They totally change the dynamic of the usual sprint ahead non stop to complete the level asap.  The Bolter levels are challenging and actually often take resources (Healing, rock armour) and some strategy.

A good well equipped group should be able to take them down efficiently and this happens the odd time but most of the time even with a strong team players still try and face rush these guys.

Three cheers for Bolters!

You are absolutely right.

(And don't be surprised when you get kicked out of the lobby)

I despise how much they slow down the game. They are fine on normal maps, but on FC wave 4 its a horrid experience. Camping is so boring

I agree about the game slowing down but it is only for one level and it eliminates the out and out 'I am such and awesome fighter I can face rush everything!'

I do get a bit of perverse satisfaction of players who have been romping over everything crawling on the ground going over here! while they are in the middle of a mob.  (And hey I have been that guy before!)

Hmm.. I haven't actually used the assassin yet since getting Mercy.. I just realized how awesome she would be with auto crit from stealth and stealth on kill! I'm playing her next when I get home from work :D

Play assassin.

... or use A Little Knight Music, or Rock Armor Tonic, or have a Saarebas spam barrier, or play an Avvar with Chilled Defense, or play a Reaver with Rampage, etc.  There are plenty of strategies that don't rely on camping.

While I like all these except Chilled defense, the bolter KD is an issue for those of us without PI, and the subsequent stagger lock is what ends up killing rather than direct damage.

As for Avvar, it is more reliable to abuse Bear Mauls the Wolves's recent buff and turn one's back to the bolters rather than try to rely on CD / defenses. Guaranteed 1 damage per hit is far more reliable than maybe reducing the enemy damage enough to survive it.

War Horn is also quite nice vs Bolters. They're vulnerable to every type of CC AND they're naturally slow.

War Cry on SS/Lego is pretty fantastic too. Lego has WF for invincibility too. Used to be soo much more OP though (until the nerf)

Camping is simply the most reliable way to do things. Not the only way, but certainly the most repeatable results.

That said, I don't always do it. As I recommended to Reading, play Assassin (or hunter, etc) for a very different Anti-Camp experience that handles bolters quite nicely.

I didn't used to be a fan of Chilled Defense either.  I have a newfound respect for it since playing Heartbreaker though.  I also don't have an Amulet of Physical Immunity, and I don't have issues with being murdered from chain knockdown.  Bear Mauls the Wolves is certainly another good way to stay up too.

Right, because turning one's back to the enemy is a sure-fire way to kill it. Furthermore, good luck turning around while stagger-locked. Where's that Brave Sir Robin clip again?

Chilled Defense vs BMTW is a false dichotomy. Get both.

If all else fails, confusion grenade, problem solved...for a bit.

Just for the additional, the only thing I've ever disliked about bolters is their RoF (that & having them with the veilfire objective), if that was lower, but their actual damage per shot was increased they would be an enjoyable, but tough enemy as they do make you change tact.

That's all I've got to say on this.

I think they're the best unit type.

Actually adds a bit of a challenge.

Bolters don't bother me much. I've learned to hang back and provide support to the puggers who think they can tank the bolters. Interestingly, it's not the bolters that get 'em, it's the assassins that do the real damage. They get surrounded by 3-4 assassins and that's when the real trouble starts. When I notice puggers running in like they got it, I roll in behind them to take care of the annoying assassins.

However, I've also noticed that matches get exceedingly more difficult when no one wants to take on the bolters...everyone sits back and before long you've got 6 bolters on your doorstep while everyone is dicking with the assassins. *sigh*

I think bolters are fine as they were and they still are, it's everything else that accompanies them that slow down runs on fc zone 4. Earthshakers are immune to basically all elements besides lightning, but have very high hp. Same goes for stalkers who seem to ambush/flank in groups. Imo, there should be bolters in all zones just to keep players from being overconfident and zealous.

I'm talking about the silent sisters, reavers, AW's in pugs who don't use their brains rather rely on their class to do the work for them. Zone 4 darkspawn are fun because there was actual los, position placement, taking place. You don't find that against other factions.

I always loved the bolters, have no idea why everyone was crying about them.

My favourite is zone 4 bolters and Veil Fire Challenge.

My favorite thing to do to bolters in SP was with my knight-enchanter mage.  I always got a kick out of spirit-blading their bolts back at them and watching them hit the floor.  But I hate AW in MP so I've never tried it, so I have no clue if it would even work in MP.  The lack of firemine is disturbing.
