I don't like cheating. Not very inclined to learn this, is it possible to be a good player on platinum and gold without it? No offense to anyone that uses it, just not my think to circumvent code.

I found that I was accidentally doing it before I knew it existed.
I would be shooting, out of ammo, use a power, ammo is back. 'Thats strange' I thought, but just kind of accepted it.

Then I found out about reload cancel. It doesn't make a game breaking difference, but it can help.

Same here. Even if medi cancel didn't exist, I'd do it kind of subcounsciously in the old ways. In fact I still do, cos I have remapped the medigel key and haven't adapted to it.

For me, it was breaking into a sprint midway through the reload animation that accidentally introduced me to reload-cancelling.

 

Intentional or not, glitch or not, it's something that is equally available to all players and thus doesn't give anyone an unfair "advantage" (whatever that means in a co-op game).  So I see no problem with it.

I'm pretty sure Bioware said it. I can't remember about a specific thread talking about that but I'm fairly certain you will quickly find links confirming it with a google search.

Its not cheating, its animation cancelling, something that can be done in many games not just ME3. For example that thread is actually about ME2, because yes you could do it in ME2 too. 

 

And yes you can be a good player without doing it.

You can pretty much make Platinum fun, even without it.

Especially with power heavy classes its absolutely possible.

Soldiers playing weapons like AR / pistols/Smg is not so dependent on it anyway, due to ROF and also can be pretty well master plat without it.

One could say that certain characters/classes won't be totally OP builds without it.

I've done it sometimes also willingly ( to try at least to keep up with some titans or simply so or initially for comparing/ science) + also accidentally, but it's not coming as second nature to me. But then again, probably after 20 000 hours I won't even know that I'm doing it.

Some pay taxes due, others put great effort in loopholes.

Does it envoke any emotion in me when somebody absolutely depends on it? Nah, different strokes for different folks.

Reload canceling is no cheating. But to answer your question: no need for use of "clever game mechanics" to play gold or plat. The game isn't too hard to play with a bit of experience. So just a few repetitions do the trick.

Reload cancel is the only way to use Javelin, Claymore and many other guns in a reasonable way and speed.
