Trailer looked promising. One of the things that has kept me from enjoying Bethesda games was a lack of voiced protagonist (and the general lack of story.) I have a bit of hope now. I'll wait a few weeks and get the reviews to ensure Bethesda isn't releasing yet another broken game and FO4 has a worthwhile story to go with the gameplay.
Fallout 4 launch trailer had both genders in its trailer

First of all, yes. Second, they could market Fallout 4 with CGI penguins humping in the desert and it would sell like hotcakes. Mass Effect doesn't have that luxury. Fallout is in the top tier of game franchises. Mass Effect can't even dream of reaching those heights. Especially not when the next installment is a soft reboot of the series that's following one of the most controversial and mocked games ever.
And here we have is a BioWare fan. Fan is derivative of the word fanatic which has its origins from the Latin word fanaticus.
The BioWare fan's natural predator, is constructive criticism. When the fan feels threatened it will get up on its hind legs and urinate all over the initiator as to assert its dominance and domain in the vain hope that the predator will retreat. Even if it fails the BioWare fan will continue to fight back stubbornly until its own demise.

Ah I was wondering if there was already talk about this. Since I remember suggesting that ME:A could have trailer with two main protagonists, but people were shooting it down as too confusing. I think Fallout 4's trailers approach was quite much best possible. It showed you that you can play with both genders so you don't need to use google to try find out that info about game yourself. I don't think it was confusing either. Bethesda really did good trailer with that one, showed story, showed setting, showed gameplay, showed you character and so on.

This seems more of a thread to rail against Bioware than a Mass Effect specific thread.
DA: I switched it up almost every trailer. They had years to cover for DAI and have over a year for Mass Effect. They'll need those different trailers to fill out space.
Fallout 4, did the smart thing and, only announced a few months before release so they have less trailers to fill out the space. Besides, they used the female protag in ONE trailer. It's hardly a crowning achievement in equality. Still a cool trailer and I appreciated having both in there, especially have the female protag saying the seemingly iconic line with the dog. It was a nice touch. Bethesda has clearly taken notice of fan feedback.

IT wouldn't be a BSN thread if it wasn't railing against Bioware.

The new trailer was really well done. It's nice to see the woman being given equal billing. I get tired of having to search out information on whether or not a game will allow me to play as a woman as that choice in an RPG determines whether I will even consider buying the game. I'm also looking forward to the improved companion system FO4 is implementing. Let's hope it lives up to the hype!

Fallout 4 is just a filler for Star Wars Battlefront, Rainbow Six Siege, Division, Uncharted 4, MEA, and whatever else. When it comes to Bethesda games, great graphics, lore, and open world. That's it. When it comes to a story, or a follower that's actually meaningful, they're just total dumbasses at it.

Both genders where present, along with talking, and hardly anyone was confused. So what will your next excuse be Bioware?
Has Bioware ever actually made any excuse?

Yeah, but it didn't have a transgender manticore that sexually identifies with mayonnaise, so once again the video game industry proves that it just doesn't "get it."

I suspect that MEA will attempt to do a better job than they have in the past of giving both genders their due in advertising. Some of the concept art released already indicates this direction, although the posing of the woman in that pic left some room for improvement. Additionally, if DAI is any indication of MEA's marketing, both genders will be featured. All these complaints about the gender imbalance in the marketing appear to be having a positive impact and have made for better games overall.

Anyone remember when entertainment's main purpose was to entertain? Fallout 4 is set in post-apocalyptic world people. The Apocalypse doesn't care about gender, it cares about the annihilation of all life. In fact The Apocalypse seems to be a lot more relaxed about gender than anyone on this forum. In a few days I am going to kill mutants with a shoulder-mounted nuke catapult and be having a "blast" while doing it.

I did enjoy Fallout 4's "What makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L" trailer where they explain the attributes.

I always felt Bioware should focus on the customisation aspect (appearance, gameplay, personality, moral choices). It's one of their strengths. That and great party members and emotional stuff. Their trailers tend to do this stuff now, though they could put it on the back of the box too. I noticed the DAI box didn't say a word about customisation or choices, just that you would lead an organisation to battle a great evil or something.
I don't need the advertising, personally. I'm already sold on ME, DA and whatever new franchise they might put out. But ME & DA have brought me so much joy over the years, and I really want other people to experience that. When I first saw a trailer for ME1, I thought 'oh, it's about a guy in space. Look, there's an alien'. It wasn't until I saw my brother playing it, that I saw the dialogue options, the fact he'd made a custom character, the fact he could recruit a squad of wonderful characters, have biotics/tech abilities in addition to just shooting things, make big choices etc. Even without the 'I can play a woman' angle, that was a huge selling point for me. So I wanted the game. Stands to reason it would be for others too. So I want them to know about it without having to Google upcoming game releases.
Plus, the bigger the fanbase grows, the better for Bioware, surely?

Q: Do you think a substantial amount of male players would abandon the franchise if females were included alongside male protags in trailers?
A: No.
Q: Do you think more female gamers might play the game if they were aware they could play as a female in game?
A: Yes.
That's pretty much what my brain asks when this topic comes up.
Rather than abandon franchise it seems like showing both genders might reel more in. Well, at least if they show female protagonist from behind... ^^;

I think the excuses are based on BioWare saying the reason why the early previews of Dragon Age: Inquisition were all male based character was that they didn't have a working female model working in game yet. Of course that was around a year before release and when they went to E3 in 2015 they had a 30min demo that they were showcasing the Female Qunari.

Entertainment for who though? Are games just for men or are women included in that entertainment? For me, being able to play as a woman in a game impacts my entertainment. Women have been under represented in games and are too often portrayed offensively when they are depicted. These types of depictions drove me away from gaming. Now that women are getting better treatment by developers such as Bioware and Bethesda, I've come back to gaming. I'm happy that their advertising is starting to reflect that fact that they are putting effort into making great women protagonists so that other women like me will be entertained by their games.
