Anyone else has this issue?

It has been happening a few times in every game, but it's enough to take out part of the fun.
Depending on what I do (i.e: start a roll, run, etc), the controller becomes alive and randomly executes all kinds of actions.

The worst ones is one it uses my Survival Ops and Ammo Packs, and even scarier is when it selects the missile launcher. To make it worst, it sometimes fires it, leaving me with no missiles and probably without any resources.

I'm thinking on buying a new controller but I'd like to make sure that this issue occurs because my controller has maybe... 5 years.

Thoughts?

It's the controller. Every time I play at my brother's, his will do fine but all of a sudden I'm spinning in circles, pulling out Cobras, throwing nades, it's possessed. Controllers get like that on occasion, esp after 5 years. Replacement should do the trick.

The left stick on one of my EcksBawks controllers has a tendency to pull to the right, so take cover becomes dodge left, quick-scoping doesn't work...it's a pain in the ass.

Yes, mine does the same with randomly wasting consumables. It's probably from throwing it through a wall too many times as a result of playing goddamned geth.

Damn that sucks. I didn't want to spend money on that atm -_-

But I don't see an alternative, so... Let's do it.

Thanks.

Keep in mind lag can affect your controllers responsiveness, especially the D pad consumables

That makes sense, but what I face is pretty much a "demonic controller posession" :P

I can definitely relate, but mine is mostly my controllers fault not just the lag. My controller has been on the way out for a long while now. Sometimes it strafes to the left on it's own, and others it won't move in that direction at all and the sprint button sometimes 'sticks' and my character will just stop moving at all (bad news when a Banshee is hot on your ass that's for sure).  And the poor old 'back/melee button's giving it up for good I think.

And of course the old ' press the ammo or ops pack key and you pull out your launcher instead trick'. But that one is the lag I think.

Funny thing is I have a brand new controller sitting in the drawer still in it's box.

Mine would slowy pull to the left, annoying as hell when trying to revive someone as any movement will cancel the revive. I replaced the rubber topped sticks with aluminium ones, it's a lot better now, though still occasionally does it. I was looking at a Scuff controller with programmable paddles, but they're not cheap!

My D-pad will pull my Cobra when I'm trying to ops pack, most annoying. The best advice is to host, all the controls get sharper!

Will a cheap alternate work fine? Anyone here use a non-Sony controller to play this game?

I've been through a lot of controllers for both systems over the years. My experience has strongly reinforced the following position:

PlayStation: Controllers last for years. Loss of functionality is gradual, and typically begins after two years. Controller will experience a long phase of minor quirks gradually worsening while the overall joystick performance is still functional enough not to replace. Generally, after three years or four years, additional years of functionality are gravy, but not uncommon. Will have to have "experience with the stick's quirks" at that point, almost certainly. Average replacement time is around three years, maybe a little more.

I would recommend sticking with the Sony brand based on that experience, but I haven't purchase many off-brand Playstation joysticks, and have little concept of their relative value.

Xbox: Controllers last for a year. Loss of functionality is consistent, and begins at 6 months. Functionality will generally become very problematic shortly after symptoms express themselves. Controllers do not retain adequate functionality beyond two years. Average replacement will occur once a year.

I would recommend buying cheaper off brand replacements, based on my experience. There's a reason Microsoft will not honour accessory warranties past three months unless the jurisdiction forces them to.

Dude, you're quite the expert on controller :P

Thanks for the details!

My Xbox controller has no rubber on the thumb pads anymore, I've rubbed them off over time. I prefer it. But I have only got a slight drifting to the side, but not that often. And I've had it for 3 years.
And I've had a brand new one for nearly2 years but not even used it. :/

I have one old controller without the rubber on one of the sticks too (PS3).

You're the second guy that owns a brand new unused controller.

Not sure where you guys are from, but money is good there to buy stuff and not using them :P

Gamestop has these little rubber toppers you can put on the worn-out thumbsticks, assuming your controller outlives the thumbsticks, ofc

We had a similar controller problem with a brand new one that came with the new console. Only after 2 weeks it kept steering to the left on its own. Quite annoying in games like Borderlands2, and falling off a cliff into lava because of it. Or as was pointed out earlier, trying to revive in ME3.

So, I called the local rep, and it got replaced free of charge (with free postage, too), not many questions asked. "Ah yes, that's a well-known problem", they said.

Amusingly/aggravatingly enough, the new basic stock replacement they sent had the exact same problem from the first minute onwards! Another call to helpdesk+ sending it back.

Got a new replacement again after 2 weeks, this one finally works. Wish they'd send out replacements right away, though, as they never seem to repair the old ones.

I have noticed on PC with controller mod sometimes its like the controller disconnects and ME3 will continue to replay the last action.

I have 4 worn out original controllers (over a decade), all with various type of worn (similiar problems as mentioned above)

Well, and with the previous generic Controller , charging button didn't allow my asgard to charge in quick succession - and it only lasted 2 months (was a wireless), before the usb port worn out- that happened because the battery is the third of the size.

This one i have now is a wired (hence only 16), since Tuesday this week , and seems to be ok (too early to say but still bettter than the 34€ generic wireless version)

It would be great to hear from the old ps3 masters, if they go only for OEM (ps3 original
goes for 59.90€ inthe store, new, or have strayed from the beaten track with generics.

My Dualshock 3 is pretty old and recently the left analog stick will randomly slightly stick so when reviving people it looks like I'm tea bagging them :D. I've been using my older Dualshock 4 and playing is much more comfortable.
