Human and Elves are not far different, actually elves are just self centered pointed ears long face human who proud of themselves, almost racist, excellent in using bow and magic, as in common trope. We are used to Elves in general. There is nothing more to add other than background story where they belong to.

Qunari for me is just out of place, i don't like them, i don't like Sten, i don't like the Arishok, i just don't like them personally. Their appearance in DA2 with horns add to how loathed i am about them. They also against what i have in mind about the same bull headed humanoid creatue already existing in common fantasy lores, the Minatour. They just don't add up.

If Qunari are like The Mandalorians of KotOR, physically and their philosophy, i mean human-like, just bigger and rough, or like the Nords of Skyrim, i think they will be more appealing to choose....

Oookay... I was trying to give credit to an interesting idea you had and expand on it (because I enjoy pleasant and intelligent discussion), but if all you want to do is focus on the negative of and dump on all the non-humans, never mind.  :?

I personally like elves a great deal, though that should be obvious from my avatar and username.

Even removing myself from the equation, I've noticed that a lot of people in the forums seem to love the idea of playing a "grey giant" (the biological race, not necessarily the philosophy/culture), but once they became available in DAI many people had a hard time putting that interest into practice because the games have shown so little about the vashoth's cultural background that they had a hard time putting themselves into their shoes. Still more people feel they need more in-game acknowledgement or personal investment in the story. Since the first half of the game focuses on the human church and the second half on elven revelations, many dwarf and Qunari players felt, "Well, what is there for me? I might as well play a human/elf, because at least I'll get something out of it."

I sincerely hope that changes next game. I hope being closer to the Qunari motherland gives us a chance to see how grey giants live (Qunari, Tal'Vashoth, or otherwise), and give more in-game acknowledgement and personal investment for people interested in playing a vashoth. I also hope there's more incentive to play a dwarf, because they're a great race that have been under-utilized and under-appreciated so far.

Interesting. Can you share why you dumped Solas twice? I've only watched the romance online so don't have a strong opinion on it.

It was funny that the Dalish background provides the most war table missions. I wonder if the missions were originally background neutral and they converted them to a Dalish clan, or if they were written after the inclusion of race selection. And why one race has significantly more missions than the others. Dwarves and Qunari in particular have crap missions.

I just didn't get on with it. From a gameplay perspective I felt the gaps between romance specific scenes and dialogue were too great and that while the scenes I did have with him were great from an elven perspective, they weren't great from a romance perspective.

From a roleplay ( my elfs ) perspective there was always doubt as to whether there was any real affection from him and that there was always an ulterior agenda there. Something that came to a crunch in the last game I tried the romance, the Vallaslin scene. My girl became angry and refused to remove them, not caring what they meant to him or some bunch of overpowered barstewards from an age long forgotten. What they meant to her was important and well, we know how that scene culminates. For her, his reaction in that scene was the last in a long line of doubt that what he wanted was his ideal of an elf, not the truth, not the Dalish, not her. Trespasser merely provided her with confirmation.

By that time she'd moved on and found love with no doubts, no agenda.

It perhaps didn't help that I tried it after playing through Cullens more than once, whose romance path I place alongside my two favourite Bioware romances of all time, Kaidan and Alistairs. Maybe if I had played it first i'd feel differently, I don't know. I doubt it, but possibly.

I should also add, because unfortunately it may need to be said, that this does not mean I dislike Solas. I don't. In fact I think he's one of the best antagonists/ fallen heroes/ companions that Bioware have written and that while the romance didn't work for me on a personal level, I made it work on an rp'ing level and in that I had enjoyment.

It also probably needs to be reiterated that this is just my interpretation and opinion. As we know, many get a lot of enjoyment from his romance and that's great.

@Madfox11:  I think the dwarves are going to be very important in the war against Solas actually.

If Shaper Valta returns to Orzammar and reconnects the dwarves to the Titans.... **** is going to go DOWN.

