needed)

personality: Ellen maintains a cold detachment in combat, willing to perform brutal acts that even shocks most gang leaders and mercenaries. She is highly secretive (Some people believe her name to be an alias) and is quite introverted as a person, only being honest to those few she deems trustworthy. While she may give the initial impression that she hates whoever she's speaking to, she secretly holds nothing against those she doesn't know, and only uses this manner to intimidate people who may provide her with any information that she may need or want. Torture is not a tactic she likes, yet will easily perform such brutal acts as a last resort. She is extremely loyal to those she holds dear.

She dislikes "nosy" squadmates and shows no open interest into finding out about them any more than necessary, and will disapprove of the player trying to gain insight into her past.

Background synopsis: As a child, Ellen grew up on a border colony in Andromeda system and lived a generally mundane life until her biotic abilities manifested around the age of 12. What was unknown to the colony was that multiple Alliance agents were planted on the colony looking to recruit able-bodied possible soldiers to strengthen humanities' presence in among the council races. Of course, when news of a young biotic arose around the colony, she was immediately scoped out. she and her parents were given an offer to enlist Ellen when she hit legal age (18).

During the 6 years given to decide, Ellen, being young and naive, told a few people on the colony about her condition and because of this, she was discriminated against and abused by those she originally deemed loved ones and peers. Her father turned to alcoholism and her mother became overly protective of Ellen. Eventually, the family broke, and her father (in a drunken rage) killed her mother and tried to attack Ellen. the Alliance intervened and took Ellen in under special circumstances. under alliance care, Ellen learned to hone her abilities and eventually earn the rank of N7, though her personality altered to form a secretive, brutal streak. Ellen developed an impressive military record over a few years, always producing results though as a result of her ruthless methods. After an instance where she tore apart a commanding officer for using her past against her, she was dishonorably discharged and sent to military prison, though she shortly escaped after a year due to an offer from the shadow broker. Her history was wiped, her true name was erased and from then on she created a name for herself as "lady Foster". It is unknown whether she still affiliates herself with the shadow broker, though at the moment she seems to be occupied as a freelance mercenary/ bounty hunter. The player can recruit her by offering a contract. It is also noted that throughout her service in the military she gained a contact known as "whistle-blower"

Combat:

Ellen uses reave as a form of priming and gaining a layer of protection and health regeneration. Warp is also a priming ability and potential detonator. pull is an ability she uses to manipulate enemy positions. Her loyalty skill is strip where she causes a scything bolt of energy to peel layers off of enemies. This tends to severely damage shields and barriers (though this is near useless for armor). If the enemy has no protection then the victim is often left a mess of skin, muscle tissue and organs. She is also able to traverse the battlefield with short range biotic teleportation.

She uses pistols and SMG's

Loyalty mission:

Foster will approach the player and ask them to go to a small asteroid orbiting the sun of the solar system. It will noticeably have small modifications, such as an entry tunnel. When the PC and Foster get there, the supposed hideout will be empty. Ellen will admit that she hadn't received word from whistleblower in a while and she felt that he was compromised, which is correct. through analysis of surveillance footage, it will be found that he was kidnapped, though whistleblower is shown to be wearing a fully concealed outfit so his actual features are unknown.

Foster will then make you land across multiple seemingly mundane planets and settlements to abduct the kidnappers of whistleblower and then transport all of them back to the hideout. The player will then have to watch as Foster drops her cool demeanor and her darker elements are exposed. She will torture the kidnappers for information to the point where they beg for death. She will then be ready to fulfill that request when she finds that they won't be giving her any

information.

-A paragon interrupt will be available to which the player can stop her from killing them and in appreciation, give the information Foster needs, revealing that the kidnappers made a deal with a Khet cult. The kidnappers will be let go.

