Not really, find it quite amusing seeing different people's opinions on which some are worth agreeing to.

Yeah...We should focus on the terrible story of the entire game instead.

I posted an idea of how to make the endings more palatable, and all I got was bashed.

My idea was to use "headcanon" to fill in the blanks, because it's YOUR Shepard, and each one is unique.

Case in point, my Shepard is a Vanguard, my friend's Shepard is an Infiltrator.

See?  They're already different.

He likes using sniper rifles, I like using shotguns.

*GASP*  Another difference?  Does this mean that, Maker forbid, that WE HAVE DIFFERENT PLAYSTYLES?  DIFFERENT LIKES?

He has a different headcanon than I do.  OH NO, THAT'S IT, HE'S WRONG, BECAUSE IT ISN'T WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE!

I feel like I've just shown them how to make a delicious sandwich, provided the best ingredients, and a nice, flat surface to make it on, and they still complain that their hungry.

It doesn't bother me that some hate the ending, and it doesn't bother me that others hate the Indoctrination Theory.

What bothers me is when they ask for ways to fix it, you show up and provide a way to fix it, and then they bash you because it requires them to think.

But, I'm going to assume optimism and say that I guess they enjoy the ending by being grumpy about it.  And the more grumpy they spread, the happier they are?

Eh, it's my Shepard, and I like my happy ending.

i beat mass effect yesterday and i gotta say the IT is possibly plausible as i like to pay attention to every detail. but anyways the ending didnt give me that feeling of closure so i downloaded JAM and MEHEM and i am more satisfied now. although i have a obsession with this games characters and my shepards LI...

my feelings on the end since i feel that harbinger was trying his hardest to indoctrinate shepard reason why he is trying is because shepard is a symbol of hope  for everyone and if he was indoctrinated well i have a feeling everyone would give up hope and or harbinger would use shepard to group everyone together for extermination of advanced civilization.

anyways I think the star child is harbinger and harbinger which is the first reaper which i have a feeling that if harbinger died it would mean death for all reapers. and the only way in which harbinger can make it for shepard to become indoctrinated is to give shepard the ability to destroy him which in turn means destruction of all reapers. because harbinger is trying to save the reapers he tries to keep shepard away from using the destroy option and gives shepard instead a chance to do control, or synthesis which in turn ends with shepard becoming indoctrinated.

thats my theory i ahvent hammered it all out but thats the start (btw i am not bothered by it as it leads to interesting and possibly plausible ideas)

I think the animations got worse as time went on. Compare Shepard's running animation from the first game to those used in the two follow-ups.

Shepard goes from running somewhat like a human being to that of a arthritic gorilla

I also would like to bring up the graphics changes.  For some reason, ME3 looks worse than two.  ME1 still holds up rather well graphically - but the combat engine has changed significantly - it got better with each iteration.

I would have to agree, Mass Effect 2 is the best looking of the three titles. ME1, especially with the high resolution texture mod, still looks pretty good.

but the combat engine has changed significantly - it got better with each iteration.

Now this I have to completely disagree with. I find the combat in the first game to be the best, smoother and with more options. Not once for example in the first game have I ever gotten stuck on, or entered, cover when I did not want to.

I liked that the dice roll influenced the shooting as much as the ability to place a crosshair. That not to say that I wouldn't have liked to see improvements to the system of course.

I'll stop there as I could rant on for a while. Suffice to say the only combat change I can say I really liked in the following two games was the addition of a seperate melee option.

As someone who is frustrated at the ending, I think it always should be a point of discussion. It demonstrates the depth of feeling and will hopefully remind Bioware that they did make a terrible mistake, at least with part of their fan base.

However, I have finally reached the acceptance stage and am soon to finish my 2nd play through of the game since ME3 was released. I have enjoyed it, although I do acknowledge many of the criticisms of the game above.

The post above I sympathise with the most is that from MichaelN7. I would like to see the discussions of the ending evolve on to how we can create the narrative we want with the endings we have.

I can create a narrative using the game choices for most of the endings. And I would be interested to see more discussion round how people used the game choices to create a story and an ending that they find interesting and workable (if not not ally satisfactory). There are issues with all three endings. For example, does ending the genophage really make sense for the destroy option? There will surely be another Krogan war in the future, even if Wrex survives. Control may be a better option to keep them in check.

Please note this is just an example. And it's these sort of discussions between people who are not too dogmatic that would interest me.

