You don't really have a point unless they are the exact same people (they arent.)

The Halo fan in me is conflicted. The male is voiced by the man who voices Roland and the female is voiced by the woman who voices Selina.

My point is that there is a cycle around here of "don't do what this person might want, do what I want" and using Bethesda is funny since people were complaining so much about Dragon Age: inquisition being too much like Skyrim.

Because Skyrim is still eldersscrolls this why people like it. DA:I is not Dragon age anymore but try to be elderscrolls and fail. It would be funny if Fallout 4 would do dragon age better than dragon age.

Yeah... it'd be pretty funny to have darkspawn and dragons running around in FO4, all right.

No, but you can select gender in it.

They should market every single feature in the trailer? And they didn't even show you that you can choose your gender. They showed two people in the same outfit doing different things.

Look the trailer had a nice representation of both the male and female protag and it worked. Bioware has always been pro this, so why can't they manage the same? Why do they make seperate trailers, when they could make one that accomplishes what two trailers could do. I am tired and it sounded alot better in my head. Also abit dizzy after looking at that booty.

Again, Bethesda can market Fallout 4 any way they want and it will sell like crazy. BioWare doesn't have that luxury.

It's a feature, so it should be marketed.

That's moronic. They literally can't market every feature. Nor should they.

Just like exploration, vehicular gameplay, etc...

You mean things that impact every player and not just a minority of players? It's great that the gender option is there, but it's not as important as core gameplay features.

I don't think anything about who cares about what, I'm juste saying that game features should be reflected in the marketing, if a game has a fixed defined protagonist, then the marketing should reflect that.

You mean you think they should market the female protag because you want them to market the female protag.

Q: Do you think a substantial amount of male players would abandon the franchise if females were included alongside male protags in trailers?

A: No.

Q: Do you think more female gamers might play the game if they were aware they could play as a female in game?

A: Yes.

That's pretty much what my brain asks when this topic comes up.

BSN early 2011: "BioWare is bad for focusing on Miranda's ass".

I'm pretty sure there are more fans of her ass than not.

Don't pay attention to Tumblr type of posts.

Same goes to Bioware themselves. Stop it.

How is it moronic to talk about that is in your game ?

You mean you think they should market the female protag because you want them to market the female protag.

No, I think they should market what is present in their game, period.

Again though, why do you ask yourself the second question? Does it matter? Why do you care if people other than yourself are or aren't going to play it? I get the argument about it being a feature in the game, so it should be marketed, I don't get the argument about other people (particularly women) purchasing/not purchasing the game.

So pandering to horny teenagers is much better than SWJs then.

The company I like selling well is good for me? I like the idea broader fanbase reflective of more ideas/attitudes? I like the idea of the gaming industry doing a little to break down gender stereotypes? I dunno really.

I'm mid 30s personally. I don't even romance Miranda, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like ass shots.

I'd rather be sincere than full of ****. That's all.

The Fallout 4 trailer was exactly what I'd want from a BioWare trailer. Both male and female version of the protagonist visible and recognizable. Something like that would have had me buy ME 1 much, much earlier than when I buyed it (when even ME2 had been already out for months)

Many RPG don't give the chance to play a female character, even less games that aren't point and click adventures. The chance to have a female protagonist is a big deal for many female players,

Playng a female protagonist is one of the reasons I have started playng BioWare's and Bethesda's RPGs. If it wasn't for this feature, I would still play only platforms and point and click adventures exclusively.

*groans out loud at the 2nd last sentence*

In my wholly unscientific and statistically insignificant experience people mentioning gender stereotypes are the people most likely to stereotype based on gender... And forget things like the existence of age, sexuality, nation, religious/nonreligious, foodtaste, smoker, handicap discrimination and so forth. -..-

Fair enough, I don't get it, but fair enough. The only question I ask myself when I see a videogame trailer is "Does it look fun?" It wouldn't even occur to me to ask "Will women buy this game?" or "Does this game represent different genders fairly/equally?" Or anything regarding social attitudes. Videogames are entertainment to me, not a political tool or some such thing.

That's sexist. Ok for real, you should play games with male characters they not magically make you less female. You don't know if you like until you try. Some of my most favourite games have female as main character and I would have lost a lot if not played them. In most cases gender of character don't even mater.

It's weird. Not merely sexist.

There are so many good games out there, with different (forced) genders. I'd be cutting myself off if I didn't play them, merely because of some political reason. But I don't do that, because I like games. I don't care if it's Tomb Raider or Beyond Good and Evil or something female centric like that. Those are great games. GAMES.

I play and played many games with male lead. Never in RPGs. Having the chance to have an actual female character in an action role, an actual fighter, not "just" someone who can use her brain was quite addctive.

Yes, considering that these people can't be pleased. They're professional critics, that's what they do, criticize, they have no interest in what a game/film/TV show does well. They only care about seeing the bad in everything. If they're whining about something, and you then correct/remove it, they will just find something else to take issue with.

"Pandering" to SJWs is akin to a farmer protecting the locusts that are destroying his produce. Once the locusts have consumed everything, they will move on to destroy something else, whilst the farmer's actual customers will have also moved on (since the produce is destroyed) and the farmer will be left with nothing. There's no upside to catering to those people.

Fair, I don't really get your PoV either. But kudos to us both for being civil about it.