It will result in the player and Foster having to wipe out the entire cult to get to the whistleblower (who is caged and strapped), who will turn out to be an ex-alliance hacker who left at the same time that Foster was discharged. He will promise to repay Foster and the player, though she will deny any credit. The player will then gain her loyalty, though the player can gain an extreme increase in her approval if the PC persuades the whistleblower to set up hideout at the bottom of the ship. If this is achieved, unique dialogue options and resources will be gained (e.g. armour, credits, weapons etc.) Foster will then be dedicated to the PC regardless of choice.

She will also give The PC more insight into her past than she ever would have before.

-Alternatively, if Foster is allowed to kill the kidnappers, no information will be gained and after three missions she will dig up the cult arrangement. When the Pc and her fight through the colony, it will turn out that the whistleblower was sacrificed, leading to a surpriseingly angry Foster. It can be said that only a half-loyalty will be gained as she will later on acknowledge the fault of her decision to kill the kidnappers and may even partially blame the player for not stopping her.

Romance:

Foster will evade any advances made...at first. She will become overly protective of the player before realizing that the player can look after themselves. (Romance is only attainable if the whistleblower is alive)
She is bisexual and therefore can be romanced by either gender.

I know these are just ideas, but wouldn't this be unfair towards Renegade players? Seems like they would get screwed over.

Yup, but that's the general principle I'm considering. I don't like the idea of different approaches having similar outcomes.

An example: if you tell a child to clean their room and in return, they get a cookie. If they don't clean it, they shouldn't just get the cookie anyways.

This is the principle I am following. I like the idea that how some narrative points can have drastically different outcomes depending on the choices we make.

But in summary, yes, renegade players are at a disadvantage in this instance :P

Might introduce a few squaddies who may have that same principle but with different choices ;)

Feel free to do the same

Since it's going to be a long journey to reach Andromeda (I'm guessing), why don't we bring along Buzz Aldrin to tell us one more story about 'The Shepard'?

Why did the two LI threads get booted??

Well.. I'll say it here then. I want a squadmate who actively pursues me, also during missions, I don't find it unprofessional, no no pursue me please, I love being pursued! :P Make comments during missions and such. Other squadmates can make comments on the relationship for example.

Bioware should really change their tactics when writing characters this time, make them more aggressively, don't make them pansy fansies who's afraid of our PC! xD

Most of the posts in this thread have been devoted to defining a new character for Andromeda, and that's fine; some great ideas are being suggested here.

In terms of squadmate ideas, I'd like to suggest that squadmates can play a greater role. I mentioned this in another thread and feel it can be useful to add to the discussion in this thread as well. For example:

I'd like to have a dialog wheel where we can only chose to have one (or both) of our squadmates reply to a question or comment. Our squaddies have such rich background and character depth that we should hear more from them when handling situations. The opportunity for comical humor from a squaddie could be wonderful. On a mission replay, the squaddie could say something different in the same situation to add some variety.

One of the aspects about Zaeed that I liked were all the stories he told (about his previous exploits) to Shepard during shipboard conversations. Some of his stories could have been put to effective use during other missions:

Zaeed:  "Shepard... see that guard off to the far right? Lemme get around him and knock him out with ol' Bessie.

She's really good at that - and slices and dices them up pretty good too!"

Shepard's Dialog Wheel Options:

* Paragon: Just knock him out cold. I want him alive. We need intel right now, not bodies.

Edit: After Zaeed 'knocks out' the guard, the guard dies anyway.

Zaeed later explains to Shepard: "Sorry he died, Shepard. Bessie had other ideas."

* Neutral: Just take him out quietly. Nothing fancy. Got it?

* Renegade: I gotta see that. Go enjoy yourself! :D

Giving squadmates more opportunities to act on their own, instead of simply setting a marker for them to hold position during a fight, would be really great. Our squadmates are capable in a fight, so let them do something while we watch it happen. Afterwards, we progress the mission further. Seems like it also would add to the variety of conversations when back on the ship, talking about the mission as an after-action report. There was a team conversation on the Normandy SR-1 (ME-1) after rescuing Liara on Therum. Several teammates had points to make that Shepard needed to hear. I liked that aspect to that scene. I hope we can see squaddies put to more effective use in Andromeda.

