They were? Huh. I haven't really been following news for this game.I'm surprisingly fine with that.

They were featured at E3 in 2014 in the first reveal trailer. This might be subject to change, but I doubt they'll back out of that. The reddit leak mentioned a male krogan squadmate. I thought that they had confirmed the Krogan appearing directly, but I haven't found a statement from the devs saying that.

My mistake there; I ended up very ill and the meds that I'm on are all sorts of "fun." I'm a little loopier than usual at the moment.

They did say that some Council races made it on board, so between that and the trailer I'm going to assume that Krogans will be around in some fashion.

Oh, it's big. But as big as the Crucible?

Probably as big as a Collector Ship. *cough*

Anyone want to do the math?

Nope.

Everyone knows this is the citadel soot thank you for bringing back Shepard. Mass effect is crap without him. Don't want another hero when a legend is already there. Rip to all those who we lost in ME3. Will be missed. Yea reapers gone time to fight something even more deadly. Shepard rules!!!!

What compelling reason would there be to go all in on a giant mega-space station sized exporation ship all the way to Andromeda before Mass Effect 3? Although the ship did look cool and it was awesome hearing FemShep's voice one last time.

Well the Andromeda galaxy is a larger, spiral galaxy. - the closest spiral galaxy. Prevailing astrobiological theory is that life has a better chance in spiral galaxies because the arms give breathing room and protection for asteroids and violent cosmic events, allowing life to survive.

Secondly, Andromeda is huge and I think the closer galaxies are smaller. Another reason to believe Andromeda would have greater chance of life.

Also I don't think building an ark during the original trilogy is dumb or far fetched. Even now when people talk about planetary disaster they immediately think of arks. Currently we think of just Interstellar arks. But in the time of Mass Effect they have technological resources from Salarians, Turians, asari. The whole galaxy is on the internet, each participant as or even more advanced than humanity. So yes, I think the economic capacity to build both an ark and a crucible at the same time exists. And that considering they already have stasis and FTL figured out, the actual travel is feasible to them.

Oh, it's big, sure. But as big as the Crucible? Anyone want to do the math? I don't trust our impressions ever since iakus confidently told me that the Collector Cruiser didn't dwarf Alliance cruisers.

Hey it fooled the crew of the Normandy too

What would be enormously cool is if we play as a human protagonist but our human protagonist is NOT the commander or boss of the ship. Since other aliens were more advanced than humans at the time and Shepard's election at the Citadel a breakthrough at that time, they should really have an asari, Turians, or Salarian leader of the ark.

Id honestly be pissed if they didn't do this.

We'd have to be in control of our own ship to be able to determine where we go and when. We'd never even be able to use the map otherwise. I assume we would have our own smaller craft to traipse around the cluster with while this Ark or whatever remains in a fixed point, like the Citadel.

Of course, it could be similar to Shepard in that you start off as a grunt under someone's command, but that would no doubt change before the game's halfway point.

I remember them saying something to just this effect at E3. You don't start out at the top. The implication was the character in the n7 armor in the E3 video was the CO for wharever it is.

No it isn't.

Trends give a indication on what to expect, and bioware poor track record with implementing retcons is still very relevant.

It was never a literal statement. The Salarians weren't even aiding with the Crucible.

The fact that the entire galaxy is committing all its resources to its construction says otherwise.

How'd you fish that number out of your ass?

Its ridiculous to think that the ship depicted in the trailer can be completed in a few months. Its also well know fact that dreadnought sized ships take years to complete.

No it doesn't. It says the cost is staggering. Nothing more.

It does it says they are willing to risk anything to stop the reapers.

So why are you drawing this arbitrary line in the sand now?

See my first comment Bioware doesn't handle retcons very well.

I think that's why I like Shepard. Starting out small.

Same reason I like Hawke. You earn your hero-ness.

I actually meant the part about Asari not being invited.

You sure? It looks a lot smaller to me.

I fail to see how an ark ship can be a small scale project.

After watching this video I think Bioware should put a sticker on ME:A to make

sure their message is really clear...

Best way to tell a story, have the audience watch them grow into a hero.

By the looks of things it clearly crucible size this was most certainly a large scale project.

Part of me is hoping for a moment for the character similar to the Haven attack to Skyhold sequence, minus Mother Ducklips' singing of course.

so like if it really is an Ark project expedition to Andromeda, I wonder would it involve cryo sleep? there's cryosleep in the lore iirc (Manswell Expedition for example). and if so, was everyone asleep and the maintenance or whatever entrusted to a VI or something? if not, maybe one of the long-lived species like a krogan or an asari volunteered to do the thing for the years? wakin up in Andromeda to be greeted by an Asari like "Hi it's me Lee'ura Sa'tony welcome to Andromeda I've watched you sleep for the last 304 years since I started this job when I was 267, by the way you can romance me now and I'm a lil crazy from all the time I spent alone."

I know the numbers. The chief issue for me was whether or not they could build it and reverse engineer the tech in the time allotted. This solves a lot of those problems. And a secretive government agency could potentially have acquired and been studying the ship for a long time.

Yep. And we know the Alliance at least has had this information for a while, since James Vega was able to secure extensive files on Collector tech during the events of Mass Effect: Paragon Lost which occurs around the time ME2 starts, since at the end Anderson and Hackett mention Shepard being pronounced dead may be a bit premature. So all that would need to happen is use that information to capture a Collector ship, which luckily the Reapers called in many more during the Reaper War, or use the data to build one like they use the schematics on Mars to build the Crucible.

Large-scale, yes, but you're jumping to the extreme end of large-scale, something the size of the Citadel, which is 44.7km long.

They don't need something that size to transport a population of viable size with sufficient supplies, that wouldn't be practical from any perspective.  They don't need millions of people.

Its something that clearly can't be built in a few months or years it would take decades at least. its why it makes no scene for such a ship to be built along side the crucible.  But that's just one of the many things wrong with the whole ark ship concept.