It can also be used as an inspiration for fanfiction for those who are interested. For example, I started a fanfic that would be based on my current Shep choosing control. I believe playing this Shepard will give me inspiration as I continue the story.

The only ending I don't have a satisfactory narrative for is synthesis. However, I don't object to the ending in itself. I am sure there are many who love synthesis. And indeed, I am interested in reading people's view as to how that could turn out, both good and bad. I have read many of the negative views on Synthesis and I agree with them. But I am interested in 1) Seeing more positive or balanced interpretations of what synthesis is and 2) reading about the choices people make to reach the narrative they want to create using Synthesis.

In conclusion, yes we should continue to discuss the endings. But those who hate it irredeemably should allow others who are willing to work with it without silly trolling or flaming.

You know I can do both. I am happy to go on one thread and agree that the ending is completely rubbish. But I would also like to be able to discuss how to use the ending with those prepared to accept it.

Not really, i mean it's a controversial ending, People are going to talk about it. It took me ages to get around to actually finish the game so i was glad there were still conversations going. Plus, it's not only the ending itself that's controversial, there's broken promises, the change in lead writer and that alternative plot that was on the drawing board for awhile so there's quite a lot to talk about.

Also goes to show how attached people are to the franchise and our Shepards. Think it's neat that people are still discussing it.

I found the head turning to be far worse in the third game too. All too often Shepard would get stuck looking at the corning of the room while in conversation with someone.

However I do get the odd bulging eyed look from some of my Shepards, it's like they are about to fall out of their head at any moment.

What I get are conversation partners who twist their head around when I stand behind them. Or Liara moving her head left right, rolling her eyes, like someone fixated her body and she desperately tries to look at me. I move to a position besides Traynor when talking to her, so she doesn´t go all Exorcist at me.

Wonder if it will be like the DA2 situation, everyone complaining about how bad it is and after the next game comes out its "sooo much better". Before DAI everything about DA2 was terrible and the worst thing ever, now DA2 is "actually really good" and Hawke is super popular.

Can't wait to find out

I bet when ME:A comes out the forums will still have people whining about the ME 3 ending.  I don't know if I find that funny or just face palm worthy.  Hell when the fifth game comes out there will still be whining about it.

And why shouldn't they.

People still debate whether Conan Doyle should have brought back Sherlock Holmes after all. Is it really a surprise that people still want to debate the endings to Mass Effect 3.

As I've said before I find the people who want to kill the conversation to be far more annoying that those who want to talk about the endings.

I find it tiresome when trying to have a debate or a simple [fan] conversation to exchange our thoughts about ME on YT or some other forum or real life and there is always someone who starts spamming about the ending. I understand people are still pissed (somehow) and etc but that prevents and ruins interesting debates and conversations, I hate when people are forcing me to hate the ending. Even when talking about the endings they just post some incoherent texts and nonsense, act immaturely, aggressively and with a ton of insults.*

But in my opinion/experience, the number of people bitching* about the ME3 endings are at all time low, looks like most of the people like the EC or simply got over them.

*Debate/talk about the endings - gladly, act like an idiot as if only your opinion matters - stop doing that, you are not achieving anything.

The best thing to do in the situation you describe is to ignore the people trying to take the thread off-topic. It's an old saying but it is true "don't feed the troll". They can't take the thread off-topic on their own, other people need to engage with them.

I don't, because I genuinely can't think positive about anything regarding ME3 when it was literally my biggest disappointing experience in gaming ever (and I've played MANY, MANY games) and the ending being as bad as it was/still is was just the tip of the iceberg. Everything in the game sans some good moments mainly on the normandy or in the shuttles at the beginnign of missions had me wanting to pull my hair out or my face was about to melt from frustration and "how could you sink to this level Biowaaaare!?"

Mac Walters, you've stained the Mass Effect mythology for me.

That said, I relate to you guys, because I was really getting depressed reading all the ME2 hatred coming to this forum and I love ME2.

topics about the ending will continue as long as people care about the story

The fact that people still do is a tribute to how good a job Bioware did previously in the trilogy (mainly in the first 2 games)

@sortiv

I still like your point, "Can we agree to disagree about the ending." Granted, yes, there are good points brought up in this thread and it is kind of fun to talk about them, so it's nice to see this thread flow pretty well actually.

What Get Magna Carter says is how I feel about it pretty much. It's amazing how many of us care. We may go about our response to the endings and the overall story in our own ways; love the endings, make mods, throw a controller through a TV...whatever, but a lot of us care, which I think means Bioware did a really good job overall despite all the nitpicking we do.