Name: Elon Vamur "The salarian of song"-sentinel (malleable)

Race: Salarian

Background synopsis:

Elon was born of a prestigious family, and therefore was expected to carry out that exact standard. He has been gifted with the highest education the STG can buy, and found his flare for music. he excelled through many musical leagues, and was even once an actor. Of course, he developed a hyper-inflated ego which made him hated by many, though with all the wealth he had accumulated he had no reason to care. A notable trait that grabbed the public's attention is the rumour that his parents also injected his egg with eezo, and that he was born with a deformation which rendered him in need for cybernetic modification. Both rumors turn out to be true.
Instead of the player having to seek him out, he will be the one to try and recruit you as his personal bodyguard, sending a rather snobbish email. the player can them confront him in his personal mansion and state that if anyone is being recruited, its Elon. he will surprisingly comply and then becomes a squadmate, though he tries to construct rather unfair terms that skew in his favor thought the player will wuickly shoot that down. He is now in your squad.

Appearance:

Elon is 5"9 with the standard thin salarian build. Elon has a prosthetic limb (right arm) with an in-built omni-tool and half of his face is covered by a vertical-half helmet, though it is implied that this is more for aesthetic purpose rather than combat purpose. He wears a flashy luminous green jumpsuit which has been designed specifically more for form than utility, though it fulfills both of these principles (more for form though).
Out of combat, he wears no helmet and a simple yet luxurious suit. His skin is a moderate shade of green with small shining golden flecks, which Elon has due to extensive dermatological modification to show off his status and attract a female with equal prodigy. Being a young Salarian (19 to be exact) he has no hint of wrinkles, though he may have had dermatological modiifcation for that aswell.

Personality:

As far as the term egomaniac goes, he fulfills the criteria in every sense. He is overzealous, snobbish, and domineering. He will occasionally send the player emails stating that he would like a pay rise or that he would like a more spacious room, which can either be agreed to for his approval and annoyance of the other squadmates, or declined to his annoyance. He does however, sing renditions of french songs in the mess hall, specifically la vie en rose. the player can compliment him on this for his approval and may this will eventually even result in him sending the player personal tapes (even dirty, graphic tapes or pictures to a female PC). Speaking of which, he can also be said to be perverse as a character which is uncharacteristic for a typical salarian due to their conventional lack of a sex drive, though he has had modification in that sense aswell. hew on't be flirtatious towards a male PC, though he will explain that he has "tried a few things out just to make sure".
Inside he is actually quite confused about certain issues (which will be brought up in the loyalty mission)

Loyalty mission:

His mission is simple and holds a permanent impact on Elon as a character. He will email the player to meet up with him in his cabin. When the player asks him what is wrong, he will mention that he holds a complex about his abilities. He will give an in-depth explanation of how he actually has a vulnerability/complex about his falsity, biotic, and cybernetics.

He will ask the player which he should specialize in (biotics, tech, or tell him it's his own choice)

Four scenarios can ensue:

-The player tells him to be more biotics oriented-he does so

-The player can tell him to be more tech-oriented-he does so

-The player tells him it is his own choice-He will randomly pick

-The player can alternatively tell him that they don't have time for this crap, and he can "f*** off if he can't keep his s*** together"-This results in him leaving and later on being shown to have continued pursuing his music career.

Combat:

Elon utilizes tech armor to "keep his armor free of scratches". Throw is used to harass enemies and send them flying. Overload strips their defenses. his loyalty skill is either:

                                                                      -flare (Biotic)

-concussive wave (he modifies his cybernetic limb. This attack is when he punches the ground so that a shockwave can launch enemies into the air and inflict heavy damage)

he uses snipers and pistols

Romance:

He is able to be romanced by a female character. this can be initiated by responding to his flirtations, in which his domineering/snobbish exterior can either be "cracked" or encouraged because it "brings a buzz". From then on he will send the players gifts for decorating her cabin as well as performing personal songs for her.

