I think we've all been misled about the Blight. I think Dumat and all the other "Old Gods" were blocked out from the Golden City by the Maker, so that's when they started coercing with the magisters like Corypheus. They knew there was immense power behind those doors and used humans and our corruption to breach heaven.

Then, because humanity did this, the Maker left and allowed a power we couldn't hope to control, come back to this world.

Ever think the old gods WANT to become Archdemons? They obviously aren't mindless, and one can only assume they are more powerful due to their control over the most numerous and gruesome army in Thedas (darkspawn).

Do the old gods call out to them prior to becoming Archdemons or no?

Corypheus isn't afraid of the Black City. He wants to go back and set himself up as deity there. The Blight has immense power. Question is who made it or why

Corypheus actually says he wasn't cursed, that he sought out the power of the Blight and made it is.

The Old Gods were said to have called out to the seven ancient magisters, and told them how to get there.  They might not have known what was inside...or they might have known exactly what was there.  It's left ambiguous.  But this is one of the three popular theories about who's the mastermind behind the Blight, that the Old Gods id it intentionally either to be free or to grab power.

(The Mkaer to punish people, the Old Gods to grab power, or Mythal for some unknown purpose.)

Yeah, to me, I think those old gods knew. I think their calling only grows all the more influential and powerful as an Archdemon. And lore wise, I believe an Archdemon is more powerful than a High Dragon.

I think the who made it was an accident. I think the ancient elves killing a titan may have made it. At least after the Trespasser DLC, I feel that might have happened.

Loved getting new (albeit probably partially false) insight, with WoT 2, and Hessarian's verses on this. It would seem that the Architect was the high priest - "the builder" - of Urthemiel's sect. While Cory was the "Conductor" of Silence, Dumat.

I think they definitely heard the gods voices, but we probably won't know why until the next game.

As for Cory seeking out power, I thought he considered the land cursed because of blights.. and was jaded. I thought he sought out power mostly because nothing was true to him anymore... and he would step in.

True, but if there wasn't power to be had in the Black City, why would he want to establish his god hood there? There's some kind of power sealed there that the old gods I fee tried to take. The Maker sealed it away in the Fade, and they felt jaded for not receiving, thus why they had their minion magisters go and bring it from the Fade to the physical world.
