Wait, how does a random Prothean artifact prevent wear and tear on a ship?

It'd be handwaved like the LP.

The thousands of passengers isn't going to be the only thing the ship will carry it has to carry the necessary resources to set up several colonies for the various different species. The ship also has to be capable of dealing with the stress of traveling in FTL non-stop for several centuries and no such technology existing during the time period of the trilogy. There is also the fuel needed to carry out the journey which is going to be extremely massive for a journey that's going to last centuries. All of these factors means this is going to be a large scale feat that'll take years and years of preparation before the journey can even start.

There will be ample space, or did you miss the millions of stasis pods I just mentioned? Since we only need thousand, there will be more than enough room. 'No such technology exists' are you kidding me? The Reapers limits have never been tested and I can only assume the Collectors have drives of similar design. The writers have ample room to make it do whatever they need for the plot.

Nobody said it would be easy, but threat of annihilation is a great motivator.

Fuel-less propulsion may not be so farfetched in a setting like the MEU (heck, NASA is looking into this thing in the present). I imagine the reapers use this method, since they don't seem to ever need to consume fuel ever yet can travel continuously. Those things are a wellspring of technological goodies. Reverse engineering their method of propulsion alone would bring the galaxy a step closer to rendering mass relays obsolete.

I think people should just accept that ME has been rule of cool ancient-artifact-stumble-a-thon sci-fi since day one, and stop overthinking something that will inevitably be some kind of asspull.

I totally agree. However, this is a discussion board.

The galaxy was never depicted as having the technology to travel to other galaxies throughout the trilogy. It going to be a huge leap of logic to go from a galaxy to where long range travel can only be achieved with the assistance of the mass relay's to suddenly being able to develop the technology to travel to other galaxies is less than three years. Its going to be like cave men suddenly being able to build a nuclear reactor without having an understanding of nuclear physics.

The reapers also had billions of years to develop the technology to travel to other galaxies if they had the technology to travel to other galaxies then they would've already done so a lone time ago.

The writers have ample room to make it do whatever they need for the plot.

That sort of writing is how the trilogy ended up having the Lazarus project and synthesis.

It is indeed a discussion board, it just seems that some people are investing a bit too much thinking time in something that has an abysmal consitency record.

And in a story of a video-game about space magic (Biotecs)!! I'm welling to take anything from Bioware at this point, cuz the lore is as flexible as an Asari stripper for goodness sake :D  .

It's probably not meant to be taken literally. It could easily just be Shepard sending a last farewell to us, the players :)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I first saw this trailer. Didn't think Shepard was literally talking to the crew of the ark but more like passing the baton of the main character role to the next person...

Maybe they did but got their arses handed to them on a plate by the species that had already evolved there.

Ultimately, I think it would be the same way that Prothean artifacts tend to do anything else: power of the plot, etc. With what the Protheans have achieved, I could believe they have a method to make more durable ships that would be able to be built in the same time scale as the Crucible.

Assuming this is true, then the Reapers should be in Andromeda and other galaxies as well

This is not a good thing for the setting.  Even magic needs rules on how it operates.

"power of the plot" is just a handwave.  And if the Protheans had ships of such durability, they why did they try to hide in underground bunks, rather than flee the galaxy themselves?  Or even hide in stasis in ships between the stars?

Yup. It's a glorious day.

And Bioware say they promoting equality they are liars sexist like everyone else.

That post was pretty much bait, I admit. Though I was expecting more of the above, tbh.

Chill out guys, our Shepards will remain our Shepards anyway. All 35 of them you've played over the years :D

Maybe they are, but their next scheduled visit is far off enough not to be plot relevant. Maybe that 50000 years in dark space is just them murderlating other galaxies. Maybe their broken logic circuits never thought all life meant life in other galaxies etc.

Yes the tech leap is probably going to suck in how much it breaks the lore. I agree with the rest as you are right even magic needs rules to follow to have a decent story. But the reapers being in andromeda can be hand waved easily without any lore breaks.

It sounds stupid. I'd rather not think about the timeline or past games at this point. /goes to detached gaming mode.

Good question, but in the same vein why didn't they get the Crucible built? Time + dire straits. What I'm getting at is that anything that can make the Crucible work as a plot device can equally apply to a Prothean (or some other precursor) ship. Maybe they did go to another galaxy and simply decided not to come back, or couldn't come back, or were wiped out somehow. Maybe by the time they discovered it, they didn't have the infrastructure to get it built.

Maybe a group did flee the galaxy. Javik did say no one knew what the others were doing since their empire at that time was smashed into pieces. He also said he heard stories of scientists constructing a great machine that could defeat the reapers. That same group may not know about any underground bunkers.

I think you need to read my post again, because I specifically said most of those Stasis pods would be unnecessary and could be removed to save space.  And if you remember the interior view of the ship from ME2, even with those millions of pods the vast majority of the ship's interior was composed of empty space.  There is a lot of room for materials and equipment, and this is just the main hold.

And the beauty of stasis pods is that they don't need to wake everyone up as soon as they arrive, they can awaken only as many as their resources can support, eventually waking them up over time as they build the settlement and it becomes self sustained.

Love the new trailer.  Love a bit of soundtrack from Sunshine and the opening scene of Contact.  I just hope Jennifer Hale will be back as one of the voice for our companion.

As is appropriate for an N7 video - this was more for the fans than the general audience, I think. I second the idea that this video was largely figurative in nature - Shep is not actually sending the crew of this ship off. Her message is for us.

I'm still of the opinion that this ship will be sent after the end of ME3 for reasons we don't yet know. It could be the other way around, but it seems like that ship is the size of the Citadel. I just don't buy it being made during the trilogy. You can ignore the endings regardless of timing because of the vast gulf of time and space (and a little hand-waving when it comes to the green ending).

Your still underestimating the logistical of such a project. They'll need resources materials etc to support colonies of various different species and their biological needs, this is just going to support the council races only but possibly several dozen species. There's also the fact the ship needs fuel to last for several centuries and power to keep the stasis pods alive and keep the ship running at the same time the more it requires the more space it'll take up. Then there the issue of making sure the crew doesn't get indoctrinated since collectors ships are bound to have reaper tech.

The ship will require to have a weapon defense system against any enemy attacks.

I think you're overthinking this. This isn't some totally grounded science fiction story in the same vein as 2001 or something. Power can last as long as the plot needs it to. Again, this has always been true in Mass Effect. The reapers, mass relays, the Citadel, prothean beacons etc. have lasted for tens of thousands of years. Heck, if Shepard derps up and decides to refuse, Liara's capsule will last through to the next cycle just fine. Whatever batteries or micro-reactors these things use, they seem to work for the long haul.

As for Collector ships and indoctrination, it was never quite clear if the Collectors themselves actually have technology that emits the reaper indoctrination signal. You could really just hand wave this to determine that they in fact do not.