Like you, space ninja doesn't bother me a lot. A poorly written of any archetype does bother me a great deal. A poorly written Space Samurai will bother me just as much as a poorly written space ninja would.  I do kindva wish that within the Citadel DLC we would have a Sword Mastery Melee Upgrade to out Kai Leng  Kai Leng and Prove to T.I.M that Shepard is even a better Kai Leng. Yes I do like Kai Leng(the book version is better).

Name: Arkus (face name) / Bringer of Light in Battle (soul name)

Race: Hanar

Gender: N/A

Class: Sentinel

Favorite Weapon: Geth Plasma Shotgun

Special Skills: Combat Drone, Throw, Tech Armor, AI Hacking

Where They Sleep: in a fish tank

Catchphrase: "Enkindle This!" / "Feel the Jellyfish Sting!"

Backstory: Arkus was born on the hanar/drell colony on Abastra, one of the Andromeda planets where the hanar chose to build a colony. When he was around 10 years old, there was an accident involving one of the colony's mass effect power sources. Most of the colony was destroyed. A gang of Eclipse mercenaries was traveling by Abastra and saw the explosion. They went to investigate the explosion to see if there was anything salvageable. They found Arkus under some rubble, near death. The Eclipse gang's XO, an asari named Rhetia nursed him back to health and convinced the leader to keep Arkus around and teach him to be a tech/mechanic.

When he was 12 years old, Rhetia was showing Arkus some element zero containment units and one accidentally exploded. Arkus was incredibly traumatized when this happened, remembering how his family were killed. Rhetia, however was amazed because during the explosion she noticed that Arkus created a biotic shield, which protected them from the blast, saving them from certain death. She realized that he must have gotten these biotic abilities from the accident in Abastra. Afterward, Rhetia trained Arkus in biotic and tech abilities. As his tech knowledge progressed he started modifying weapons. His favorite is a Geth Plasma Shotgun he modified to make it easier for him to use.

The Eclipse sisters respect Arkus, seeing him as a little brother and are always trying to help him with his biotic and tech abilities. The Eclipse Captain, Elira, tries to treat all members of the Eclipse with the same demeanor but is sometimes harder on Arkus, which makes the rest of the Eclipse sisters try to protect him that much more. Elira agreed to help Arkus by investigating other hanar colonies that were destroyed. While investigating those colonies, he found a vid collection of an ancient hanar named Blasto. The Eclipse sisters and Arkus often watch the vids together, so much that even some asari will yell "Enkindle This!" when in combat with other mercenary bands.

Because he was raised with Eclipse mercenaries, Arkus' young mind learned to speak vulgarly just like the other mercs. He has been with them for so long that he does not feel insulted when they call him a "jellyfish" or any other insult regarding the hanar species. Arkus has a certain hatred for the Hanar Illuminated Primacy as he found out by the other mercs that the accident on Abastra was caused by improper equipment that the colony was provided by the Primacy and because other hanar and drell colonies suffered the same fate as Abastra because of the carelessness of the Primacy. However, he still holds on to some of the teachings of the Enkindlers, but not as devoutly as most hanar.

Arkus is 22 when the PC tries to recruit him, appealing to him to help forge a better universe for all species, hanar included. At first Arkus refuses, wanting to stay with the Eclipse sisters that have protected him since the accident on Abastra. However, Elira and Rhetia convince Arkus that he can't live his whole life in a shell and he needs to explore the universe and see what life has to offer him.

Why you bring them along: Unlike most hanar, Arkus does not have a high regard for proper speech. Though still saying "This one" when referring to himself in the first person, Arkus has developed an interesting repertoire of insults in all species' native languages. He likes to think he can insult a batarian so bad as to make him cry from all 4 eyes.
