According to some informations, adult Wyvern can reach the same size of an high dragon and in Orlais they often defend their territory even against high dragons.
Their poison is lethal and  they can also be tamed
Knight on the top of an adult Wyvern? Awesome, can't the GW replace those derelict of the griffins with them?
HIgh dragons are powerful,fire,strength,ecc.. and their blood just as the one of the Wyvern can be treated to create reavers.
They got decimated until this age
(But if the Inquisitor and The Warden will continue to kill them all the will be decimated again in a few years lol).
As for their design, honestly i like more the wyverns, and their beautiful introduction in DAII

I'm way more partial to the dragons. Wyverns look cool, but they do not come close to the majestic beauty I see in a dragon.

I love both, but I'm not fond of the way dragons, in particular, are used in the DA universe. They're almost always mindless beasts, whose only function is to fight and die at the hands of our wildlife-abhorring protagonist.

Something about Thedas's most intelligent, majestic and revered creatures being constantly relegated to overgrown sword-fodder just irks me. I feel that, with a little effort from the writers, dragons could be used in more interesting ways.

Tresspasser at least allowed us to rescue a dragon. That was a nice change from the norm.

I prefer dragons when they are either untamable beasts aking to Dragon Age's (well save for the two exceptional occurences in Inquisition) or intelligent and deadly like Smaug in The Hobbit.

I don't like the dragons in A Song Of Ice And Fire (among other series with dragon riders) because they act like overgrown, fire-breathing attack dogs who provide too much plot convenience. I don't think the main characters of a work should have something as powerful as a dragon at their command. I'd rather they stay something that cannot be controlled.

Smaug was a "great" fire drake of the Third Age, considered to be the last "great" dragon to exist in Middle Earth.
Fire-drakes or Urulóki are fire-breathing dragons. They are very large, bigger than Cold-drakes, they can withstand fire, and can kill with their fiery breath. Fire-drake broods often live in hills, mountains, caves, or icy wastelands.
These creatures are described by Tolkien as being more like giant scaled serpents with wings than dragons as commonly depicted today
(so yes Smaug is not a dragon).
Fire-drakes often grew to immense size. The fire from one of these dragons was so intense that it was said the great dragons could consume and melt the Rings of Power, with the exception of the One Ring. Most of the famous dragons throughout the ages were fire-drakes although only some of them fought for Morgoth.
Tolkien confirmed in a letter that Smaug was the last of his kind, the last of the "great" Fire Drakes of Middle Earth. Dragons of lesser stature, such as smaller kin of Cold-drakes and Fire-drakes lived on. This was also mentioned by Gandalf[2].
Smaug is probably bigger than old gods considered that in game the Archdemon was more or less the size of an high dragon.

Dragons FTW and IMHO DA:I has the best looking dragons.

Wyverns on the other hand are just over-grown lizards.
