It is. Its between tessia mission and final assault.

After tessia that councilor:

"

Councilor: I don’t know what to say. What was the situation on Thessia?

Shepard: Deteriorating fast. The Reapers are there in strength.

Councilor: Then I should be going. Plans must be put in motion. Continuity of civilization has to be considered. I never imagined this day would come.

"

So we all can thank asari for next mass effect. :)

This also allows reaper harvest ending possible, but it still doesnt mean that milky way will be dead from current races if those andromera people come back with huge fleet and destroy reapers. :)

that makes no sense the whole point of mass effect 3 is to gather military forces

and by doing this you take the forces away you need to fight the reapers it really makes no sense and if this is the case

its just lazy from bioware.

I was countering your proclamations about the issues with the Crucible idea with the bold. Desperate and risky are highly relative when it comes to the Reapers. And this "secret escape" is still also quite risky, since it diverts valuable assets away from a solution and could very easily be intercepted or fail in any number of ways.

ship flying in deep space between stars is basically impossible to intercept. If they cant detect shepard ship even in point plank radius, finding normal ship from complete emptiness is impossible.

And the Protheans went with a bunker on a vulnerable planet instead of an Ark because...?

All they have to do is run into a Reaper or two on the voyage out of the galaxy that they've spread out across, and all that effort will be kaput.

Of course, this is far less of a problem if they leave before the Reapers ever arrive. Still a problem, but less of one.

This was... unexpectedly painful. :pinched:

This is a troll teaser.  They know everyone wants Shepard in Mass Effect Andromeda.  But they released this clip basically giving every one the finger.  Bioware strikes again with their not so subtle trolling.

While I do not believe this was trolling, quite the opposite, I think it was meant to be a touching goodbye to the fans, it did make me feel like I got trolled. I wish I could be as happy about this "teaser" as most people here, but it just pisses me off.

And the fact that they chose femShep made it so much worse... being reminded of everything I loved about Mass Effect being left behind.

I think I might find it easier to forget Shepard and move on if Bioware didn't keep on reminding us that we need to forget him / her. "This is Commander Shepard, signing off "... Just a little too on the nose for me.

Yeah, the E3 trailer was already quite reminiscent of Shepard (e.g., positioning of protagonist in the ship), and now literally Shepard talking to us. I'm not sure who's the person saying, "The best way to move our fanbase away from Shepard is MOARSHEPARD," but he/she needs to just stop.

This! Apparently the majority of people appreciates this tear-jerker video, but HOW am *I* supposed to get over Shepard and forget the Milky Way if they keep bringing it all up in such a manipulative way?!? Bioware won't stop scratching at this wound!

I'm a bit baffled the teaser is being received so well considering that it looks like a cheap fan video slapped together in an afternoon and features Shepard whom people either can't wait to leave behind or wish was still around...

The released concept art that sort of looked like the Citadel, but not quite, is probably going to turn out to be of the interior of the ark. We're going to need a new hub, and since this game's setting is going to revolve around finding new homes, meaning there probably won't be any settled worlds or space stations at the start of the game, the Ark is probably going to be the game's main hub.

And apparently they'll make us remember the Milky Way every five minutes in the actual game too... *sigh*

This is going to be one painful gaming experience for me. I wish Andromeda would be an actual fresh start. Would be smarter too imo. People are either going to be reminded of a trilogy they liked better OR it's going to bring up memories of how much the ending ruined the trilogy. How is that good??

Please Bioware, either don't look back and try to sell us why we should care about Andromeda, or stay in the Milky Way. Currently they are doing neither in their promotion, and it annoys me.

That's my whiny post for today. Sorry.

It's probably not meant to be taken literally. It could easily just be Shepard sending a last farewell to us, the players :)

Agreed. Next year n7 day will be focused on the new game, this is probably Shep's last goodbye

Watched Apollo 13 last night, so this felt even more epic than it would have. But a couple of points:

1) Why not Jen Hale? She's popular, she's good, and as someone else pointed out, she's been in the booth for Bioware recently.