I am not entirely sure about the motivation of the Titans and their relation with the elves and Solas. For one thing, the Titan was aggrevated by the Breach, but once it reconnected with a sane dwarf who knew what was going on, it calmed. In fact, it allowed the Inquisitor to leave unopposed, knowing very well that the Inquisitor's goal was to close the Breach. In other words, it did not seem to care about the Veil at least in the short-term or it is still sleeping and Valta could appease it back into sleep. There is also no indication it was truly opposed to the mining of Lirium. The dwarves managed to appease it in an earlier age and kept mining and nothing in the game suggest the mining was stopped after Descend. In other words, they are a bit of a wild card, especially since they apparently can either be corrupted by the Blight or one of their own is the actual source of it (red lirium seems to predate the First Blight). We simply do not know enough about them. I am curious about their inclusion in future DA games ;)

Yeah I would imagine the Solas romance would be the most impactful on a first run, as the meta knowledge after completing the game will automatically change our perceptions of him. It's funny because while I found Solas interesting as a source of information on the Fade, I felt he lacked personality for much of the game and was fairly flat. In hindsight with the revelations of his identity this makes sense and makes replaying more interesting, but he just didn't connect with me on a personal basis.

Gaider says that going into detail about the cool stuff that got cut out would just upset the fans... and he was right.

THE ARCHITECT was gonna be in this?? And he says it so casually! Does he know how much people wanted to find out if sparing him was a good or bad idea???

I think only few who likes Qunari they are not as appealing to choose based on their established racial background, they are just alien and no one really understand their crazy philosophy, and is quite radical for our modern society point of view

Dwarves is because of their size and lacks of same race romance option. I just can't imagine a Qunari and a Dwarf.....nevermind...

That's the appeal. Playing a race that feels more alien, more distant from human.

A very interesting interview. I'll always view it as a shame (and a mistake by Bioware management) that the "Exalted March" expansion was cancelled, but I suppose what's done is done. It does sound as if there would have been a few more heart-rending companion deaths, so at least Hawke didn't have to undergo that trauma. I certainly believe there is room within the DA franchise for more expansions to be published in the future.

Actually, I would love to know if David (or Patrick Weekes) have managed to play the pen-and-paper Dragon Age role-playing game (DARPG), published by Green Ronin, and what they thought of it. David speaks of not being able to go back, but the DARPG can be set at any time - even pre-Origins. Could they think of any interesting, unanswered stories they'd like to see it cover?

The reason Exalted March was cancelled was for (from any company's PoV) the best reason in the world:  DA2 was such a dog that it had fleas, and making a full expansion (which was going rapidly out of style for AAA games anyway for cost reasons) would be throwing good money after bad.

The problem here is that DG is about the only person associated with DA2 that still believes that DA2 was good.

I have zero interest in finding out anything more about the what-might-have-beens for any past games. Seriously, what is the point?

Not the entire topic, but even so, am I not allowed to post my opinion about it?

The entire interview is about cut content which to me translates into "might have been".  I am not saying you aren't entitled to your opinion.  I just wonder how constructive it is to make a post disagreeing with the entire premise of a thread on that thread, however.

About as constructive as most of your arguments. ;)

Look, Ian, I'm not going to continue this ridiculously off topic argument you insist on having with me about how "on topic" you are.

That was uncalled for.  My arguments whether you agree with them or not, pertain to the topic.

Same here, such an interesting character and from what we know about Corypheus now, he could be one of seven the magisters.

I didn't know they released this! Thank you for sharing and transcribing OP! I do appreciate how frank Gaider is, and learning more about the thought processes that led to him handing the reins to Weekes.

I'm admittedly a bit nervous about the direction Weekes will take it, but I'm always cautious when the head writer/show runner/director/etc. for a media project is replaced. If anyone had to take over, though, I'm glad it was Weekes.

(I still wonder what Gaider thinks of human!Cole and Maryden, considering how adamant he used to be on the subject of Cole getting a romance.)

Anyway, this was a really good interview. I'm going to miss that trademark Gaider sarcasm and acerbity in future games.

It was a bad idea trust me,the best thing that he can do is taint another old god, since his is favourite sport or create an army of intelligent darkspawn ,or others crazy broodmother, really the architect does not have anything to envy to solas.

I think human!Cole and Maryden will be a good stepping stone for DG to embrace inevitable dwarf romances in DA4. I believe he was one of the biggest opponents to the idea
