There's no doubt Dragon Age is one of the most beloved franchise of the last 5/6 years alongside Mass Effect, Origins was really good and after the rushed sequel is astonishing what has been accomplished with Inquisition, not only it is a better videogame, with better presentation, level design and scope, but is really good because it leaves the franchise in a wonderful state for the future. I can't wait to see how the story will unfold, this game played a lot with ancient lore and introduced a great new villain (Solas) in a very effective way. With that said now i will list some things that i expect and hope to get in the next game, gameplay wise.

1. I wanna have the chance to play with my Inquisitor or create a new character, it will be 2017 (i guess) and this is what next gen should be, choices. Why not have this possibility? That would be awesome.

I read that many people complained about the Inquisitor left arm, i've got absolutely no problem with that and i think is great, is like Frodo losing his finger at the end of LotR, is an epic scar after an epic journey and battle. I can't wait to play DA4 and take revenge on Solas for that.

2. A game designed for PCs as much as consoles. Yes because unfortunately Inquisition is not that good as a PC game, the performance could be better and play with K+M is a nightmare. The combat is thought for consoles as well, the skills are few because console pads have less keys, also the party AI has been streamlined and not for the better, hey i'm not asking to go back to Baldur's Gate or Origins but come on, like this it becomes boring and too repetitive after a while.

We also need more specific classes and specializations. Mages in particular are very lame in Inquisition, give me back healing, abjuration, conjuration and evocation spells, again i'm not asking D&D but mages needs to be better.

Another thing i expect is the possibility to have a bigger party, i was able to play with 6 characters back then and i hope to do it again in the future.

And i'd like more variety of enemy types, their strategy, strength and weaknesses. In Inquisition you can fight red templars, darkspawns or the JoH, but in the end it's always the same group of 4/5 enemies (a warrior, mage and a rogue) so there isn't too much difference. Where is the tactical combat when you can beat everybody spamming the same few skills over and over? I barely ever used the tactical view, which needs to be fixed btw. Combat needs an overhaul in my opinion.

3. More but less extensive zones fit with meaningful side quests that connects with the main quest and the main character. In the next game i don't want this mmo type of zones, i don't wanna do all this time consuming stuff that is not particularly fun. I don't wanna walk for 5 minutes to find a buffalo or to collect shards, the side quests should be good as the main quests and like in Mass Effect 2, they should be optional but very important in the ending results!

In this day and age people seems to think that bigger is better but it's a lie, complete nonsense. I can play again Mass Effect or Origins any day of the week because they respected my time, this is why i can't get into another playthrough of Inquisition, i don't wanna go through that mmo boring part of the game. And this is another reason why Inquisition needed a

4. new game plus mode, you need to add this in the next game!

5. Less loading times, they are too long and too frequent.

So what's hot?

1. The lore. The background of this fantasy world is amazing, i love all the speculations and theories from fans and there are so many secrets and stories yet to be told. I'm so hyped for the future and i enjoyed the descent for this very good reason, the origins of lyrium and dwarfs.

2. Crafting and customization. I liked that a lot, i spent a lot of time customizing my party, creating armors and weapons. Making them look cooler or just stronger.

3. The writing, the story is not bad even if the main villain is not that great, but Inquisition shines because it has the best companions in the series and by far. The conversations with them and the choices you can make, it makes them feel alive like real people. In this game you have funny, hilarious, serious and sad moments with them, in Trespasser is a bit sad to have to say goodbye. Man i still miss Shepard and the Normandy crew and  my heart is broken since i saw Mordin die that way lol. Also the romance segments are better than previous games.

4. The music, not better than Witcher 3 which is one of the best games of all time in my opinion, but the ost is great, the main theme in particular is epic. And that scene when you reach Skyhold is one of the best moments i had while playing a videogame, what a blast.

5. The fact that after DA2 the series was left in a poor state and after this game i can't wait to play the next to see what is coming.

So what do you say? Do you agree with some of my points and what do you expect from the future?

I agree with pretty much everything here, except I liked the larger zones (agree side quests could be better though), and I don't really want the choice for a new protagonist (The Solas plot started with the Inquisitor, it should end with the Inquisitor).

This would be a big resource sink if playing the Inquisitor actually matters. Tons of different dialogues -- for instance, you also need to accomodate PCs who haven't heard of Solas and don't much care who he is.

I've never understood why WASD movement made so many of us go all to pieces. I prefer click-to-move myself, but DA:I's basically Skyrim with more camera options, and that was easy enough to play.

With scaling, or without? Without is relatively trivial to implement, but I don't know if the gameplay consequences are acceptable

I liked DA:I. But I'm hoping Bioware take a long and good look at The Witcher 3 for inspiration when designing side quests for the next Dragon Age game.

TW3 really set the bar for open world RPG sidequest. Hate TW3 or not, but what you say reflects the view of many other gamers and expect Bioware to take note. Maybe not with MEA, but definately with DA4.

I want less magic.  The magic creep they've done has ended with a horrible concept... Solas.  I'm not talking about Solas the Character (who I do hate, but that's not the point) - I'm talking about Solas the ridiculously powerful.

The darkspawn were a gritty world ending threat through corruption... the darkspawn are like living pollution.  I loved them - even if I think they're still part of this magic creep that is now out of hand.

Then we get red lyrium and the beginning of super ridiculous idiocy like super saiyan Meredith.

Then we move to Corypheus - the uber-baddie of all baddies a super bad Magister from ancient Tevinter that created Darkspawn!  (Let's forget he was a tool and a pawn).  He powers up a Dragon Ball... err... Solas' Magic 8-Ball - super rare demons are now EVERYWHERE...

And lastly... Solas, now with Medusa Glow Eye Action!

What I "want" will probably devastate the series for most people... I want the next character to seal the Veil even further and make the Fade almost inaccessible.

But what's occurring now is definitely killing it for me.

You can forget ANY small scale story... so long as they keep going the way of ridiculous magic.

-----

- Focus on NPCs.

- Give me Ferelden, Orlais, Antiva, Rivain, Nevarra, Tevinter, Par Vollen, Orzammar, Kal Sharok, the Free Marches, the Anderfells, the Avvar... not, magical magic magicking great dooms of magic!

They made it clear back when origins came out that there would be more magic and conflict because the dragon age is when the magic comes back so to speak, with things like magical beasts like dragons coming back after being exterminated.

I think you are on to something but it must crescendo first.

Agreed. Personally I don't want to see the inquisitor again. I want to be a protagonist that is someone of consequence. I mean first choice for inquisitor was the warden, then hawke, not some nobody who happens to fall in with the right crowd.  I would have loved to have seen either one of them return as the main in inquis (especially hawke since he/she was already intimately tied to the conflict). So in DA:4 I would love to see a main that we can play as and can carry on with to see how they and their friends develop, not just some accidental right place at the right time schmuck.