2) My thought is the Ark was something already in progress at some point, and it got a higher priority when things went to hell.

3) The safe bet is on Ryder as the next last name. It makes sense considering Shepard and her background.

Considering the Reapers came in on a conventional course into Batarian space and then hit the relay system, running into a Reaper would pretty much depend on relative positions

Another announcement, another bunch of cynics who reply within minutes of said announcement. We all know you're going to play the game on day one the same as those of us who are enthusiastic for it, is there really no better way for you to spend your time in the mean time? And if you really do feel that way about the franchise, then go read/post about something that you're actually passionate and happy about if you dislike this series that much, plenty of stuff out there.

The name "Ryder" means "knight". Knights ride horses. The song Ghost Riders in the Sky comes from a cowboy mythology (to state the obvious)..

A question: Does anybody get a good sense of the scale of the (presumably ARK) ship? I can't tell if the lights we see are windows or not. My intution is that the ship is smaller than I would expect if there were going to be a large contingent of people on board, but I am not sure due to the fact that there aren't any visual references.

The video underlines once more that the focus of the next game will be exploration. I gotta say, I like where this is going. Being the pathfinder, exploring unknown space and finding a new place for humanity sounds much more exciting to me than being a super soldier in a war against a synthetic enemy. This should have been the main theme for Mass Effect from the beginning. Being carefully optimistic here, the next game could be great if well executed.

It was a nice nod to the fans of the ME Trilogy with Shepard but also a sign that they pass the torch to the next protagonist, whoever that might be.

Glad they used Jennifer Hale for this one (although, I wouldn't mind one with Mark Meer either).

It was quite emotional and I liked it. :D

But time to move on

I think it will be around the size of the Collector Cruiser. That ship was about two kilometers long and was able to hold millions of people in stasis with most of the space still empty. With them not in stasis, the rest of the space is probably large enough to support tens top hundreds of thousands of people.

Don't need to be psychic to see someone complaining, that just takes reading.

This is as bad I thought it would be, Bioware is no longer even trying to make a believable/consistent story any more, they are just going to throw Deus Ex's left an right with massive leap's in logic to solve all their problems.

You're predicting that regardless of what people say, they'll not only play the game, but get it day one.  That takes a special kind of arrogance.

Except there was more to my post to anyone who can read. Takes a special kind of strawman to target one sentence in a paragraph.

Yes, I believe there are people who will either want to play the game or not. Pretty sure that covers everyone.

No, I said there are people who will complain but still play, and people who complain and actually won't play. For the latter, I think they should go find a better use of their time for their own sake.

It would also make sense from a lore perspective. A subset of humans was launched out of the Milky Way in case the Reapers win the war, so that at least the survival of the race is guaranteed.

It makes sense, however, the game will live in the past in this case, since no character will care about what happened in the war? Not that I mind, but I'd rather not be mentioned anything about it, in my opinion the best scenario to go explore another galaxy is in ME2, since the thing was not so bad as in the third game.

Yeah this is pretty dam bad, and outright silly.

"We need to build military strength and resources!"

"Lets make a giant ship filled with a crap load of people and military personal that will take massive resources to send them out of the galaxy."

Do you really think she was referring to any civilization but the asari?

She was willing to let the galaxy burn around her if it meant protecting their worlds

Well yeah, it could be only for the asari, but its the only backup plan we hear in the series.  Unfortunately for other species it would still most likely result in their death, because asari&other race will result in asari children and with already low populations would mean other species almost certain extiction. :P

Hmm..what species ship style does that trailer ark ship look? Or it is just random scifi/series/movie ship copy paste.

It makes the setting more dramatic and desperate if they do it this way. It's a good callback to the events of the original trilogy and it explains why so many people are essentially giving up their existing lives to go on a mission they might never return from when there is still plenty of stuff to explore in the Milky Way if curiosity was the only incentive. Now the crew has no choice but to succeed in unfamiliar space and that tone can be carried throughout the whole story.

Looks like a Collector ship, but replacing the hive stuff with stuff from the Citadel races.
